Maserati and Alfa Romeo are reportedly collaborating on a highly exclusive, limited-run model that could stand as the most powerful internal combustion engine car either brand has produced in recent decades. The forthcoming vehicle is believed to be based on Maserati’s GranTurismo platform and may enter production as early as next year, according to sources close to the development.

Industry insiders suggest the new car is intended to build upon the legacy of halo models such as the Maserati MC20 and Alfa Romeo’s 33 Stradale. However, in contrast to the shift towards electrification sweeping across Stellantis brands, this model is set to forgo hybridisation entirely in favour of a purist mechanical experience.

Autocar has reported that the engine is expected to be an uprated version of Maserati’s existing twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Nettuno V6, an already potent powerplant that delivers 621hp and 720Nm of torque in the MC20. In this upcoming model, however, performance figures are likely to surpass those of the MC20-based MCPura, elevating it to the uppermost echelons of Maserati’s combustion-powered offerings.

Maserati has officially ushered in a new chapter of automotive innovation in Malaysia, introducing its first all-electric models, the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore. These new additions not only signal the brand’s commitment to electrification but also mark Maserati as the first Italian luxury manufacturer to fully embrace electric mobility.

The GranTurismo Folgore represents a striking blend of performance and poise, embodying the elegance of a traditional grand tourer reimagined for the future. Powered by three radial electric motors, it produces a formidable 750hp, enabling the coupe to sprint from zero to 100km/h in a mere 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 325 km/h. At the heart of this performance lies a 92.5 kWh battery pack, with 83 kWh usable capacity, offering a WLTP-certified range of up to 450km. Thanks to its advanced 800-volt electrical system, the vehicle can regain 100 kilometres of range in just five minutes, while a charge from 20% to 80% takes only 18 minutes.

Inside, the GranTurismo Folgore delivers a refined and contemporary experience, with a minimalist interior designed around intuitive technology and tactile luxury. Despite its sleek silhouette, it offers 270 litres of boot space, ensuring everyday practicality. Priced from RM998,800, the model combines timeless Italian design with cutting-edge performance, bringing a fresh definition to the grand touring experience.

The Grecale Folgore, Maserati’s all-electric SUV, offers a different expression of the brand’s electric vision—designed for both urban commuting and adventurous getaways. Equipped with two motors generating a total of 549hp, the Grecale accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h. A 105 kWh battery delivers up to 500 kilometres of range, supported by an AC onboard charger of 22 kW for convenient overnight charging. For quicker top-ups, 100 kilometres of range can be restored in just nine minutes.

Practicality meets Italian artistry in the Grecale’s interior, which offers 535 litres of luggage space and a meticulously crafted environment tailored to modern lifestyles. Starting at RM588,000, the SUV stands as a testament to Maserati’s ability to merge electric performance with daily versatility.

The name “Folgore,” meaning lightning in Italian, encapsulates Maserati’s forward-looking ethos—a symbol of power, energy, and progress. With the launch of these fully electric models, Maserati Malaysia redefines what it means to drive a luxury Italian vehicle in the electric age.

The GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore are now available for viewing at authorised Maserati showrooms nationwide, offering Malaysians a firsthand glimpse into the brand’s electrified future.

Stellantis is poised to announce a comprehensive recovery strategy for two of its most troubled marques, Alfa Romeo and Maserati, in the coming weeks. The plan aims to arrest declining sales and strengthen the competitiveness of the historic Italian brands through increased collaboration, though a full merger is reportedly off the table.

The strategy, which is nearing final approval, will see Alfa Romeo and Maserati seek operational “synergies” across future vehicle platforms and shared components in overlapping market segments. This collaborative approach is intended to streamline development and reduce costs, though each brand is expected to retain its distinct identity.

The move follows persistent speculation about Maserati’s future, including rumours of a potential sale—claims Stellantis executives have continued to deny. At the same time, concerns are mounting over delays to Alfa Romeo’s next-generation Stelvio SUV, a model seen as crucial to the brand’s revival.

Sales figures paint a grim picture. Alfa Romeo posted an estimated 20 per cent decline in sales last year, while Maserati suffered a more severe drop of over 50 per cent, despite launching new products. Compared to their peak years, both marques have seen sales plummet, with Alfa Romeo now selling just half the volume it achieved in 2018.

Penjualan Merosot, Tekanan Meningkat

Stellantis is in troubled waters. After a year marked by declining sales and falling revenue, the company is now grappling with the abrupt resignation of CEO Carlos Tavares. 2024 was meant to be a rebuilding year, but with steep U.S. tariffs now firmly in place under former President Trump’s renewed policies, things could soon spiral further out of control.

Among the most vulnerable brands under Stellantis are Alfa Romeo and Maserati, both of which are struggling to survive in a hostile market. In response to the escalating crisis, Stellantis has reportedly brought in management consulting giant McKinsey & Company to assess the situation, with a specific focus on the impact of tariffs.

A Stellantis spokesperson told Automotive News Europe that McKinsey was “asked to provide its considerations” for the two marques, though no further details were provided. Still, the move suggests that drastic changes may be on the horizon.
