Bahagian sport permotoran dan kereta sport Toyota, Gazoo Racing, telah meningkatkan pelaburannya dalam teknologi enjin pembakaran dalaman (ICE), menunjukkan komitmen mereka untuk memanfaatkan sepenuhnya potensi enjin pembakaran dalaman. Presiden GR, Tomoya Takahashi, menegaskan pendirian bahagian tersebut dengan menyatakan bahawa kenderaan ICE masih mempunyai tempat walaupun usaha yang dilakukan untuk mengurangkan pelepasan karbon. “Musuh kita adalah karbon, bukan enjin pembakaran dalaman,” kata Takahashi, merangkum pandangan Toyota mengenai kenderaan ICE.

Walaupun populariti kenderaan elektrik (EV) semakin meningkat, Toyota tidak mempunyai rancangan segera untuk memperkenalkan EV prestasi di bawah jenama GR. Ini menimbulkan persoalan tentang masa depan kereta konsep FT-Se, yang menawarkan prestasi yang mengagumkan tetapi belum jelas bagaimana pengeluarannya akan dilakukan.

Toyota’s motorsport and sports car division, Gazoo Racing, is doubling down on its investment in internal combustion engine (ICE) technology, reaffirming its commitment to maximising the potential of combustion engines. GR President Tomoya Takahashi emphasised the division’s stance, asserting that ICE vehicles can coexist with efforts to reduce carbon emissions. “The enemy is carbon, not internal combustion engines,” Takahashi remarked, encapsulating Toyota’s perspective on ICE vehicles.

Despite the growing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), Toyota has no immediate plans to introduce a performance EV under the GR brand. This decision raises questions about the fate of the FT-Se concept car, which boasted impressive performance figures but remains without a clear production path.

Toyota telah mendedahkan dua versi berprestasi tinggi yang unik untuk GR Yaris baru, yang dikembangkan bekerjasama dengan juara pemandu Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) Sébastien Ogier dan Kalle Rovanperä. Model eksklusif ini membuat penampilan pertama mereka pada hari pertama Rallye-Monte Carlo, menandakan permulaan Kejuaraan Rali Dunia FIA 2024 (WRC).

Edisi Ogier

Terinspirasi oleh versi konsep yang dipamerkan di Tokyo Auto Salon 2023, edisi istimewa ini mencerminkan sumbangan peribadi pemandu juara yang turut serta dalam proses pembangunan. Inisiatif ini berakar dari keinginan Pengerusi Toyota Motor Corporation dan Pemandu Utama Akio Toyoda untuk mengungkapkan rasa terima kasih kepada pemandu yang memainkan peranan penting dalam menyempurnakan dan mengembangkan kereta Toyota melalui perlumbaan rali.

Kedua-dua edisi ini mempunyai tetapan semula, menggantikan mod “Gravel” dan “Track” yang terdapat dalam GR Yaris standard, untuk selaras dengan keutamaan peribadi setiap pemandu dalam pengendalian dan prestasi. Selain itu, setiap model mempunyai ciri-ciri reka bentuk luar dan dalaman yang unik.

Dikuasakan oleh iterasi terkini enjin tiga silinder turbo 1.6 liter GR Yaris, menghasilkan 280hp dan 390Nm tork, dipadankan dengan transmisi manual pintar enam kelajuan (6iMT), kedua-dua edisi eksklusif ini menjanjikan pengalaman pemanduan yang mendebarkan.

Edisi Ogier:

Edisi Ogier memperkenalkan dua mod kawalan AWD baru: Morizo dan Seb. Mod Morizo, yang dikembangkan oleh Akio Toyoda sendiri, memberi tumpuan pada penyampaian waktu lumba yang konsisten, manakala mod Seb, yang dikembangkan oleh Sébastien Ogier, menekankan pengalaman pemanduan yang bersambung dengan pengagihan tork untuk mengawal drift. Badan kereta mempunyai cat Matt Stealth Grey khas, butiran bendera kebangsaan Perancis, pelekat peringatan WRC, dan rim aloi BBS yang khas. Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) has revealed the evolved version of its iconic GR Yaris, reinforcing its commitment to the continuous improvement of motorsports-bred cars. The GR Yaris, symbolic of TGR’s dedication to excellence, has undergone rigorous testing and competition evolution since its launch in September 2020.

Central to this evolution is the introduction of a newly developed 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission. This transmission, honed through motorsports testing and diverse road conditions, boasts optimised software for sporty driving, achieving world-class gear-shifting speeds and close-ratio gears for optimal power band utilisation. The RZ “High performance” trim is equipped with a Torsen LSD for enhanced driving force control.

The engine performance sees an increase in output from 272PS to 304PS and torque from 370Nm to 400Nm.

In terms of cockpit design, the control panel and display have been tilted 15 degrees towards the driver for improved visibility and operability. The driving posture has been enhanced, forward visibility expanded, and the shift lever position optimised. A 12.3-inch full-colour TFT gauge display, inspired by professional race drivers, offers crucial vehicle information.

The exterior design incorporates motorsports input with features like an upgraded lower grille, larger side lower grilles for improved cooling, and a rear lower garnish with an opening to reduce aerodynamic drag.

Chassis and body reinforcements include an increased number of bolts fastening the body to shock absorbers and additional spot welding points, resulting in improved handling stability. A “Cooling Package” enhances cooling performance with options like a sub-radiator, cool air intake, and intercooler sprayer.

The GR Yaris also introduces a standard drive mode selection function for both sporty and everyday driving. The optional vertical parking brake, influenced by motorsports, enhances operational efficiency in competitions. TGR plans to offer an upgrade service for the GRMN Yaris, incorporating lessons from the evolved GR Yaris and motorsports participation.

The GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Sébastien Ogier Edition” and GR Yaris RZ “High performance・Kalle Rovanperä Edition” concept models are set for sales launch, to be unveiled at Rallye Monte Carlo, marking the first round of the FIA World Rally Championship. TGR’s commitment to making ever-better motorsports-bred cars remains an ongoing pursuit, ensuring the GR Yaris continues to evolve through competition and driver feedback.

Toyota Gazoo Racing memberikan lebih sokongan kepada enjin hidrogen, walaupun lebih ramai orang beralih kepada kereta elektrik. Ketua Gazoo Racing, Masahito Watanabe, percaya enjin hidrogen boleh berfungsi dengan baik daripada kereta elektrik. Tetapi terdapat satu masalah – stesen untuk mengisi hidrogen masih kurang.

Bagi menyelesaikan ini, Gazoo Racing sedang merungkai Hydrogen Factory Europe, sebahagian daripada Toyota Motor Europe, untuk mempercepatkan pembangunan teknologi hidrogen dan menyelesaikan masalah pengisian semula.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Festival has undoubtedly cemented its reputation as the premiere one make race series in Malaysia. Over six seasons, TGR has provided fans with thrilling wheel to wheel racing where professionals, celebrities as well as amateur drivers compete to be crowned champion of the series at the end of the season.

The series requires teams to compete in a race spec Toyota Vios with all cars having the same state of tune. To level the playing field, drivers who are particularly quick are required to have weight ballasts that slow down their cars.

In the six seasons of racing, the Toyota Vios has been the mainstay of the series. Teams fork out about RM100,000 to buy a race prepared Toyota Vios and this also gives the access to two seasons of racing.

As season six draws to a close, UMW Toyota Motors took the opportunity to officially unveil next season’s race car.

Based on the latest generation Toyota Vios, the new race car shares the same concept as the old – with a stripped out interior and a six-point roll cage that not only offers safety for the driver but also adds stiffness to the car that gives it more agile handling.

Besides the roll cage, the new Vios also sports a new platform that adds further rigidity. This combined with new aerodynamic enhancements make the Vios more planted in corners, improves responsiveness and also provides faster lap times as compared to the previous generation race car.

The new Vios challenger is still powered by the same 1.5-litre engine producing 106PS and 138Nm of torque. The power figures are the same as the street car but the biggest difference is the transmission. While the road going model uses a CVT gearbox, the race car sends power to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Vios also includes a new race exhaust manifold, exhaust mid-section and muffler, a limited slip differential and race tuned suspension.

The Toyota Gazoo Racing team is upping the ante on the already high-performing GR Corolla for 2024. They’re bringing back the sought-after Circuit Edition for another year, offering it in a striking Blue Flame paint colour. Additionally, they’re introducing a new GR Corolla Premium Grade, elevating the model’s features with high-performance components as standard for enthusiasts.

The GR Corolla has received an overwhelming response, capturing a passion for driving. The new Premium Grade maintains the focus on the driving experience. It comes with dual LSD (Limited Slip Differential) to maximise traction and torque distribution during cornering. Brake cooling ducts come standard, and the interior receives an upgrade with heated seats, a heated steering wheel, front/rear parking sensors, JBL Premium Audio, and a wireless cell phone charger.

With the top two fastest qualifying speeds and victories in Race 1 at the Sepang International Circuit, Laser Motor Racing dominated the first day of the GR Vios Sprint Cup weekend.

Teammates Eddie Lew and Amer Harris came in second, while Putera Adam and Jwan Hii took the lead with the fastest time of 2 minutes, 52.302 seconds. Hayden Haikal and Timothy Yeo of Axle Sports completed the top three positions.

The GR Vios Sprint Cup has two 1-hour races on Saturday and Sunday, 2-driver teams, a required pit stop, and a driver switch. Toyota’s presence in motor racing has expanded thanks to this move, which has also given Toyota dealers and privateers the chance to compete in saloon car racing at lower costs and, more importantly, the chance to succeed as a racing team and actively take part in the development of young talent.

Toyota has dominated the Le Mans competition, winning 5 straight races between 2018 and 2022. And for 2023 the manufacturer has unveiled a brand-new hydrogen-powered concept before the start of this year’s 24-hour race that was created “with future competition in its sights.”

The prototype was introduced at a press conference held by Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), the organisation behind the Le Mans 24 Hours. It was motivated by the ACO’s recent declaration that it will permit hydrogen-engine vehicles to participate in a category separate from fuel-cell electric vehicles.
