The Porsche 911 is an all-time favourite amongst car enthusiasts. The looks that have evolved yet
stayed true to its roots and the fact that Porsche has retained the engine aft of the rear axle
despite every law of physics saying it shouldn’t work has kept enthusiasts intrigued and entertained.

The 911 simply could not get any better, or could it?

Enter Theon design, the British company whose self proclaimed purpose is to create the ultimate air-cooled Porsche 911.

After years of immaculate restorations and recreating classic Porsches up to and beyond their original condition, Theon has outdone itself with the introduction of the ITA001. It’s the first-ever Italian version of the Porsche 911 (964) and, was created for an Italian discerning collector from Milan.

The Cayenne, Porsche’s first SUV, is still in its third generation since being launched in 2017. During the past 5 years, there have been improvements in areas related to the powertrain, chassis, design, equipment and connectivity. This is usual for any carmaker as feedback from real-world usage by owners is received at the factory and measures are taken to address issues, while also improving the product in overall terms.

Occasionally, there are numerous improvements made with many new technologies and it is necessary not just to calibrate or tune many systems but also test them for durability and reliability. Prototypes are now undergoing rigorous testing – called ‘complete vehicle testing’ at Porsche – to ensure the operational stability and functionality of all components and systems as they interact – in situations that the customer experiences and far beyond.

Rear spoilers, large and small, mounted at the back of cars has been a common sight for decades. While some spoilers or ‘wings’ are more for looks than offering any real benefit, those that are installed as original equipment have usually been carefully shaped to contribute to aerodynamic efficiency and performance at high speeds.

Such aerodynamic aids were already used in racing cars but Porsche was the first company to install a rear spoiler on a production model – the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972. Back then, ‘spoiler’ may have been relatively unknown so the marketing people at the sportscar company came up with a nickname that was perhaps a bit funny but it stuck: ducktail. It was so called because its shape somewhat resembled the tail of a duck although ‘Entenburzel’ was how the Germans referred to it in their language.

When a huge asteroid smashed into our planet millions of years ago, it caused such great climate change that life on earth almost ended, particularly the dinosaurs. Climate change is also the reason why there is this urgency to switch to electric power for cars and stop using internal combustion (IC) engines which generate carbon dioxide (CO2), the culprit in global warming.

Unlike the death of the dinosaurs, the IC engines cannot just ‘die’ so fast, much as environmentalists would like them to. There are still more than 1.3 billion vehicles with IC engines on the planet, providing mobility to millions who won’t or can’t easily switch to electric vehicles (EVs). And all these vehicles require fuel to run… coincidentally derived from those dinosaurs which died. The combustion process that generates power for an engine also sends out CO2, so the solution has been to stop that process which should reduce the gas levels.

The new Porsche 911 Dakar will bring back memories of the 953 that entered and won the Paris – Dakar Rally in 1984. That impressive achievement also saw the birth of all-wheel drive in the 911, not for off-road adventures but for even better on-road performance.

Now Porsche pays tribute to that Dakar winner with a limited edition 911 Dakar which will make its global debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show soon. Limited to only 2,500 units, the 911 Dakar will also be available with an optional Rallye Design Package, reminiscent of that iconic winning car.
