Historic Mercedes-Benz W196 Stromlinienwagen Sells for RM262 Million at Auction

Mercedes-Benz has once again made history in the world of automotive auctions. A rare 1954 W196 Stromlinienwagen, bearing chassis number 00009/54, was recently sold for a staggering €51.2 million (approximately RM262 million), making it the second most expensive car ever auctioned. The sale was conducted by RM Sotheby’s at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, with proceeds directed towards restoration efforts for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, which had owned the car since 1965.

This remarkable sale places the W196 Stromlinienwagen second only to another legendary Mercedes-Benz model—the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé—which fetched an unprecedented $143 million (around RM669 million) in 2022.

The W196 Stromlinienwagen was initially built in an open-wheel configuration and underwent its first tests in December 1954. It made its racing debut at a non-Formula 1 event in Argentina in January 1955, driven by none other than five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio. The car was powered by a 3.0-litre M196 engine, paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

Mercedes-Benz Partners with Google Cloud to Revolutionise In-Car Navigation and Voice Assistance

Mercedes-Benz and Google Cloud have announced an expanded strategic partnership aimed at elevating the MBUX Virtual Assistant through advanced conversational capabilities powered by Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent. Built on Gemini, Google’s state-of-the-art generative AI model on Vertex AI, the Automotive AI Agent is specifically designed for the automotive sector. By integrating Google Maps Platform, it offers personalised, real-time navigation and point-of-interest (POI) insights to Mercedes-Benz drivers.

Enhanced Navigation and Conversational AI

The upgraded MBUX Virtual Assistant will enable natural, intuitive conversations, allowing users to ask detailed questions about navigation or POIs. For example, drivers can say:

  • “Could you guide me to the nearest fine-dining restaurant for a unique culinary experience?”
  • Follow up with: “Does the restaurant have good reviews?” or “What is the chef’s signature dish?”

Responses will include accurate, up-to-date information, displayed seamlessly through the vehicle’s native interface. Google Maps Platform powers this feature, delivering real-time data updates across 250 million global locations, refreshed over 100 million times daily.

Mercedes-Benz Melancarkan Sistem Drive Pilot Dipertingkat untuk Pemanduan Autonomi Tahap 3 SAE

Mercedes-Benz telah mencapai kemajuan penting dalam teknologi pemanduan autonomi dengan memperkenalkan kemas kini terbaru untuk sistem Drive Pilot. Kini diperakui oleh Pihak Berkuasa Pengangkutan Motor Persekutuan Jerman, Drive Pilot telah menjadi sistem pemanduan automatik bersyarat (SAE Tahap 3) terpantas yang tersedia dalam kenderaan pengeluaran standard. Ia dijadualkan memasuki pasaran pada awal 2025 melalui model S-Class dan EQS dengan harga permulaan €5,950 (sekitar RM27,620).

Ciri dan Ketersediaan

Pelanggan yang memiliki kenderaan dengan sistem Drive Pilot sedia ada boleh menerima kemas kini perisian ini secara percuma, sama ada over-the-air (OTA) atau di pusat servis sah, tanpa memerlukan pengubahsuaian perkakasan.

Mercedes-Benz Rolls Out Enhanced Drive Pilot System for SAE Level 3 Autonomous Driving

Mercedes-Benz has achieved a significant milestone in autonomous driving with the latest update to its Drive Pilot system, now certified by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority. This upgrade positions Drive Pilot as the fastest conditionally automated driving system (SAE Level 3) available in standard production vehicles. The feature is set to hit the market in early 2025, offered on the S-Class and EQS luxury saloons at a starting price of €5,950 (around RM27,620).

Existing vehicles equipped with Drive Pilot can receive the software update for free, either over-the-air or at authorized service centres, with no need for hardware modifications.

Mercedes-Benz Lancar Pusat Logistik Serantau Baharu di Malaysia

Mercedes-Benz kini memperkukuh kehadiran serantaunya di Asia-Pasifik dengan pelancaran Pusat Logistik Serantau Malaysia (RLCM) di Senai Airport City, Johor. Di bawah kendalian Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics Asia Pacific Sdn. Bhd., pusat ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimumkan perkhidmatan logistik merentasi 20 negara, sekali gus meningkatkan perkhidmatan selepas jualan dan kecekapan logistik di seluruh rantau.

Police Nab Human Smuggling Suspect, Discover 15 Illegal Immigrants in Luxury Vehicle

Authorities have apprehended a 58-year-old man in Kampung Kok Keli, Tumpat, Kelantan, on suspicion of smuggling 15 illegal immigrants from Myanmar using a Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicle. The arrest, part of Op Taring, was conducted by the 8th Battalion of the General Operations Team (PGA) of the Southeast Brigade, according to Commander Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid.

According to FMT, the operation led to a raid on a house based on intelligence about human smuggling activities. Upon arrival, two suspects attempted to flee; however, one was successfully apprehended. Authorities discovered 14 men and one woman, all believed to be Myanmar nationals, in a Mercedes-Benz and a Grand Livina parked outside the house. None could present valid identification documents.
