MINI Malaysia today introduced fresh additions to the MINI Electric Resolute Edition, providing new stunning colourways to the all-electric MINI 3 Door.

With global inflation and rising manufacturing costs, BMW Group Malaysia, like other car companies, is facing challenges and has announced an upward revision of prices starting this month. The volume-weighted average price revisions are approximately 4.7% and 2.6% for BMW and MINI models, respectively.
To maintain BMW Group Malaysia’s the comprehensive warranty and maintenance programmes, BMW and MINI Service and Repair Inclusive (BSRI/MSRI) package prices are also updated accordingly and included in the overall price increase.
Auto Bavaria, a dealership group for the BMW Group in Malaysia, has opened its new outlet in Jalan Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur, to complement the aftersales services at Auto Bavaria Kuala Lumpur. The facility, referred to as Auto Bavaria CSL, focusses on providing quick service and repairs for BMW and MINI vehicles with the BMW & MINI Service Fast Lane.
It is the third Auto Bavaria service workshop in the city centre, alongside Jalan Tun Razak and Sungai Besi. It operates 6 days a week, except on public holidays
Offering regular vehicle maintenance, wear and tear repairs, tyre replacements, cosmetic repairs, etc, the new 39,800 square-foot facility has a customer lounge, Isetta Bar, reception bays for incoming vehicles and a BMW AC charging station. At this time, it has a team of 23 employees

Cars today are generally reliable and durable, able to last a longer period of time with no major problems. This is due to better manufacturing processes, engineering, materials, etc. so the warranty is really for peace of mind, at least during the initial years of ownership. In fact, warranties typically cover manufacturing defects and wear and tear parts are not covered.
Back in the 1970s, the typical warranty for a new car was a year, or a maximum of 20,000 kms of mileage after original registration. European manufacturers, perhaps understanding that their customers (in Europe) travelled long distances each year, generally didn’t put a mileage limit.
Longer periods as a selling point
Over the years, the warranty period and mileage limit became longer and longer, more as a selling point than anything else. The cars were more durable, but a long warranty period suggested the carmaker had a lot of confidence in its quality, and owners felt better to have the coverage for a longer period.
‘Win-win’ for both sides?
BMW Group Malaysia is now ending that escalation in warranty periods with a new approach that it says will ‘enable greater customer personalisation of their ownership experience’. It’s a win-win situation for both sides; the customer can enjoy a lower price while the company reduces its long-term exposure to warranty claims.
However, there may still be customers who like the peace of mind that a longer warranty period gives and for them, BMW Group Malaysia offers a 5-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty Package or 5-years/100,000-km Service Package as extra-cost options.

Available for MINI too
The new pricing approach applied to MINI vehicles as well. Customers of this brand can opt to add a 4-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service (Extended Warranty & Service Package) at the same cost as before. Alternatively, those who prefer to purchase their vehicle at the recommended retail price paired with either the 4-year Unlimited Mileage Warranty Package or 4-year/60,000-km Service Package can do so at a more attractive rate.
In the event that the owner decides, after a year or maximum of two years, that he or she would prefer a longer warranty period, there is still the possibility of purchasing the extended packages which range in price from RM5,900 to RM9,400 (RM2,500 to RM5,600 for MINI), depending on the model. The only thing is that the cost will have to paid as a lump sum rather than being included in the financed amount at the time of vehicle purchase.
Other ownership benefits still included
Regardless of which warranty they choose, all vehicles purchased from authorised dealerships will still come with access to the BMW or MINI Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline, BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App – BMW Privileges Card, MINI Black Card, and BMW and MINI Service Online.
BMW Group Malaysia’s move is an interesting one and it remains to be seen whether it will have an effect on the rest of the industry. It could be a smart move that customers appreciate, or it might be viewed negatively. Nevertheless, with the trade-off being a lower purchase price for the vehicle, there may be positive response at this time when many people give more serious consideration to how much they can or should spend on a new vehicle.
Since being introduced in Malaysia in 2018, the MINI Cooper S Countryman Sports has been among the more popular variants in the MINI range sold locally. In fact, it accounted for 75% of total MINI deliveries in 2019.
For buyers who want something extra and different with their Countryman Sports and for these customers, MINI Malaysia now offered two limited-edition models. These are the Countryman Sports with Blackline Package and the Countryman Sports with Panoramic Sunroof.
The Countryman Sports with Blackline Package has a sportier and more stylistic appearance, featuring previously chromed elements such as the front grille and MINI emblems now in the elegant Piano Black offering.

MINI TwinPower Turbo
Both cars are powered by the same 2-litre MINI TwinPower Turbo engine which generates 192 ps/280Nm. This output reaches the front wheels through a 7-speed Dual Clutch Sports automatic transmission. Pedal to the floor, the 0 to 100 km/h time can be done in a claimed 7.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 225 km/h.
To improve fuel economy, there’s an engine start/stop function which activates when the car is going to idle for a while. It can automatically restart when it’s time to move off. Additionally, the coasting function in both the MID and GREEN driving modes also helps reduce fuel consumption as the drivetrain is decoupled upon deceleration.
Interior design language
The interior design language employs black as the dominant theme. Besides the Anthracite headliner, there are the Sport Seats upholstered in Cross Punch leather in Carbon Black. A touch of sophistication is offered via the new John Cooper Works Interior Surface in Piano Black.
For those who want high-quality music reproduction, the Countryman Sports comes with a Speaker Harman Kardon Sound System that has no less than 12 high-performance speakers. Enhancement comes from the 360W DSP Amplifier and Class-D technology.
The car also has a built-in 4G SIM card and owners can also connect their iPhone wirelessly and use the MINI Visual Boost to access numerous features on the phone with Apple CarPlay. Wireless Charging is also available for compatible smartphones.
The Countryman is the biggest MINI ever offered which mean it has more space within. The volume of cargo space is generous and with folding rear seats, it can be expanded as needed.
An 8.8-inch MINI Navigation System comes standard to provide route guidance. And with the latest MINI Connected, there is access to a wide range of digital services such as the Intelligent Emergency Call, MINI TeleServices and Remote Services.
What else an owner gets
As with other MINIs sold in Malaysia, there’s a 5-year Roadside Assistance programme with a comprehensive list of services. These include a 24-Hour, 365-days-a-year Accident and Help on the Phone and On the Spot Hotline, Free Towing Services and when needed (over 200 kms from residential home), Replacement Vehicle, Seamless Mobility, Accommodation, Mobility Services Solutions as well as Repatriation services.
The Countryman Sports with Blackline Package is priced at RM243.280.38 while the Countryman Sports with Panoramic Sunroof is RM247,280.38 (both prices with Sales Tax exemption till the end of 2020 but without insurance).
For those who requiring financing for their purchase, BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia offers schemes starting from RM2,778.00 per month, based on estimates of 80% loan on a 5-year tenure (terms and conditions apply).
Following the launch of the MINI Electric last month, MINI Malaysia now offers the First Edition and only 15 people in Malaysia will be able to own one. First Edition models are usually produced in limited runs and come with exclusive or unique features.
In the case of the MINI Electric First Edition, priced from RM238,380.78, there are bespoke side scuttles and door sills which identify each unit as ‘ONE OF FIFTEEN’. An all-new exterior colour, Yours Enigmatic Black, almost makes it debut with this special edition. 17-inch Power Spoke two-tone wheels come with run flat tyres.
MINI Yours appointments
The interior has MINI Yours Walknappa Leather Lounge Upholstery and Walknappa Leather-wrapped steering wheel. At night, the MINI Yours Illuminated Interior Surface lights up from a choice of 12 ambient light colours. Additionally, the Panorama Glass Roof enhances the sense of openness day or night.
ELECTRIC-specific features
The Electric version has its own specific features such as the Electric Cockpit Fascia, Electric Start/Stop button in Yellow, Electric velour floor mats, an electronic selector lever with Electric design, as well as the brake energy recuperation toggle. The driver can refer to the Head-Up Display or the Digital Instrument Cluster which displays key information like speed, range, state of charge of the battery.
The body colour features its front blade and aero-optimised mirror caps in Energetic Yellow. The front-axle electric motor generates 135 kw/184 hp, drawing energy from a 12-module T-shaped battery pack with a net capacity of 28.9 kWh. Peak torque is 270 Nm which is available from the moment the car moves off, providing zippy performance with a claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds.
Up to 270 kms of range
With a single-speed transmission and integrated differential, the MINI Electric First Edition can reach a claimed maximum speed of 150 km/h and depending on driving conditions and style, travel for up to 270 kms on a fully-charged battery pack.
Recharging a fully empty battery pack requires approximately 36 minutes to reach 80% capacity when recharging at a DC charging station. Similarly, the MINI Wallbox Plus provides an 80% charge in just two and half hours. At home, recharging can be done in 12 hours using a household power supply. Of course, most owners would not run the battery till it’s completely empty so the actual time required may not be as long.
It’s our nation’s Merdeka again soon and to celebrate the 63rd year of independence, MINI Malaysia has started its ‘Add Independence’ campaign. It consists of specially curated programmes which relate to the Countryman model, with different variants to choose from.

Brand’s largest model
The Countryman is the brand’s largest model and now in its second generation. While it takes its name from the original model sold in the 1960s, it is classified as a crossover SUV. Compared to a 5-door MINI, it is 294 mm longer, 95 mm wider and 132 mm taller.
Its size provides generous cabin space and comfortable accommodation for 5 persons and their holiday or recreational gear. The low bootlid can serve as a picnic bench while also make for easier access into the cargo space which can be expanded up to 1,390 litres.
4 variants, 3 powertrain choices
MINI Malaysia offers four variants of the Countryman with three powertrain choices, one of which is a plug-in hybrid. The most powerful version with a 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine has claimed 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.
As would be expected of a car with the character of a MINI, customers have a variety of colours to choose from. Prices for the 2020 model year Countryman start from RM220,741, after deducting the sales tax (exemption applicable only till the end of this year).
