Volkswagen Expands All-Wheel Drive Lineup with Powerful TSI Engines

Volkswagen is enhancing the driving range of its best-selling models—the Tiguan, Passat, and the newly introduced Tayron—by equipping them with the most powerful turbocharged petrol engines (TSI) in combination with 4MOTION all-wheel drive as standard. This upgrade enhances towing capacity, stability, and performance across various driving conditions.

The Tiguan and Tayron SUVs are now available in 2.0 TSI 4MOTION variants, offering two output levels: 204PS and 265 PS. The Passat 2.0 TSI 4MOTION is exclusively available with the higher 265PS powertrain. These models boast towing capacities of up to 2,200 kg for the Passat and Tiguan, while the Tayron can tow up to 2,500 kg with the appropriate equipment. Sales have already commenced in select European markets, with these petrol-powered variants complementing the existing 193PS TDI diesel options.

The integration of 4MOTION all-wheel drive provides improved traction and stability in various weather and road conditions. The system utilises a 4MOTION clutch to transmit power to the rear axle when additional grip is required. Under normal driving conditions, the vehicle operates in front-wheel drive mode to optimize fuel efficiency. Drivers can also manually engage all-wheel drive to enhance traction on snowy or challenging terrains.

Volkswagen Bids Farewell to Manual Golf GTI and Golf R

Volkswagen’s refreshed 2025 Golf lineup, known as the Mk8.5, introduced updated styling and enhanced interiors but marked a bittersweet moment for U.S. enthusiasts as the iconic manual transmission was retired for the Golf GTI and Golf R. This decision closes a significant chapter in the history of these beloved hot hatches, despite a surge in popularity for manual-equipped models in their final year.

In 2024, enthusiasts rallied to support the manual variants, with Volkswagen reporting substantial year-over-year sales increases of 48.6% for the GTI and 29.6% for the Golf R. Of these, 41% of GTIs and an impressive 52% of Golf Rs sold were equipped with the six-speed manual, reflecting a meaningful rise from 2023 figures of 38% and 45%, respectively. This resurgence in manual transmission sales highlights the passionate dedication of U.S. drivers who favour a more engaged driving experience.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) hari ini mengumumkan harga baharu untuk Touareg R-Line yang akan membuatkan SUV flagship itu lebih menarik buat para pelanggan di Malaysia. Harga runcit cadangan Touareg R-Line pemasangan tempatan itu kini ialah RM382,690, tidak termasuk VAP.

Perubahan harga itu adalah hasil maklum balas dan perkembangan positif dalam operasi Volkswagen di peringkat tempatan, selain dinamik pasaran yang lebih baik. Ini membolehkan penjimatan disalurkan kepada para pelanggan.

Touareg R-Line dikenali sebagai peneraju kerana teknologinya yang canggih serta ciri-ciri keselamatan bantuan pemandu termaju, di samping reka bentuk yang garang dan keupayaan prestasi luar biasa. Jentera itu dikuasakan oleh enjin turbo V6 pengecas turbo 3.0liter yang mampu menjana 340PS dan tork mencecah 450Nm.

Volkswagen Menangguhkan Penutupan Kilang

Selepas 70 jam perbincangan intensif, Volkswagen berjaya mencapai persetujuan dengan kesatuan sekerja untuk menangguhkan penutupan kilang dan pemberhentian besar-besaran sehingga 2030. Perjanjian ini memastikan operasi berterusan di kesemua 10 kilang Volkswagen di Jerman, sambil pekerja bersetuju untuk menarik balik rancangan mogok selanjutnya.

Kemenangan Sementara untuk Pekerja

Perjanjian ini memberikan kelegaan kepada 120,000 pekerja Volkswagen di Jerman, tetapi tidak menyelesaikan cabaran yang lebih besar bagi syarikat itu di pasaran Eropah. Dalam pelan penstrukturan semula yang diumumkan sebelum ini, Volkswagen bercadang untuk mengurangkan lebih 35,000 jawatan, terutamanya melalui persaraan awal dan pakej pembelian, kerana pengeluaran kenderaan dijangka menyusut sebanyak 734,000 unit.

Volkswagen Avoids Immediate Layoffs Amid Historic Union Deal

In the culmination of Volkswagen’s longest-ever union negotiations, the German automaker reached a critical agreement to delay plant closures and sweeping layoffs, while workers stepped back from further strikes. The resolution, finalized after a gruelling 70 hours of discussions, ensures all 10 of Volkswagen’s German plants will remain operational, with involuntary layoffs postponed until 2030.

The agreement marks a temporary win for the automaker’s 120,000 German workers. However, it does not fully resolve Volkswagen’s broader struggles in the European market. The company has committed to a restructuring plan that includes shedding over 35,000 positions, primarily through early retirement packages and buyouts, as production scales down by approximately 734,000 vehicles.

Key Concessions on Both Sides

Volkswagen withdrew its initial proposal of a 10% wage cut, while the union compromised on its demand for a 7% pay increase. These negotiations followed months of unrest, including a major strike earlier this month involving 100,000 metalworkers, with another strike planned for January.

Pelanggaran data baru-baru ini yang melibatkan Volkswagen menonjolkan betapa mudahnya maklumat sensitif menjadi terdedah apabila langkah keselamatan tidak mencukupi. Insiden ini, yang menjejaskan lebih daripada 800,000 pelanggan termasuk tokoh berprofil tinggi di Jerman, menjadi peringatan yang tegas terhadap pentingnya keselamatan siber dalam dunia yang semakin terhubung.

Data sensitif ini bocor melalui aplikasi kereta Volkswagen, yang dibangunkan oleh anak syarikatnya, Cariad. Aplikasi ini menyimpan maklumat pengecasan pelanggan pada platform Amazon Web Services (AWS). Namun, kekurangan penyulitan dan protokol keselamatan asas telah membenarkan akses tanpa sekatan kepada data pelanggan, termasuk:

Volkswagen Data Leak Exposes Over 800,000 Customers’ Personal Information

Data breaches have become an unfortunate norm but the latest incident involving Volkswagen underscores just how vulnerable sensitive information can be. A German news outlet revealed that personal data and vehicle location information for more than 800,000 customers, including high-profile German figures, was freely accessible since mid-2024 due to poor security practices.

The breach originated from VW’s car app, developed by its subsidiary Cariad, which stored customer charging data on Amazon Web Services (AWS). A lack of encryption and inadequate security protocols left sensitive data—including email addresses, home addresses, and phone numbers—exposed. Shockingly, one file even contained login credentials to VW’s Amazon cloud account, granting potential access to a treasure trove of customer information.

The leak affected multiple Volkswagen Group brands, including Audi, Seat, and Skoda. For the Volkswagen and Seat models, geolocation data was accurate within 10 centimetres, while the Audi and Skoda models were traceable within a range of 10 kilometres.
