GAC Motor and its electric sub-brand AION made a significant impression at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 with a dynamic lineup that signals a new era of mobility for the local market. Spearheading their showcase was the much-anticipated debut of the GAC M8 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), Malaysia’s first flagship PHEV MPV, now officially open for booking.

The event also featured the striking HYPTEC HT, presented in both gull-wing and standard door configurations, ahead of its official launch in the third quarter of the year. Making its first appearance in Malaysia was the futuristic AION V electric SUV, while the anniversary of the GS3 EMZOOM was commemorated with a limited-time promotional campaign.

These launches represent a bold commitment by WTC Automotive (WTCA), the official distributor, to meet growing Malaysian demand for advanced, sustainable, and future-oriented vehicles.

GAC M8 PHEV: A New Chapter in Premium MPV Mobility

Touted as the nation’s first flagship PHEV MPV, the GAC M8 introduces a blend of luxury, efficiency, and long-range capability that places it at the forefront of its segment. With a total driving range of up to 1,038 kilometres on a full tank and full charge, the M8 is positioned to meet both urban commuting needs and longer-distance travel without sacrificing comfort or performance.

The M8 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of intelligent driver assistance technologies and a world-first innovation: a rear windscreen airbag as part of GAC’s patented 360° full-surround airbag system. Its magazine battery system further reinforces safety by improving structural stability and reducing thermal risk, while the cabin has been designed to enhance passenger comfort and convenience.

According to WTC Automotive CEO Tan Keng Meng, the M8 is expected to retail from RM333,000, with the full specifications to be announced closer to its launch. The model comes with a 5-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, alongside an 8-year/150,000 km warranty for the battery, drive motor, and electric control systems. Early adopters who book during the pre-sales period will receive two years of free scheduled maintenance and a complimentary portable charging cable, together worth RM3,800.

Tan described the M8 as a redefinition of the modern MPV, combining hybrid efficiency, premium luxury, and extensive safety technologies to offer an unparalleled driving experience for discerning consumers in Malaysia.

HYPTEC HT and AION V Signal the Future of Electrification

Further cementing GAC and AION’s forward-thinking strategy, the HYPTEC HT attracted strong attention from visitors at the Autoshow. Although previously shown in Malaysia, this marks the closest preview yet for Malaysian consumers before its official local debut. With a futuristic aesthetic and available in dramatic gull-wing or standard configurations, the HT represents the next evolution in premium EVs.

Since its launch in Thailand, the HYPTEC HT has become one of the brand’s most sought-after models. It features GAC’s advanced magazine battery, enhancing both safety and durability. With a range of up to 620 km (NEDC) and support for DC fast-charging of up to 280 kW, the vehicle is tailored for both everyday use and extended travel, with minimal concerns over range or recharge times.

Meanwhile, the AION V electric SUV took the stage for its first Malaysian appearance following a successful global introduction at the Paris Motor Show. Drawing inspiration from the powerful stance of a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the vehicle sports an aggressive, future-forward design. Powered by a 100kW motor producing 240Nm of torque, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. With a maximum NEDC range of 602 km, it offers both speed and practicality in equal measure. While interior specifications remain under wraps, its exterior design and performance promise to make it a formidable entry into Malaysia’s growing EV segment.

GS3 EMZOOM Anniversary Offer Adds Excitement to the Lineup

In conjunction with the one-year anniversary of the GS3 EMZOOM’s presence in Malaysia, GAC Motor announced a special “Anniversary Mega Offer” with the tagline “More Style, More Power, More Thrill.” As part of the promotion, customers can drive home the stylish and high-performance crossover with monthly instalments starting from just RM990.

As the country’s largest automotive showcase unfolds, PRO-NET is asserting its leadership in EV innovation alongside Proton, reflecting a national vision increasingly shaped by sustainability and future-forward design.

Among the headline attractions is a new EV model, freshly revealed under a camouflaged wrap that quickly became a focal point for visitors. This latest development marks a pivotal chapter in PRO-NET’s electrification roadmap.

During a dedicated media session, PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang officially introduced the company’s latest electric vehicle – the Proton e.MAS 5. Scheduled for market launch in the final quarter of 2025, the e.MAS 5 is designed to cater to young drivers and first-time EV buyers, offering a stylish, practical, and accessible entry point into electric mobility. While more compact in form, the e.MAS 5 maintains the same intelligent features and progressive aesthetics that define the e.MAS series. It has been developed with a focus on providing an exciting and dynamic driving experience for a younger, urban demographic.

Zhang stated that the Proton e.MAS 5 embodies PRO-NET’s vision for a new generation of smart and sustainable transport in Malaysia. Unlike the family-oriented e.MAS 7, the e.MAS 5 targets a more vibrant and youthful market, embracing a greener and more connected automotive future.

Its design language reflects a deliberate blend of strength and sophistication. The vehicle comes equipped with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lamps.

A panoramic sunroof, roof rails, 20-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, and retractable side steps round out its exterior amenities. Customers can choose from three colours: Crystal Grey, Hamilton White, and Sun Black.

Powering the Tank 500 is a hybrid system comprising a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor. The petrol unit generates 244PS and 380Nm of torque, while the electric motor contributes 106PS and 268Nm.

Together, they deliver a combined output of 346PS and a torque figure of 648Nm. Power is transmitted via a 9-speed Hydraulic Automatic Transmission (HAT) and distributed through a selectable four-wheel-drive system.

The SUV also offers eleven selectable drive modes—four tailored for on-road use and seven calibrated for off-road scenarios. Specialised technologies such as Tank Turn, off-road cruise control, and water wading capability up to 800 mm—with assistance from a water depth detection system—further enhance its capabilities. In addition, a Body Transparent System using camera technology improves underbody visibility, making complex terrain navigation more manageable.

Inside the cabin, the Tank 500 offers a refined and technologically advanced environment. Passengers are greeted with quilted Nappa leather upholstery, with the front seats providing electric adjustment, ventilation, and massage functions.

Comfort is further supported by triple-zone climate control and retractable sunshades for rear occupants. The third row can be electronically folded or raised using controls mounted in the boot area.

Technology features prominently in the SUV’s interior, led by a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The vehicle also includes a 12-speaker Infinity audio system, a head-up display, and wireless charging for mobile devices.

The Tank 500 is equally well-appointed in terms of safety. It comes fitted with six airbags and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Key features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality, Lane Keeping and Lane Centring Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Cross Traffic Alert with automatic braking at both the front and rear.
