Porsche has entered into a groundbreaking agreement with the Swedish energy start-up, H2 Green Steel, to procure CO₂-reduced steel. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the environmental sustainability of Porsche models by incorporating low-emission steel in their production. H2 Green Steel was founded in 2020 with the ambition to accelerate the decarbonisation of the steel industry, using green hydrogen.

H2 Green Steel is set to revolutionise steel production by utilising renewable energy sources in Boden, Sweden, starting at the end of 2025. By 2026, Porsche, along with its primary suppliers of production materials, will receive a supply of low-emission steel from H2 Green Steel. This innovative steel will boast one of the smallest carbon footprints in the market. H2 Green Steel’s production process relies on hydrogen and electricity sourced from renewable energy, making it nearly CO₂-free.

According to H2 Green Steel, this results in a staggering 95% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared to conventional steel production with coking coal. Porsche plans to incorporate up to 317,514,66kg of this low-emission steel per year into the series production of their vehicles, significantly reducing their environmental impact. To put it into perspective, in 2022, Porsche used 199,580,643kg of steel in its vehicles.

In recent years, Porsche has continuously reduced the proportion of steel in their vehicles, increasingly opting for lightweight construction materials like aluminium. Nevertheless, steel remains a critical component in sports car manufacturing due to its exceptional mechanical properties. Energy, processes, and materials account for a significant share of CO₂ emissions in the supply chain. That is why Porsche wants to increase the use of recycled materials and green electricity in the production processes of direct suppliers as part of our decarbonisation efforts. Porsche’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions throughout its supply chain highlights its dedication to environmental sustainability and innovation in the automotive industry.

In an impressive achievement, the Mercedes-Benz Production Plant in Pekan, as part of the global Mercedes-Benz production network, has reached a significant milestone by producing its 100,000th Mercedes-Benz passenger car. This accomplishment reflects Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to manufacturing excellence and innovation in the luxury automotive industry.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has been steadfast in its commitment to bolstering the local economy, having invested over RM500 million to date in its Pekan plant. A major achievement earlier this year was the successful commencement of local assembly for the EQS 500 4MATIC. This significant step forward accelerates Mercedes-Benz’s pursuit of electric mobility and sets the stage for the future of automotive manufacturing in Malaysia. In doing so, the company is consistently advancing the Mercedes-Benz strategy of transitioning towards an ‘electric-only’ future.

With a global vision of an all-electric future, Mercedes-Benz Cars is preparing to go all-electric by the end of this decade, wherever market conditions permit.

Sustainability is at the heart of Mercedes-Benz’s business strategy, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Under the “Ambition 2039” initiative, the company has set a challenging target to make its fleet of new vehicles net carbon-neutral over the entire lifecycle of the vehicles by the year 2039.

Mercedes-Benz, in collaboration with its contract manufacturing partner, HICOM Automotive, is actively pursuing a Green Production Target for its production plant. This commitment involves adopting best practices to reduce energy consumption, minimize water usage, and reduce waste while also increasing the share of renewable energy in its production processes. The company aspires to elevate its reliance on renewable energy from the current 30% to an impressive 85% by the end of this decade.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and electrification reaffirms its position as a pioneer in the luxury automotive industry, shaping the future of mobility in Malaysia and beyond.

The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (often referred to as Jokowi), has pointed out that Indonesia’s global competitiveness remains significantly lacking, given that the extent of the national toll road network only stretches to 2,800km.

During his tenure, Jokowi noted that a grand total of 2,040km of toll roads have been constructed, representing a substantial increase from the previous 780km.

This signifies that Indonesia possesses just 2,800km of toll roads. In contrast, China boasts a staggering 280,000km.

According to the nation’s leader, the length of Indonesia’s toll road network underscores a considerable competitiveness gap when compared to China.

For Sumatra Island, the government had laid out plans for constructing the Trans Sumatra Motorway (JTTS), which encompasses 2,800km in total, with 1,800km designated as the island’s primary backbone, as highlighted by Jokowi.

Jokowi cited insights from community and religious leaders in South Sumatra, who pointed out that the journey from Palembang to Lampung previously consumed 10-12 hours.

Richard Mille and Ferrari have joined forces to create a remarkable ultra-thin watch – the RM UP-01 Ferrari. This watch not only embodies a blend of their best expertise but also aligns with the values shared by both iconic brands.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari combines elegant design with sporting mechanisms, defying contemporary trends to establish new aesthetic codes. The watch is a testament to their partnership, and its technical prowess is particularly impressive.

At a mere 1.75 millimetres thick, the RM UP-01 Ferrari is an impressive technological feat, showcasing a fresh approach to watch mechanics where technicality governs aesthetics. Over six thousand hours of development and laboratory testing went into its creation, resulting in a timepiece that breaks traditional conventions.

To create this ultra-flat watch, a traditional movement with superimposed gears and hands was not an option. Instead, a close relationship between the movement and case was established to ensure both delivered the required rigidity. The baseplate and bridges are crafted from grade 5 titanium, a biocompatible, highly corrosion-resistant, and rigid alloy. These qualities make it a common material in industries like aerospace, aeronautics, and automotive.

The RM UP-01 Ultraflat features a new escapement and balance wheel in grade 5 titanium that significantly reduces the calibre’s thickness while maintaining security. This patented ultra-flat escapement does away with traditional dart and safety roller components, streamlining the design and reducing its height.

The two crowns integrated into the bezel offer winding (W) and hand-setting (H) functions, while two black ceramic inserts protect the bezel and ensure water resistance.

The RM UP-01 Ferrari is a limited edition with only 150 pieces available, each priced at $1.88 million.

When travelling to foreign countries, the most common mode of transportation is often e-hailing or taxi services. Car rental is another option, but it comes with its own set of considerations. Unfortunately, taxi drivers sometimes exploit tourists, hiking up fares significantly, especially when the passengers are foreigners.

As reported by Mothership, a group of foreigners recently fell victim to such a scam in Singapore, where they were charged a staggering $100 SGD for a mere 3-kilometre journey, which took approximately seven to ten minutes. The incident was captured on video, and the conversation with the taxi driver was later uploaded to YouTube.

Filmed on September 18 and 19, 2023, at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, the footage was produced for the Carl Runefelt Vlogs channel and showcased the Token 2049 cryptocurrency conference. The vehicle that transported the passengers was parked in the designated taxi area and displayed a “Taxi” sign above it.

The group, consisting of five individuals, including a videographer, had been trying to secure a private rental car or hail a cab. The video highlighted their interaction with the taxi driver, which escalated to an astonishing fare quote when the video reached the nine-minute mark, the time they were supposed to reach Park Royal Collection Pickering.

The taxi driver, with a censored face, cited the congestion in the area and declared the ride would cost a hefty S$100.
