Although the ORC ROOKIE Racing Team did not for run the entire time at the recent Idemitsu 1500 Super Endurance 2022 (Thailand 25-Hour Endurance Race), its cars drew much attention during the first and last few hours that they were running. Their participation was not to compete in the race but to showcase the feasibility of carbon neutrality using existing technology and resources to offer multiple pathways to accelerate carbon neutrality in a prompt and practical manner.

Besides the two entries of the ORC ROOKIE Racing Team (founded and owned by Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation), there was also a Carbon-neutral fuel car entered by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Team Thailand which won the finish Carbon Neutral Power Cup and completed completing 443 laps.

Anyone wanting to drive from Singapore to Bangkok can do so on nice highways through Malaysia and Thailand. Like other highways around the world, there are petrol stations all along the way so refuelling is not a concern.

The situation is a bit different for those with electric vehicles (EVs) as they need electricity rather than liquid fuel. It is only in the past couple of years that EV sales have started and the need for recharging stations has taken on an urgency. Unless there is a comprehensive network of stations around the country, EV owners will be unable to travel far and this will discourage buying such vehicles.

The private sector has been giving its support to the government’s call to establish this network and Shell Malaysia has collaborated with Porsche Asia Pacific to set up stations not just in Malaysia but also in Singapore and Thailand. The network is along the North-South Expressway in Malaysia and then highways in Thailand, the longest cross-country high-performance charging (HPC) infrastructure EV network in Southeast Asia.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘work from home’ or ‘wfh’ became a common practice as lockdowns and the need to keep apart prevented people from going to work in offices. Now Hyundai Motor has come up with another working practice for teams which could be called ‘work from anywhere’. Using a bus, it enables teams to remain productive while on the move and at remote locations.

The bus is a special version of the Universe luxury passenger bus sold in the Korean market. Referred to as the Universe Mobile Office, it is configured to make the bus a smart mobility solution, not just as a means of transportation. With this model, the company aims to lead the motor coach sector with a customized solution that takes remote work to the next level of mobility and luxury.

It’s a usual practice for companies to offer a reduction in prices at the end of the year as they want to clear stocks. And it is also not uncommon for prices in the new year to be revised upwards.

However, for those who order a new Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Life today and take delivery in January 2023, the price will be lower. Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has announced that the new price, with immediate effect, is from RM159,990 (without insurance), which is RM13,000 less than its launch price which was from RM172,990.

In order to grow its volumes further, Proton will need to look for new markets outside Malaysia and while the number of export markets is small, the increasing popularity of the Malaysian brand means brighter prospects for the future. One such market which is showing great potential is South Africa, which Proton returned to this year after a 10-year absence.

For its return, Proton teamed up with CMH (Combined Motor Holdings) Group, an investment holding company which has been active in the motor business since 1987. Proton joins a long list of global brands that CMH represents, some of which are Ford, Chery, Honda, Toyota, Suzuki, Mahindra, Peugeot and Citroen.

Mention of Bertone will bring to mind the exotic supercars of the 1960s and 1970s, the most notable probably being the various Lamborghini models. Although Nuccio Bertone passed away in 1997, the greatness of the company as an automotive design studio has lived on. On the 110th anniversary of its founding, it has unveiled the first in a series of limited edition hypercars.

This is the GB110, which starts a new era for Bertone under its current owners – Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci – who acquired the Bertone brand in 2020. “We are building this car for customers that appreciate the history and legacy of Bertone. And for connoisseurs who love sportscars with exceptional performance. It’s not only about raw power and performance. It’s about celebrating the long Italian tradition of timeless elegant cars,” said Jean-Franck Ricci, CEO of Bertone.

To car companies, customers are the most important people for their business and every effort is made to ensure that they have a great ownership experience. Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), the sole distributor for Ford in Malaysia, has various activities that enhance that experience and recently, the company hosted the first-ever Ford Inner Circle event in Malaysia.

The Ford Inner Circle event brought together customers of the Next-Generation Ford Ranger customers at the flagship Ford showroom in Sime Darby Motors City in Ara Damansara, Selangor. Being a festive month, it had a Christmas theme for Ranger owners and their families.

Besides the food, fun and drink, expert instructors were also on hand at a familiarisation workshop to give owners a deeper understanding of their Ranger. Some may already have been truck owners but the latest Ranger comes with many new features, especially impressive high-tech features, which may be new to many.

It appears that since we have had a confirmed new government, the price of RON97 petrol has become cheaper and cheaper. Of course, it’s a coincidence as retail prices of fuel are based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) which takes into account many factors (not just the global oil prices). Anyway, there’s yet another 20 sen reduction after midnight today, taking the price per litre down to RM3.35.
