The “Ice Race Edition” of the RS e-tron GT has just been introduced by Audi. The same-named idea, which was originally developed to commemorate Audi Sport GmbH’s 40th anniversary, served as the inspiration for this special edition. The RS e-tron GT Ice Race Edition, which is only available to European consumers in quantities of 99, showcases Audi’s wide range of personalisation possibilities.

The exterior has a black carbon roof, white emblems, and 21-inch black wheels in addition to a Florett silver metallic paint finish. The full-body foil wrap with deliberately positioned translucent patches to resemble the look of snow crystals and ice lakes is a key design feature. Ski goggles serve as the design inspiration for the purple embellishments, which are predominantly found around the grille and give the piece a distinctive look.

Gordon Murray, designer of the Brabham and McLaren F1 racing cars and the McLaren F1  road car, has revealed the fourth product of his company, Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA). It’s the T.33 Spider, a topless version of the T.33 Coupe which was unveiled in January 2022.

Developed in parallel with the coupe and sharing the same ultralight carbonfibre monocoque construction, the T.33 Spider has been engineered with greater torsional stiffness as it does not have the roof structure. However, with the stringent and meticulous weight-saving approaches taken, the Spider is just 18 kgs heavier than the 1,090 kg coupe.

With production of the MINI Clubman likely to be in its final year, the company appears to have decided to commemorate its impending retirement with a Final Edition that will be offered worldwide, but only in a limited number of 1,969 units.

Why such an odd number, you may wonder? The answer is simple – 1969 was the year the original Mini Clubman was introduced and it would be in production for 12 years.

Unless you work with Audi – and with the R&D department – you would not be able to drive those camouflaged prototypes that are seen in spy photos or even officially shown by the carmaker. They are usually super secret vehicles and only driven outside the factory premises when necessary for real-world testing.

Now Audi of America offers 75 customers a chance to feel like they are driving one of those prototypes with the RS e-tron GT ‘project_513/2’. This is a limited run model which closely resembles the prototype car. It has the original design used for global prototype testing with “e-tron” camouflage script on both the exterior and interior.

At many motorshows, there are the major carmakers who display their production and concept models and usually occupy the biggest floor spaces. And there are smaller companies which may have one model – often with a unique design – on display. Some of these small companies may have big plans and are hoping to draw interest from investors so they can commercialize their ideas, or they are hoping to get advance orders (and money) from customers so they have funding to proceed.

While many fade away, some are lucky to be able to get funding and move forward. They are the ‘start-ups’ which often have some new and innovative ideas or ‘disruptive’ strategies which they believe will ‘transform’ the market. And these days, the focus is on electric vehicles (EVs), which can use business models that differ from the traditional auto industry models.

One such company which appeared two years ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show was Alpha Motor Corporation which displayed interesting designs. The company had plans though they were vague and had a few concept models to show but no specific time-lines to provide. Their answers to media queries were also vague but that’s not unusual for start-ups which are just well, getting started. Furthermore, they would also want to keep things secret so rivals don’t know what they are really working on.

Mention of Bertone will bring to mind the exotic supercars of the 1960s and 1970s, the most notable probably being the various Lamborghini models. Although Nuccio Bertone passed away in 1997, the greatness of the company as an automotive design studio has lived on. On the 110th anniversary of its founding, it has unveiled the first in a series of limited edition hypercars.

This is the GB110, which starts a new era for Bertone under its current owners – Mauro and Jean-Franck Ricci – who acquired the Bertone brand in 2020. “We are building this car for customers that appreciate the history and legacy of Bertone. And for connoisseurs who love sportscars with exceptional performance. It’s not only about raw power and performance. It’s about celebrating the long Italian tradition of timeless elegant cars,” said Jean-Franck Ricci, CEO of Bertone.
