Enhancing Vehicle Safety With the Mazda Co-Pilot Concept

During the 1970s, as vehicle safety became a more important topic, the US Department of Transport initiated the Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESV) Program. The objective of the program was to encourage carmakers to develop safer vehicles by 1981.

Many carmakers took part in the program which offered an opportunity to share as well as test new safety technologies and ideas. Companies which sold cars in America, in particular, developed prototypes which met the more stringent US safety regulations.

The program saw over 20 ESVs being developed, with many new technologies and features that would eventually find their way into production models in the years that followed. After 1981, the companies continued their work on safety, sharing new developments at conferences. These conferences, generally held every two years, have been entitled the International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (‘Experimental’ was changed to ‘Enhanced‘ in 1991).

What women want (in their cars)

Although cars are considered to be of greater interest to men than women, the fact remains that the number of women drivers is also high. In the USA, for example, half of the licensed motorists are female and generally, there is a trend of more women driving and owning cars themselves.

The carmakers have never taken women for granted when designing and equipping cars. Even if they do not drive the car themselves, they are often considered as being influential, especially if the purchase is made by a couple.

However, as John Gray’s book, ‘Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus’, has explained, there are differences in the way men and women think, and this extends also to how their needs and expectations when it comes to cars. They may be similar in most aspects but prioritisation may be different.

Lamborghini Revuelto Unleashed

Lamborghini has apparently combined thunder and lightning for its first HPEV (High-Performance Electrified Vehicle) hybrid super sports car, the Revuelto.

The word “Revuelto”, translated to English means “scrambled” or “mixed-up” and was actually a fighting bull, a celebrity in the arenas of Barcelona in the 1880s.

BMW Submits More Than 40 New Model Name Trademark Applications

BMW has submitted more than 40 applications to register the names for its upcoming cars, including the names of its i118 to the iX760, and M350 as trademarks.

The 48 trademark applications combine names beginning with I “X,” “iX,” or “M,” followed by a number, into four-letter or number-defined categories. It’s likely that “I” stands for electric vehicles, such as the i7, “X” for crossovers and SAVs, and “iX” for an electric SAV, like the one in the current market.

Claims Available For Cars Damaged By Falling Trees In Shah Alam

The Shah Alam city council must receive a report in person from vehicle owners whose vehicles have been damaged by fallen trees in order to file a public liability insurance claim.

“There is no need for vehicle owners to wait for Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) officers to arrive at the scene of an incident to assess the situation,” said Selangor local government committee chairman Ng Sze Han.

New Porsche Cayenne To Have Dashboard With Three Screens, Making Passenger More Of A ‘Co-Driver’

At Auto Shanghai next month, the new Porsche Cayenne will have its world premiere and as is the practice these days, some of the highlights are revealed in advance. For the new generation of the successful SUV model, Porsche will have a completely new dashboard concept which is referred to as the Porsche Driver Experience, not just for the driver but also the front passenger.

Described as ‘a groundbreaking display and control concept’, the Porsche Driver Experience has a fully digital display, versatile individualisation and intuitive operation. While there is still a driver-centric approach – as would be expected of a sports SUV – the front passenger also gets more opportunity to interact with the vehicle.

2024 Kia EV9 Revealed With Specs, Features And Variants

Kia has revealed its 2024 EV9 model and it is packed with tons of features including level three autonomy and clever aerodynamics that reduce drag and thus increase range.

Kia’s new three-row electric SUV comes with three, the RWD Long Range model, the Standard RWD model, and the AWD model. All three models are based on Hyundai Group’s E-GMP electric vehicle architecture.

Singapore RTS On Track For 2026 Completion

Passengers will be able to get from Johor Bahru’s Bukit Chagar station to the Woodlands North station and vice versa in about five minutes, once the 4km RTS Link is completed.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that the link is on track to be completed by the end of 2026.

Final Testing Of New BMW i5 EV Before Launch Later In 2023

There was a time when carmakers tried very hard to prevent their prototypes from being seen and photographed. Back then, it was mainly professionals who hunted for the prototypes undergoing testing in remote places like the Arctic Circle, Death Valley (in America) and Africa. People like the Hans Lehmann, Brenda Priddy and the late Bob Dunne made a lot of money selling their pictures to magazines.

But with the advent of cameraphones and the possibility of anyone standing by the roadside taking a picture and then putting it on the internet where the whole world would see it, the thinking changed. And rather than let those people make money, the companies decided to exploit the attention by teasing the public with their own ‘spy shots’ of camouflaged cars.

New Proton X90 Will Not Be Available At All Dealerships

It’s no secret that Proton has enjoyed unprecedented success with Geely, in fact it is plain to see.

The Chinese automotive giant has not only brought sellable models like the X70 to the table, but also a management overhaul and marketing know-how from its global exploits.

Sales are off the charts but that is not enough for Proton. Other than its pursuit to sell more than it ever has, Proton has also been trying to move its image upmarket to be regarded as a premium carmaker.

To do this Proton has not only introduced cars that look good with impressive craftsmanship, but it has also worked to improve the customer experience at showrooms and service centres.

Since 2018, Proton has been working with dealers to upgrade from 1S centres to full-fledged 3S and 4S centres.

Those that did not want to trade up had to be let go.

This step was taken in the name of customer experience. And there’s no doubt that ever since it took this drastic step, Proton showrooms and service centres have been at their finest in Proton’s history.

Now though Proton is set to take it a step further with the soon to be introduced Proton X90.
