BMW Malaysia Introduces The New M2 – 460hp, RM573,040!

In conjunction with the 2023 M4NTAP Festival, BMW Malaysia has unveiled the latest iteration of the compact high-performance coupé from BMW M, the new M2. It made its global debut back in 2022, replacing the F87 model.

The new M2, codenamed G87, features a new unframed kidney grille design with horizontal slats complemented by large, nearly square-shaped air intakes, that denote the high cooling requirements of the engine and brake system.

Along with it, the high-performance coupé has front wings made of aluminium to help decrease weight and adaptive LED headlights with High-beam Assistant. A unique bonnet with a noticeable power dome completes the front look.

The traditional three-box form of the M2 is highlighted by enlarged side skirts and flared wheel arches, and it features broad surfaces and rectangular shapes.

While the new BMW M2 has blue brake callipers and staggered double-spoke style M light alloy wheels in 930 M bicolour that are 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, the M2, with a Pro Package, comes exclusively with the M Compound Brake in Red High-Gloss and staggered double-spoke style M light alloy wheels in 930 M black that are also 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.

Along with the signature M twin tailpipes and rear diffuser, it also has a spoiler lip to improve downforce aerodynamically. The M High-gloss Shadowline is offered as standard for it, with expanded contents available only for the M2 with Pro Package. The M Carbon Roof and M Lights Shadowline are additional distinctive features for it with Pro Package.

The new M2 has dimensions of 4,580 mm in length, 1,877 mm in width, and 1,403 mm in height, with a 2,747 mm wheelbase. The current model is wider, 33 mm wider, and has a 54 mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor despite being 11 mm shorter in height. The new M2’s 390 litre cargo space is substantial by coupé standards and can be expanded even more with the 40/20/40-split folding rear seat.

The New BMW M2’s cockpit now benefits from the intuitive BMW Curved Display with M-specific displays, which houses the most recent version of the BMW M iDrive. In order to improve information delivery and touchscreen functionality, the Information Display and the Control Display have been combined into a single display unit with the BMW Curved Display.

The 12.3-inch completely digital instrument display and the 14.9-inch Control Display make up this innovative display combo. It features the most recent BMW Operating System 8 and a programmable widget

Specifically designed side bolsters are standard on the new BMW M2’s completely electrified M Sport seats that feature an illuminated M logo on the front seat headrests.

The M Anthracite headliner, Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite M Interior Trim, the eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox, the setup and M Mode buttons for the centre console, the Head-Up Display with M-specific design and M font colours, which is available for the first time in the BMW M2, are additional standard additions. The M Seat Belts and ‘Carbon Fibre’ M Interior Trim are exclusive to the new BMW M2 with Pro Package.

In addition to that, ambient lighting, three-zone automatic air conditioning, a storage compartment package, an interior and exterior mirror package, and an interior rearview mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function are all included as standard features.

The BMW M2’s two uniquely moulded back seats are now matched with substantially more legroom than the previous model thanks to an extended wheelbase.

Regarding in-car entertainment, the M2 and M2 Pro both include Harman Kardon surround sound systems as standard equipment. It comes with a HiFi loudspeaker system and also has the Comfort Access System for enhanced convenience.

The new BMW M2’s high-rpm three-litre M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder in-line engine serves as the powertrain of the car. Thanks to important improvements including a redesigned lightweight crankshaft, an oil supply/cooling system developed for the racetrack, and high-pressure injection at 350 pressures, it produces 460hp and 550Nm of torque.

With a peak speed of 250 km/h and an eight-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox, the engine can accelerate the vehicle from a full stop to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. Additionally, owners have the option to purchase the M Driver’s Package, which can be installed at any approved BMW dealership in the country and raises the M2’s peak speed to 285 km/h.

Its double-joint spring strut front axle and wishbone are now built of aluminium, resulting in a wider track and a lighter structure. Compared to its predecessor, the five-link rear suspension has also seen substantial improvements.

The six-piston fixed-calliper brakes up front, the Adaptive M Suspension, and the M Drive Professional system are further standard features for the new M2.
