CRT Community Charity Initiatives’ latest monthly feeding programme in the Masjid India area of KL, was held on 2nd Feb 2019. This street feeding idea was mooted with the help of Rukshan Munesinghe, the Director of My Classic Cars, Malaysia as part of its quarterly feeding initiative to give back to the less fortunate with a sumptuous meal.

Christopher Ravin, Founder of CCI says, “One way of sharing our joy is helping those in need sincerely as nowadays less and less NGO’s are providing feeding to the homeless.” CRT Community Charity Initiatives Berhad (CCI), is privately run welfare foundation, which was set up in 2005 by Christopher Ravin and family, with the objective of carrying out charitable initiatives in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand & India for the homeless and the needy.

Besides feeding initiatives they provide medical aid, education scholarships, build ashrams, animal welfare, regular feeding programs for Orang Asli and for Tamil school children, home rental aid for elderly folks, donations for various charitable organisations.

“We have been carrying out our initiatives quietly for 2 decades, initially we were financially supporting various charitable organisations, up till the point we realised their administrative fee was too high and only a very small portion was allocated for the needy. In addition we got deceived along the way, which was why CRT Community Charity Initiatives Berhad was formed to carry out our own initiatives.”CCI.

“The reason we invited the media is because we wanted to highlight that there has been a significant drop in feeding programmes by various NGO’s since June 2018 and our aim is to encourage those blessed with good fortune and the younger generation to extend aid to the needy. For further information please refer to www.ccinitiatives.org.” said Chris Ravin.

Now here’s something that I personally feel every Motorshow should have, a section for classic cars! I don’t think I’m the only classic car fan to visit KLIMS (or any motorshow for that matter) so let’s keep this going!

Nice one Rukshan and friends @ MyClassic Cars (<– link to their FB page)good show!

To the organisers of KLIMS, please provide better lighting next time. Like I’ve always said, ‘if you’re gonna do it, do it well’.Chris Wee.

The Maserati cars taking part in the event include: the A6 1500 Berlinetta designed by Pininfarina and built in 1949 – the first Maserati road model, a sports car intended for gentlemen drivers, with a “1500” engine that provided the basis for Maserati racing and road cars of the following years, starting with the A6 GCS; and a Quattroporte built in 1968 – a car that marked a milestone in the history of Maserati, since the first Quattroporte generation, in 1963, created a completely new market segment, that of the luxury sports sedan. Maserati will also be opening the parade of over 300 teams taking part in the GP Nuvolari by organising the Maserati Tribute, a “race within the race”, with the cars in the current range – the Quattroporte flagship, the Ghibli sports sedan and the Levante SUV – lining up on the front row.

“We are delighted to be Main Partner of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, which commemorates legendary Mantua-born driver Tazio Nuvolari, who won major victories with Maserati,” commented Umberto Cini, General Manager Maserati EMEA Region. “It gives us great pleasure to drive Trident brand cars over more than 1000 kms of roads unrivalled anywhere in the world, through beautiful Italian landscapes, in a unique blend of history, passion and tradition, all values expressed to the full by Maserati, which is also proud to reaffirm its role as international ambassador for Italian excellence.”

The 2018 edition of the GP Nuvolari, held this year for the 28th time, offers a new-look route with the first stage from Mantua across the Po Valley and the Apennines to the Adriatic Riviera, the second stage from Rimini through the beautiful landscapes of Tuscany, Umbria and Marche regions and back to Rimini, and the third stage from the Adriatic Sea through the towns and cities of Emilia Romagna to the finishing line in Mantua.

The eagerly anticipated inaugural Fullerton Concours d’Elegance has come to a close, and what an epic event it was. A unique three-day celebration to mark the 90th Anniversary of the Fullerton
Building, home to The Fullerton Hotel Singapore, it took place from 29th June to 1st July 2018 across The Fullerton Heritage precinct.

The iconic building was gazetted as a National Monument on 7th December 2015 in recognition of its pivotal role in Singapore’s history. Built in 1928, the Grande Dame has borne witness to many historical events and milestones.

All roads lead to the Fullerton Building…
Paying tribute to the Fullerton Building’s roots as ‘Mile Zero’, the point of reference for measuring all road distances in Singapore, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore unveiled a commemorative plaque, which was embedded into the hotel grounds during the Opening Ceremony. Measuring 1.2 metres, the plaque features the milestone system adopted circa 1909, with the Fullerton Building marked as ‘Mile Zero’, from which key roads and other milestones were mapped out.

The location of the plaque is especially significant, as it is located at the former entrance of the General Post Office. The unveiling ceremony was graced by Guest of Honour Mr Lim Eng Hwee, CEO of the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Deputy Chairman of Sino Group, Mr Daryl Ng. Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Chairman of Sino Group Daryl Ng said, ‘The Fullerton Building is an iconic location which holds a special place in the nation’s history, and in the hearts of people of Singapore. It has served as a key point of reference for Singapore 90 years ago, and has been a part of various milestones in this nation. The plaque is engraved with an old milestone map of Singapore and pinpoints significant markers. No matter the distance one has travelled, no matter the length of time, we continue to welcome guests and invite them to create special memories of the Grande Dame with our 90th anniversary celebration and the Fullerton Concours d’Elegance.’

Ever thought of buying a car for investment purposes? Most naysayers will have you believe that purchasing a vehicle with the sole intention of selling it on for a profit, is a waste of time. But in actual fact, not only is that possible, but certain enthusiasts have managed to turn the idea into a profitable business.

The key is to purchase a vehicle that has a certain value, the same value that may appreciate overtime. This depends on certain factors that include rarity, desirability and driving enjoyment. This is what hpi, a UK based automotive data company plans on accomplishing. They have listed 10 classic cars that may increase in value in the not so distant future.

Motoring expert Clive Owen has shortlisted these cars based on the following criteria: cheap to acquire, are holding their values and could potentially become future collectors’ items. The list of said vehicles are:

  • Vauxhall VX 220
  • Peugeot 205 GTi
  • Audi TT MKI 3.2
  • BMW Z3
  • Citroen C6
  • Rover Mini
  • Alfa Romeo GTV
  • Nissan Cube
  • Mazda RX8

Regarding the topic, Owen said, “Classic cars have shot up in value over the last few years and in many cases represent a great investment opportunity. Classics in particular are snapped up by collectors and enthusiasts, so prices are constantly on the rise.”

He added, “The trick is how best to spot trends before they take place and maybe even try to redefine what is actually recognized as a classic. Future classics don’t necessarily have to be decades old, luxurious or expensive to begin with.”

Apart from vehicular investment advice, hpi also offers online vehicle evaluations services allowing consumers the ability to buy and sell cars with confidence. Adding to that, it also provides potential buyers with ownership costs over a vehicle’s lifespan and precise depreciation figures.

This year’s Classic Car Auctions in the UK has recorded a very good turn out. About 80% of the vehicles that rolled onto the auction block were sold, which roughly equates to £6.1 million (RM3.4 million) worth of cars. This result is a testament to the demand for classic cars and evidently CCA’s best year yet.

Though demand across the board was quite strong, the ones that garnered the most interest were the 1980s Porches. The most expensive, a 1989 911 Carrera Supersport (SSE) sold for £71,500 (RM391,162), which was more than £11,000 (RM60,179) over the estimate.

“What a fantastic way to end the year!” said Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions’ sales manager. “Demand for ‘everyman’ classics remains incredibly strong and we’re delighted to have achieved some great prices for our vendors.”

He later added, We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in one of our sales in 2017 and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.”

Later on, a 1985 911 3.2 SSE Targa was sold for a similar figure at £68,750 (RM376,118). These were two of nine Porsches successfully sold during the auction. and besides Porsche, several Fast Fords caused some waves at the auction as well, with 10 of them successfully sold.

A concours condition 1987 Sierra RS Cosworth sold for £37,950 (RM207,617), a 1986 Escort RS Turbo Series I which fetched £10,120 (RM55,364) and a 1983 Escort RS1600i which sold for £9,900 (RM54,161). Then, a pristine 1987 Volkswagen Golf GTi convertible, formerly owned by Sir David Jason OBE, sold for £17,820 (RM97,490).

Considered rubbish during that era, 1980s cars are starting to gain popularity especially among those who were at the time, too young or broke, to afford such vehicles. Cars like the MkII Escort, MkII VW GTI and early generation Skylines are starting to go up in value. And it won’t be long until their prices begin to skyrocket as they become more rare and desirable than before.

Sir Patrick Stewart, a legendary hollywood actor, will be taking part in the upcoming Silverstone Classic. The 76-year old who has starred as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films has just passed his official ARDS racing drivers’ test.

This means that he is now eligible to compete in a special Celebrity Challenge Trophy Race at Silverstone in July of this year. Drivers will be piloting competition-prepared Austin A30 and A35 sedans harking back to the late 1950s. The race will be split into two parts, the owners of the Austins will qualify on Friday and race on Sunday. The celebrities on the other hand, will go wheel-to-wheel in their classic rides on Saturday.

The reason why these classic cars were adopted for this racing series a few years ago by the Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC) as a cost-effective route to historic racing. More than 50 cars have been built so far, which should make for an exciting race come July.

Speaking of passing his driver test, Sir Patrick Stewart, said, “It was a lot of fun. For someone who has followed motor racing since being a teenager, to drive around Silverstone and negotiate such legendary corners as Becketts and Stowe is just such a thrill.”

Other celebrities who will be taking part in the Silverstone race include Olympic gold medalists Mark Hunter MBE, Jason Kenny CBE, Greg Searle MBE, Jonny Searle MBE and Amy Williams MBE, bike racing world champions Wayne Gardner and Freddie Spencer, former England test cricket captain Mike Gatting OBE, Dragon’s Den TV star Theo Paphitis, former Top Gear presenter Tiff Needell, Wheeler Dealer’s Ant Anstead and adventurer Charley Boorman.

Silverstone in July will be amazing for those living in the UK, and hopefully, for Sir Patrick Stewart as well. Stay tuned and we will let you know more as soon as we find out.
