Mini Cooper Bulldog Racing Edition: The Ultimate Licence To Race

Mini is always known to create special/limited editions of its models. This time, Mini is commemorating the success of the Bulldog Racing team, a private racing team situated in Nürburg, Germany. The team secured a second-place finish in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring event for this year. Their achievement was in the category for production-based cars with an engine displacement ranging from 1,600 to 2,000cc and equipped with a turbocharger.

Dubbed the “Bulldog Racing Edition,” this fresh variant is built upon the foundation of the John Cooper Works iteration of the three-door Mini hatch. It represents a considerably enhanced version of the standard model, tailored for improved track performance, and draws inspiration from the two race cars employed by the Bulldog Racing team at the iconic track.

The enhancements start with an adaptable KW V3 suspension that takes the place of the factory suspension. This upgraded suspension has been meticulously fine-tuned at the Nürburgring to enhance the cars handling capabilities.

Although the engine remains unaltered, housing the same 2.0-litre turbocharged powertrain that delivers 231hp and 318Nm of torque, modifications have been made to the exhaust system, courtesy of Remus. While the power output from the four-cylinder engine remains unchanged, the car now boasts a new exhaust system that contributes to its distinctive performance.

The power generated by the engine is still directed to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. However, the original wheels have been replaced with 17-inch OZ HyperGT rims, which come equipped with Pirelli P Zero tyres sized 205/45 R17.

To complement the performance enhancements, there are corresponding visual modifications. Notably, the rear seats in the hatchback have been removed, replaced by a strut adorned with mesh and carpet. This weight-saving measure contributes to the cars improved performance capabilities. Furthermore, an individually numbered plaque is positioned beneath the handbrake lever, aligning with the exterior badges that bear the unique name of the special edition model.

The design alterations extend to a Bulldog Racing roof decor foil, serving as the final touch to differentiate this edition from the standard John Cooper Works model.

Overseas, the car is available for purchase from a Mini dealership. Alternatively, you have the option to bring your existing Mini to Bulldog Racing and request a personalised upgrade based on your preferences. If you’re not looking for a complete package, you also have the choice to install specific components that align with your desires. This customisation option is accessible for both new and older Mini models from 2014 onwards.
