In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original AE86, Toyota unveiled a special edition of the GR86 for the 2024 model year in Japan. This exclusive variant, limited to 200 units, is based on the locally offered RZ trim and offers a choice of either manual or automatic transmission. It pays tribute to Initial D aesthetics and enthusiasts can opt for a white or red exterior adorned with black racing stripes.

The 40th Anniversary Edition of the GR86 boasts 18-inch wheels finished in a sleek dark gray metallic hue, wrapped in 215/40 R18 tyres. The exterior design is further enhanced with black finishes on the side mirror caps and trunk lid spoiler, creating a striking contrast.

Stepping inside, a prominent black and red theme dominates the interior, accompanied by a “Since 1983 40th” logo on the door cards that complements the exterior decal.

The Japanese version of the 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, which had its North American premiere in July, made its debut and has a new name.

Introducing the STI Sport, a brand-new trim level with nearly identical features to its American counterpart available in Japan. It has 18-inch black metallic wheels covered in 215/40 R18 high-performance tyres, and 17-inch Brembo brakes with front and rear vented discs.

Proton has set its sights on international market growth as a fundamental part of its long-term strategy. In 2022, the company witnessed a significant surge in volume, reaching 5,406 units and marking an impressive 79% increase compared to the previous year. Encouraged by this growth, Proton aimed to maintain a similar upward trajectory in 2023.

However, the year presented challenges due to external factors impacting global economies, affecting the company’s sales potential in several major export markets. Despite these obstacles, Proton has remained resolute in its ambition to expand its market reach beyond Malaysia. The company has been actively evaluating and exploring different countries for their market potential, while also steadily introducing products to existing markets.

Hennessey has done it again by initiating the H1000 package upgrades for Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing models, significantly boosting their power and transforming them into high-performance beasts.

The stock CT5-V Blackwing comes with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 668hp and 893Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. With either transmission, the vehicle can accelerate to 100km/h in approximately 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 330km/h.

During the launch of the new facelifted Honda City, Honda Malaysia CEO Mr. Hironobu Yoshimura delivered the heart-wrenching news that the Honda Accord would no longer be available for sale in Malaysia. This announcement left many enthusiasts and customers heartbroken, marking the end of an era for the Honda Accord in the Malaysian market.

So for Malaysians, the 10th-generation Honda Accord, currently available in Malaysia, represents the final model that will be accessible in the country. However, in November 2022, the 11th-generation Honda Accord made its North American debut before going on sale in China. It hasn’t, however, been made available in its native Japan until recently.

Honda has revealed the details and availability of the Accord’s JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) hybrid-only model, which is scheduled to hit dealerships in the first quarter of 2024.

The UK’s ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel-powered cars, originally set for 2030, has been pushed back to 2035 by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. This move aims to reset the UK’s approach to meeting net-zero targets and gain more consumer support. However, it has caused concern and dismay within the automotive industry, which had been investing heavily to meet the earlier 2030 target.

Sunak criticised the lack of debate and scrutiny surrounding net-zero policies and stressed the importance of informing the public about the challenges and sacrifices involved in achieving these goals. He emphasised that consumers should have the choice to transition to electric vehicles (EVs) rather than being forced by government mandates.

Lexus is set to unveil a new concept car at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, offering a preview of their first next-generation Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) expected to start production in 2026. While specific details about the concept weren’t disclosed, it’s anticipated to align with the teaser sketch previously released by Toyota under the Lexus brand.

Lexus is committed to a groundbreaking approach for their next-gen BEV, revolutionising the car body’s modular structure, altering production methods, and completely overhauling the software platform. The new U8 Premium Edition from BYD’s Yangwang division is making its mark in the Chinese market, showcasing a luxurious SUV with a body-on-frame design.

Drawing inspiration from the standard U8, this edition embraces an exterior reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, highlighted by 20- or 22-inch wheels, a ‘floating’ roof, flush-mounted door handles, and an octagonal spare tire cover.

Inside, it boasts advanced technology, including 23.6-inch displays for both the driver and front passenger. The cabin is also equipped with a prominent 12.8-inch infotainment system in a portrait orientation. Cerulean Blue, originally associated with the hypercar P1, harkens back to one of McLaren’s most iconic and groundbreaking models.
