Honda Malaysia has just officially launched the all-new Honda CR-V. We test-drove the new CR-V in Thailand last month and we loved it!

The interior is spacious and provides excellent comfort. To enhance the comfort level, it comes with Honda’s body stabilising seats. This is the first CR-V to use Honda’s body stabilising seat for front passengers.

The enhanced structure in the back of the seat increases lumbar and pelvic support to create a body-stabilising effect. This helps to prevent fatigue, particularly in the hip and waist area of occupants on longer journeys.

Additionally, the new structure makes it easier to maintain a comfortable and stable driving posture, even when cornering and on uneven road surfaces.

The next-generation body stabilising seat, which Honda developed to use for its high-end sedan models, was first available on the fourth-generation Jazz that was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show back in 2019.

SUVs can be seen in every segment of the car market nowadays and now, Honda has even developed a SUV racing car with a hybrid powertrain. While SUVs have been used in competition before, this particular one is a special one-off project vehicle which is a sneak preview of the Honda’s technology to come.

Developed by Honda Performance Development (HPD), the racing arm of Honda’s North American subsidiary, the CR-V Hybrid Racer will make its debut at the 2023 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. In 2024, hybrid power units will officially debut in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, bringing electrification to the event.

Honda Malaysia’s popular SUV, the Honda CR-V, is now available with two new colour options. The colours Ignite Red Metallic and Meteoroid Gray Metallic colour. The two colours replace the Passion Red Pearl and Modern Steel Metallic choices.

The total number of exterior colour choices therefore remains at six, the other four being Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl and Dark Olive Metallic.

2022 Honda CR-V

Ignite Red Metallic and Meteoroid Gray Metallic are not new to the Honda range in Malaysia as they are already offered for the City, City Hatchback, Civic, BR-V and latest HR-V. The Accord is also available with the Meteoroid Gray Metallic colour.

According to Honda Malaysia’s Managing Director and CEO, Hironobu Yoshimura, both colours have been popular. The Ignite Red Metallic colour was chosen by an average of 18% of buyers of each of the five models, while the Meteoroid Gray Metallic colour was the choice of 24% on average.

The new HR-V (above) and Accord (below) are also available in Meteoroid Gray Metallic.

“With the CR-V as the latest model to receive both colour options, we have completed the expansion of the Ignite Red Metallic and Meteoroid Gray Metallic colours into the full Honda line-up. We are confident that both new colours will further accentuate the appearance of the CR-V for customers who seek an SUV with a bolder and modern exterior,” said Mr. Yoshimura.

Since its launch in 2017, the 5th Generation CR-V has recorded an outstanding sales record with more than 63,000 units sold. Of this total volume, more than 27,000 units were of the facelifted model which was launched in November 2020. This year, the CR-V has contributed 12% to the brand’s total sales volume from January to July 2022.

The CR-V is powered by a proven 1.5-litre VTEC turbocharged engine which produces 193 ps/243 Nm. The power goes to the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the version. Besides the comprehensive list of standard safety features, the CR-V is equipped with Honda SENSING, a suite of 8 active safety systems that help the driver avoid accidents or reduce the effects of an accident.

The CR-V is available in 4 versions – 2.0 2WD, 1.5TC-P 2WD, Black Edition and 1.5TC- 4WD, with prices ranging from RM146,900 to RM171,400 (excluding insurance, Peninsular Malaysia registration).

Honda Malaysia has announced an immediate increase in the prices of three of its models by around 5% to 9% (depending on model and variant). The revisions apply to vehicles sold in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak but apparently not the duty-free areas of Langkawi and Labuan.

There will be many who question why there is this increase when there was earlier news about ‘no increases in locally-assembled completely knocked-down (CKD) models’ during 2020. In fact, we mentioned this possibility because the ‘no increase’ only applied to the revised Open Market Value (OMV) calculation. If there is any vehicle affected by this specific issue, there will be 100% exemption on the increase incurred until December 31, 2020, the Finance Ministry assured.

Honda Malaysia has clarified that the prices have been raised due to the review to the customized incentives for CKD models. This is a different matter and it is likely that the company would have looked for ways to absorb the increases but found them to be too much and has to revise the prices.

The customized incentives are provided for carmakers that make investments to assemble some of their models locally. These incentives are very important in order to offset the production cost and high taxes so that the cars can have lower retail prices. Honda Malaysia has not given details of how the customized incentives have changed to affect their retail prices. It could be that some incentives have been withdrawn or altered, we won’t know because the government is not sufficiently transparent about the incentives it gives to each company. It is never clear if a similar basis (not criteria) is used for determining incentives. Potential investors are usually asked to come for private meetings to discuss incentives, rather than submit proposals for their investments based on an openly known set of incentives available. MITI has, however, included the criteria for qualifying for incentives in the latest NAP (shown below).

Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd (HMSB) has announced a recall of 7,050 units of its CR-V model to replace the gear push knob button. The recall affects only the 2018 model year and is being carried out as a precautionary measure. All other current selling models are not affected.

The precautionary measure is to address the possibility of customers facing difficulty with the CR-V’s automatic transmission lever when shifting from PARK position to other gear positions.

Apologising for the inconvenience caused to customers, HMSB says the replacement of the part is free of charge and all related costs will be borne by the company.

Only the 2018 model year units are affected.

All affected customers will be informed via notification letters, which will include details of the product update. Customers who receive the letter are advised to send their vehicles to the nearest authorised Honda dealers for inspection. The replacement stock will be available in stages.

In the event that you do not receive a notification letter, you can obtain clarification by calling the Honda Toll Free number at 1-800-88-2020 or visit www.honda.com.my.

Honda Malaysia has announced that sales figures from January to April of this year have been good and has put the automaker on track to achieve its sales target of 100,000 vehicles. This will it to keep the top spot among non-nationl manufacturers based on total industry volume (TIV) this year.

As of now, Honda has achieved 35% of its sales target with 34,500 vehicles sold at the end of April. Compared to last year, sales has risen by 40% or 9,800 more vehicles were sold. Attributing to that number is the new BR-V that racked up 7,800 orders and the new City which has received 7,200 bookings since its launch in March.

Demand for the Civic has risen too with 840 vehicles sold per month. Prior to the introduction of the 10th gen car, the Civic nameplate was only receiving 50 to 200 orders, which says a lot of the new car’s appeal.

And to ensure that the Japanese automaker keeps up with demand especially with the upcoming festive season, Honda’s two production lines will be adjusted so that waiting periods do not exceed 2 months and that with the increased production, quality control isn’t effected either.

Besides these sales figures, Honda Malaysia also announced new prices for the HR-V and CR-V 2.0 2WD due to re-classification under the new customs tariff code. Pricing for the HR-V 1.8L S is now RM101,100, E is RM110,700 and the V variant is RM121,000. The price of the two-wheel-drive CR-V has been adjusted to RM141,500.

As a means to allure more potential buyers to the brand, Honda will be organizing two campaigns this month. The ‘Nikmati Musim Bonus’ will take place from 1st May 2017 to 31st May 2017. During this period, Honda is offering customers 2 years of free vehicle servicing (parts & labour) or cash options. The second campaign, is a nationwide showroom event which will be conducted in conjunction with Mother’s Day on 13th May 2017.

The event will take place from 10am to 4pm and will feature a whole host of activities for the appreciation of mothers, which include roses and Mother’s Day cards made by their own children in the Honda showroom. Other activities include test drive gifts and lucky draws, which should prove to be fun and enjoyable for the whole family.
