The Volvo Padel Open 2025 concluded on a high note last Sunday, marking the end of six action-packed weekends that have firmly established the tournament as Malaysia’s premier padel event. With its second edition drawing more than 400 participants across the Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced categories, the tournament showcased not only the competitive spirit of returning players but also the enthusiasm of 160 newcomers making their first foray into the sport.

Staged in collaboration with three of the Klang Valley’s top padel venues — Joy Division Padel, Padelground, and PadelKu — the tournament brought together a vibrant community of athletes and supporters. Backed by key partners including Coca-Cola Malaysia, Tactical Padel, Directors’ ThinkTank, and REGEN Physio & Sports Rehab, the event featured prize offerings worth over RM180,000, extending beyond monetary rewards to include exclusive court time, Tactical racquets and merchandise, and a unique seven-day experience with a fully electric Volvo vehicle.

To maintain a level playing field and ensure the integrity of each match, players in the Beginner and Intermediate divisions were subject to mandatory assessments conducted by certified coaches. These assessments were complemented by complimentary coaching clinics, aimed at equipping newer participants with technical skills and confidence ahead of their qualifying matches on 19 July for the Beginner category and 26 July for both Intermediate and Advanced divisions.

Volvo Cars is ushering in a new era of sustainability with the introduction of the ES90, a fully electric flagship model set to enter production this year. Engineered with an emphasis on reducing environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, the ES90 not only marks a leap forward in electrification but also reflects the Swedish automaker’s commitment to transparency and climate responsibility.

According to Volvo’s latest Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) report, the ES90 has a total carbon footprint of just 31 tonnes when charged using the standard European energy mix. This figure is further reduced to 26 tonnes when powered exclusively by wind energy. The LCA, which has been independently verified by a third party, calculates the environmental impact of the ES90 from raw material extraction and refinement to the vehicle’s end-of-life phase.

Compared with other models in the Volvo range, the ES90 stands out for its minimal environmental impact. It generates around 50 per cent less carbon emissions than the S90 mild hybrid and 30 per cent less than the S90 plug-in hybrid. It also posts a smaller carbon footprint than the electric EX40 and EC40, making it one of the cleanest cars Volvo has ever produced.

Ia juga pernah dinobatkan sebagai World Car of the Year pada tahun 2018.

Volvo Cars has marked a major milestone as the XC60 officially becomes the brand’s all-time best-selling model, with over 2.7 million units sold globally. This achievement sees the premium mid-size SUV overtaking the iconic Volvo 240, which had long been regarded as the brand’s most beloved and recognisable vehicle.

First introduced in 2008, the XC60 quickly resonated with drivers looking for a safe, stylish, and versatile SUV. It combined Volvo’s reputation for safety with a more modern design and premium features, appealing to families and individuals alike. Originally manufactured in Europe, the XC60 later expanded its production footprint to include China, where it supported growing local demand. Its global popularity was further cemented when it won the coveted World Car of the Year award in 2018.

The current generation of the XC60 also helped accelerate Volvo’s electrification ambitions, bringing plug-in hybrid technology to a wider audience. It became Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid last year, making it not only a symbol of the brand’s past success but also a key part of its sustainable future.

Susanne Hägglund, head of Global Offer at Volvo Cars, highlighted the XC60’s transformation into a new-era classic. Reflecting on the Volvo 240’s iconic status in 1980s Sweden, she noted how the XC60 has now assumed that family-favourite role, becoming a mainstay in driveways around the world and cementing its legacy as Volvo’s top-seller.

Volvo Cars has unveiled a groundbreaking advancement in occupant protection technology with the debut of its multi-adaptive safety belt, set to launch in the fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026. This new safety system is designed to provide tailored protection for vehicle occupants by using real-time data from the car’s sophisticated sensor array, marking a major evolution of the original three-point safety belt first introduced by Volvo in 1959.

Developed to address the diversity of human body types and the unpredictability of real-world collisions, the multi-adaptive safety belt responds dynamically to both individual occupant characteristics and the specifics of each crash scenario. Drawing input from both internal and external sensors, the system calibrates belt tension to suit variables such as a person’s height, weight, body shape, and seating posture, as well as the angle and severity of a collision.

The innovation lies in the belt’s expanded use of load-limiting profiles, increasing the options from three to eleven. This significant leap enables the restraint system to apply a more precise level of force during an accident, balancing the need for secure restraint against the risk of injury from the belt itself. For example, in a serious collision involving a larger occupant, the system may apply a higher load threshold to reduce the chance of head trauma. Conversely, a smaller individual in a lower-impact crash would benefit from a lower load setting to reduce the likelihood of rib fractures.
