EU Melancarkan Geran $1 Bilion untuk Memperkukuh Industri Bateri EV Domestik

Kesatuan Eropah (EU) telah melancarkan inisiatif geran $1 bilion untuk memperkuat industri bateri kenderaan elektrik (EV) di rantau ini. Langkah ini adalah sebahagian daripada strategi yang lebih luas untuk mengurangkan pergantungan kepada komponen buatan China dan memupuk pengeluaran domestik teknologi tenaga bersih. Dengan keperluan penyumberan yang ketat, dana tersebut bertujuan membantu EU mencapai matlamat iklimnya secara bebas sambil membina kapasiti pengeluaran yang lebih mampan.

Inisiatif ini bertujuan:

Meningkatkan daya tahan rantaian bekalan tenaga bersih di Eropah.
Mengurangkan pergantungan kepada bahan mentah dari China, seperti katod dan anod, yang merupakan komponen penting dalam bateri EV.
Melindungi harta intelek, dengan mewajibkan semua paten daripada projek yang dibiayai didaftarkan di negara anggota EU.

EU Invests $1 Billion to Strengthen Domestic EV Battery Industry and Reduce Dependence on China

The European Union has announced a $1 billion grant initiative aimed at strengthening its electric vehicle (EV) battery industry, as part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on Chinese components and foster domestic production. The funding, which is tied to strict sourcing requirements, seeks to boost the region’s capacity to produce clean energy technologies while ensuring the EU can meet its climate goals independently.

The initiative is central to the EU’s efforts to build a resilient supply chain for clean energy, with a particular focus on EV battery manufacturing. One key aspect of the program is its emphasis on limiting reliance on Chinese-sourced materials, such as cathodes and anodes, and ensuring that any new patents resulting from funded projects are registered within EU member states to protect critical intellectual property.

Volkswagen Faces Challenges Amid Revamp of EV Lineup and Strategy Shift

It’s a turbulent period for German automaker Volkswagen as it contends with major economic pressures. In North America, management reshuffles have dominated headlines, while globally, the company is implementing plant closures, wage reductions, and layoffs to save billions of dollars. Despite these hurdles, Volkswagen is charting a path forward, starting with significant updates to its electric vehicle (EV) lineup and platforms.

Revamping the Electric Future

At the LA Auto Show, Volkswagen’s Head of Research & Development, Kai Grünitz, outlined the company’s roadmap for a revamped all-electric lineup. Central to this effort is the Modular Electric (MEB) platform, which underpins models such as the ID.4 and the recently launched ID. Buzz van. Grünitz promised “huge improvements” to the platform, including a fresh design language that aims to bring the brand closer to its roots and revive its appeal.

The first step in this journey is the production-ready ID.2all, a compact EV concept unveiled in 2023. Initially slated for a 2025 release, economic challenges and a slowdown in EV demand have cast uncertainty over its launch schedule. Nonetheless, Volkswagen remains committed to the ID.2all as part of the updated MEB platform, with an accompanying SUV model expected to debut at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025.

Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasised the strategic importance of starting the SSP journey with the Golf:
“We want to begin this journey with a more iconic product. So, we’ll start with the Golf,” Schäfer said.
