The all-electric Mercedes Vision EQXX continues to make waves in the automotive industry, showcasing groundbreaking innovation and remarkable efficiency. Following its impressive 1,008km and 1,202km single-charge drives, the Vision EQXX has embarked on another monumental road trip that was 1,010km, this time braving the desert heat to test its advanced thermal management system under extreme conditions.

The primary objective of the desert expedition was to evaluate the car’s thermal management system’s effectiveness in temperatures reaching up to 34 degrees Celsius. Despite the harsh environment, the intelligent on-demand system flawlessly maintained optimal temperatures for both the electric drivetrain and cabin, ensuring minimal impact on energy efficiency. The air conditioning system, powered by a multi-source heat pump, played a crucial role in maintaining comfort while conserving energy.

Inching closer to its series production, the upcoming Mini Aceman is currently being subjected to gruelling tests, navigating sandy desert roads under scorching temperatures. Measuring 4,075mm in length, 1,754mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, the Aceman positions itself between the Mini Cooper and the Mini Countryman. Serving as the third stand-alone model in the all-new electric Mini lineup, the Aceman boasts four doors and a spacious tailgate, offering accommodation for up to five passengers.

The Mini Aceman, having already triumphed in tests at the Arctic Circle, is now undergoing final evaluations in the desert’s blistering heat and strong sunlight. Beyond evaluating standard features like driving dynamics and comfort, the test team places a significant focus on assessing the electric vehicle’s specific challenges. This involves rigorous testing of air conditioning, battery charging, and cooling mechanisms, as well as the performance of the drive and control components. All these tests are carried out in the demanding conditions of dusty desert sands, where temperatures can soar up to 50°C.

The forthcoming Aceman is set to be exclusively available as a fully electric vehicle, featuring a 54.2 kWh battery. Embracing the electric drive concept, this agile crossover manages to maximise comfort and versatility while minimising its road footprint. True to the brand’s fundamental principles, the design prioritises ample interior space within compact external dimensions, delivering agile driving characteristics and optimal efficiency. The functional two-box design, characterised by short overhangs, allows for a spacious interior that accommodates five passengers and luggage within a minimal footprint.

Maserati has announced the debut of the electric version of its MC20 sportscar, named the MC20 Folgore, as part of the brand’s intensified push towards electrification. Originally slated for a 2022 release, the electric variant will now hit the market in 2025. Despite the delay, Maserati aims to make a significant impact with the sporty EV, showcasing its commitment to sustainable and high-performance electric vehicles.

While images of the MC20 Folgore are yet to be released, it is expected to closely resemble its petrol-powered counterpart with distinctive differences like a charging port and the absence of exhaust at the rear. Aerodynamic tweaks may also be incorporated to enhance efficiency.

MC20 Notte

The primary transformation lies in the powertrain, featuring a tri-motor setup capable of producing over 700hp. This electric powerhouse is anticipated to accelerate the car from 0- 100km/h in just two seconds, a notable improvement over the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre Nettuno V-6 in the current MC20. Maserati envisions adding only around 99kg to the car’s weight despite the increased potency.

The MC20 Folgore is part of Maserati’s broader electrification strategy, which includes the upcoming GranCabrio Folgore set to be released later this year. Additionally, a new electric crossover model is slated for 2027, with an electric version of the Quattroporte expected in 2028.

Closer to home, back in October of last year, Maserati introduced the MC20 Cielo to the Malaysian market. The MC20 Cielo made its global debut in 2022 and is priced at RM1,228,000.00 before local duties and taxes, customisation options, and insurance.

Lotus has just unveiled its highly anticipated new flagship model, the Emeya. Formerly referred to as the Type 133, this all-electric four-door sedan is set to make a bold statement in the automotive world and go head-to-head with formidable rivals like the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan Turbo.

The Eletre, which is available in Malaysia from RM578,000, and Emeya both use the same platform, the specialised Electric Premium Architecture (EPA), which is a product of Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). The Emeya has a 102kWh battery pack and is anticipated to have a range comparable to the Eletre, which has an outstanding 600km range based on the  WLTP cycle. Even while it is a little bit smaller than the Eletre’s 112kWh pack, it makes up for it with 350 kilowatts of quick charging power. A 350kW DC fast charger can charge the Emeya from 10 to 80 per cent in only 18 minutes, and it can add 150km to its range in just five minutes.

Although Lotus has opted to suppress some information regarding the Emeya, they have made some significant performance claims. The car has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that can generate 905hp and 985Nm of torque. Lotus claim that this engine can accelerate the car from 0 to 100km/h in 2.78 seconds, with a peak speed of 256km/h.
