Kia has revealed a mid-cycle facelift for the K5 sedan, formerly known as the Optima. While crossovers continue to dominate the market, Kia is committed to updating its sedans, despite the SUV craze.

This update is for the domestic version currently available in South Korea, but the global model is expected to be nearly identical. The K5 has received mild changes, with redesigned headlights and taillights following a trend seen in recent Kia EVs. A new front bumper with larger faux air vents adds a touch of sportiness.

The rear of the K5 gets new exhaust finishers, a notable change on non-GT-Line models. The updated K5 also offers new alloy wheel designs, available in sizes ranging from 16 to 19 inches, including a predominantly black version without the usual metallic accents. Two new body colors, Wolf Gray and Moonscape Matte Gray, join the existing palette.

The cabin sees more significant updates, with the dashboard revised to accommodate two curved screens. The gear lever has been replaced with a small rotary selector, and a fingerprint sensor has been added to the lower center console. The 2025 K5 also features high-resolution front and rear cameras capable of recording and saving footage. Other changes include an enhanced head-up display, additional sound-deadening materials, and increased support for over-the-air updates.

The Kia K5 offers several engine options, including a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 160hp, a turbocharged 1.6-litre unit with 180hp, a 2.0-litre LPI (Liquid Propane Injection) engine rated at 146hp, and a 2.0-litre hybrid with 152hp from the combustion engine and an additional 52hp from the electric motor.

Pricing for the updated K5 starts at 27,840,000 won, which is approximately RM98,000. While crossovers dominate the market, Kia remains committed to its sedans, with the K5 receiving a mild refresh to keep it competitive in the midsize sedan segment.

Back in March of this year, Kia revealed its 2024 EV9 model and it is packed with tons of features including level-three autonomy and clever aerodynamics that reduce drag and thus increase range.

Kia America made an announcement regarding the upcoming 2024 Kia EV9, their premier three-row SUV electric vehicle (EV). This new model, positioned as the brand’s flagship in the EV segment, will begin at a competitive base price of $54,900 (RM258,469). The introductory variant, the EV9 Light RWD, boasts essential features, including DC fast-charging capability, ample seating for up to seven passengers, and SynTex leather-trimmed seats.

Moreover, it rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and offers an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat equipped with heating and ventilation. The heart of the EV9 lies in its seamless permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, delivering a robust performance with 215hp and 349Nm of torque.

Kia introduced the brand-new Kia EV5 compact electric SUV at the Chengu Motor Show in China. As is common for Kia and Hyundai more thorough information about the company’s second zero-emission SUV won’t be made public until October, at the Electric Vehicle (EV) Day event the brand is hosting.

We currently have access to a formal image gallery as well as specific design details scattered throughout the press release. One such element is the addition of a mood lighting system with adjustable brightness levels in the new EV5. Users can choose from a stunning palette of 64 colours, including a group of 10 tones that Kia’s lighting experts have carefully selected.

The manufacturer claims that the mood lighting system, when activated, synchronises with the SUV’s various driving modes, modifies illumination in low-light conditions, and even alerts the driver if the car exceeds the permitted speed limit.

The new special edition Kia EV looks like a bright green EV6 model. Although the car is mostly hidden in the preview, you can still make out its distinct shape and headlights, possibly indicating a signature green EV6 GT version.

Last August, Kia introduced the powerful EV6 GT with 576hp, which can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds. To demonstrate its capability, Kia pitted the EV6 GT against a Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan EVO Spyder, and the EV6 outperformed both of them at the starting line.

According to reports coming out of the United States, a recently filed nationwide class-action lawsuit centres on how quickly Hyundai Group electric vehicles can truly charge when plugged in at home and a tendency to overheat. Plaintiffs contend that a flaw in the plug port causes it to overheat when the car is charging at level 2, significantly delaying the rate at which energy is recovered.

Owner complaints, recordings illustrating the alleged flaw, and the Hyundai Group’s own efforts to fix the issue are all included in the lawsuit as supporting evidence of a problem for which owners are entitled to be compensated in the Central District of California United States District Court.

In order to build a network of 30,000 new EV fast-charging stations, seven major manufacturers have joined forces. The first chargers are expected to be operational in the United States in the second half of 2024 and in Canada at a later stage thanks to a joint venture by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis.
