The New Ranger is packed with Ford’ latest innovations and is born ready to take on the world with many first and only in-class features, the likes of which has never been introduced in pickup trucks before.

Long gone are the days when pickups were designed and built only to tackle muddy tracks and tough terrains. As technology evolves and consumer preferences change, the Ranger DNA was altered, building it to be more versatile, luxurious and less utilitarian. Features have been added for the Ranger to take on the concrete jungle. Customers now have the option of owning not just an adventure or commercial-ready truck, but also a lifestyle and family vehicle.

In Malaysia, there is a growing number of Ranger vehicles on the road purchased for lifestyle reasons, thanks to its suite of smart technologies, which is further complemented by a stylish and well-sculpted car-like interior. Ford’s best-selling nameplate in Malaysia was refined inside out without compromising on safety and off-road capabilities, making the Ranger smarter, tougher and more powerful.

Ford unveiled an exclusive Black Edition of its ever popular Ranger at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s based on the European market’s Limited Series variant that comes with a unique colour scheme and a plethora of features that set it apart from the base vehicle.

This particular Ranger comes with de-chromed body in Absolute Black with a black finish for the radiator grille, alloy wheels, sports bar and exterior detailing. Adding to this level of exclusivity, only 2,500 examples of this variant will ever be produced. And all of them will be offered with the Double Cab body-style only.

Besides this, the Black Edition is fitted with satellite navigation, front parking sensors and rear view camera, Ford SYNC 3 multimedia system with 8-inch touchscreen, dual-zone electronic climate control, leather seat trim, and power-folding as well as heated door mirrors.

Speaking of the latest addition to the stable, Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe, said, “Ranger customers appreciate the vehicle’s tough, go-anywhere capability and its rugged good looks, and we expect this attractive new limited series to be snapped up within weeks.”

In Europe, the Ford Ranger is the top selling pick-up truck as of July 2017, which also marks an increase of 12.1% in sales for the automaker. It managed to shift 23,100 compared to the same period last year.

It’s a similar story in Malaysia, despite fierce competition, the Ranger is still one of the favorites because of it what it is able to offer local customers.

Ford has introduced a new variant of their ever popular pick-up truck in the Malaysian market, called the Ranger FX4. The vehicle is said to have been inspired by the needs and wants of the enthusiast community and as such features an updated grille and visual graphics.

The FX4 is fitted with an exclusive new front grille with a mesh pattern, matte decal design on the bonnet and blacked-out fog light bezel that add to its menacing appeal. Under the bonnet is the same 2.2-litre Duratorq diesel engine that produces a decent amount of horsepower and torque for a vehicle of its size.

Ford has fitted 18-inch Stark Gray painted wheels and a black sports bar to complement the overall theme of the graphics. On the tailgate, there’s a blacked-out decal that spells out the word RANGER, which contrasts with the vehicle’s body colour.

Inside, the same exterior colour combination has been incorporated into the cabin, The leather seats complement the dark interior and offer a sense of refinement to this off-road vehicle.

Like the rest of the line up, the FX4 features Ford’s SYNC in-car connectivity system as well as safety tech that include Rear Park Assist with reverse camera, Electric Power Assisted Steering, Hill Descent Control, electronic locking rear differential and Electronic Stability Program.

The FX4 comes with the same water wading capabilities as the rest of the variants which is a respectable 800 mm deep and features a ground clearance of 230 mm as well as having the ability tow a payload of of up to 3,500kg.

“Our customers in Malaysia already know the Ranger for its raw capability, advanced technologies and rugged, tough appearance,” said Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto Connexion. “The Ranger FX4 builds on this foundation with a bold new look and premium features that we think they will love.”

Ford’s Ranger FX4 can be had in either Aluminum Metallic or Meteor Grey body colours and is available to order at RM121,888 at any Ford dealership nationwide. Visit the automaker’s local website to learn more about this new variant.

Ford will be introducing its strongest selection of pick-up trucks for the Chinese market. After extensive market research into the needs and wants of the average Chinese customer, Ford determined that despite the perception of pick-trucks being reserved for utilitarian work, exposure to western movies and the internet, that is slowly changing.

The Blue Oval will introduce the stalwart Ranger along side its bigger and meaner sibling, the F-150 Raptor in China. Currently, pick-up trucks make up only 2 percent of the vehicle market, but its market share grew to a respectable 14 per cent last year, prompting Ford to launch another one of its most cherished vehicles in its fleet. Released under the Built Ford Tough tagline, the new vehicles should help Ford’s bottom line somewhat.

“We’re very excited to bring Built Ford Tough, one of the world’s best loved and most successful brands, to customers in the world’s largest auto market,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO. “We see a significant white-space opportunity with Chinese buyers increasingly looking for more capable, more refined and more stylish pickups.”

The Ranger, is Ford’s best selling midsize pick up truck in Europe, South Africa and New Zealand. It is also the second best selling truck outside North America. The F-150 Raptor, is offered in China as a four-door SuperCrew model and combines military grade body construction with advanced Ford technologies.

“The F-150 Raptor has created a lot of buzz among Chinese customers since it was revealed for the first time last year and we are extremely excited to have it arriving in our showrooms in China, ready to be delivered to customers,” said Peter Fleet, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford Asia Pacific.

Ford has sold more than 26 million Raptor trucks since 1977 and it has been America’s top selling truck for 40 consecutive years. The one sold in China features a 3.5-litre Ecoboost engine that is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Brute power and the go anywhere capabilities have made the Raptor a sought after vehicle around the world, and how well it does in China remains to be seen.
