Lexus Malaysia

The Lexus LS was the first model introduced by the new premium brand in 1989, aimed squarely at taking on the German luxury car market, particularly the Mercedes-Benz W126, then dubbed ‘The Best Car In The World’. As the flagship of the Lexus range, the LS has always been a technological leader as well as setting and raising benchmarks in its class. Craftsmanship and refinement have been hallmarks of the LS as well as other Lexus models, complemented by the renown ‘Lexus Experience’ offered to owners and would-be owners…

Every Lexus LS is produced at the Lexus factory in Tahara, Japan, by only the most skilled personnel. Since 1989, four generations of the LS have been introduced; each designed to exceed the expectations of customers. Here’s the 360-degree walk-around video of the new LS during the launch recently:

Although initially developed with the American market in mind, the LS has since become a global model sold in 90 countries.

The fifth and latest generation was introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show, after having been ‘previewed’ as the LF-FC concept two years earlier. The new model was developed with the objective of exceeding expectations by delivering a new level of flagship luxury in every aspect. To achieve this, the Lexus team started totally from scratch by re-imagining what a flagship sedan should be, as if launching the brand all over again. See what that means from this video by EVO Aurizn…

Like the LC 500 coupe, the latest LS sits on the GA-L (Global Architecture―Luxury) platform which will be used for all rear-wheel drive models in coming years. The GA-L platform is the stiffest in Lexus history, setting the stage for enhanced handling, ride smoothness and cabin quietness.

For the Malaysian market, three variants of the LS are available – the LS 500 Luxury, LS 500 Executive and LS 500h Executive with a Lexus Hybrid Drive, and prices start at RM799,000. Customers have a choice of up to 11 exterior colours and 6 interior colours/trims (depending on variant).

This generation of the LS sees an all-new twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 engine specifically developed for the model. This engine has an undersquare design for improved thermal efficiency coupled with twin turbochargers, and has benefitted from the company’s technology developed for F1 racing. This new LS engine is indicative of the more dynamic approach being taken by Lexus, offering V8-level power in a more compact package with efficiency and refinement.

The new LS engine offers the output one would expect in a flagship sedan: 310 kW/415 hp with 600 Nm of torque, significantly higher than the previous naturally aspirated 4.6-litre V8 engine, mated to a 10-speed auto transmission,.

The engine’s long stroke, optimized bore-to-stroke ratio, increased valve angle, straight intake ports and laser-clad intake valve seats developed using performance simulations based on F1 technology combine to yield world top-level high-speed combustion technology and thermal efficiency. The twin turbochargers were designed and produced in-house to control tolerances and quality.

Of particular noteworthy mention are the cost-option “Kiriko” Glass door-panel inserts. Only a handful are crafted each month and four panels replete with hand-woven fabric inserts will set you back almost RM100,000. No, that’s not a typo.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT), distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, has announced a Special Service Campaign (SSC) to inspect, and if required, replace the airbag sensor of certain units of the Toyota Corolla Altis, Lexus NX Lexus RX model.

This SSC was announced following the move by Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to start a global Special Service Campaign regarding an Airbag Sensor which was announced on 31st January. Based on information received from TMC, the number affected are 2,800 units of Toyota Corolla Altis, and around 500 units of Lexus NX and Lexus RX. These cars were manufactured from June 2015 to January 2016 and distributed by UMWT and Lexus Malaysia.

The defect relates to manufacturing issues as there are possibilities that the insulation of Integrated Circuit (IC) chips in affected Pressure sensors and G sensors could peel off over time, creating an open circuit in the IC chip.  If this were to occur, the airbag warning light will illuminate. Further, the side/curtain airbags and/or front airbags can become deactivated and will not deploy when required to. This could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of a crash.

TMC is currently working on obtaining the necessary parts for the SSC and when the parts are available, UMWT will notify affected owners to request them to bring their cars to an authorised Toyota or Lexus authorized service centre to make the necessary replacements. The work should take about 30 minutes to 4 hours (depending on model) and while it can all costs involved for the replacement will be borne by UMWT.

Owners of affected cars can contact any authorised Toyota service centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).  For Lexus owners, customers can contact Lexus authorised dealers nationwide or contact its Freephone; 1800 88 53987 (1-800-88-LEXUS) or visit lexus.com.my.

Toyota owners can also visit Toyota’s Special Service Campaign webpage through this link: toyota.com.my to check whether their vehicle is involved, through Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Checker. To those who have uploaded the Toyota Drive Apps, there is also a link to Toyota’s SSC page and the VIN Checker.  Information on other vital SSCs is also available on the webpage.

The evening of 24th January saw a gathering of bon vivant treated to a gastronomical affair, in conjunction with the exclusive preview of Lexus’ new RX 350L and the new NX 300. Scheduled for a February release, patrons of the night were the first in Malaysia to receive an opportunity to get up close and personal with Lexus’ latest luxury crossovers.

Built for greater versatility, the Lexus RX 350L is a combination of functionality, technology, comfort, and luxury. Now with a third row to seat up to seven passengers and ample space to suit diverse lifestyles, the RX 350L enables endless possibilities. The new Lexus NX 300 on the other hand is a standout in the urban jungle. Ramping up its sporty credentials with a distinctive makeover, the NX is a striking blend of sports meets luxury that promises to create a feeling of pure exhilaration without compromising on comfort.

These two vehicles served as a platform for Lexus to host the gathering, where all senses – sight, sound, and taste – were heightened in a night of amazing experiences. Beyond the elegant introduction of its two new luxury crossovers, Lexus remained true to its reputation as the best in hospitality by pampering patrons with culinary delights and memorable mingling. The evening affair was set in the lifestyle hub in the city, The Gasket Alley, where guests were served tasteful cuisines paired with specially concocted drinks created by renowned celebrity chef Sherson Lian (below).

“The splendour of crafted gourmet literally makes life flavourful and is key in creating remarkable experiences. When people are looking for a good time, a delicious dish must accompany that experience – and this is exactly what we at Lexus aim to do. While we are proud makers of bold luxury cars, we are also identified as the best in hospitality. Every element of this night is a demonstration of the values we practise at Lexus, and this is our way of extending an invitation to our guests to truly experience amazing,” said Mr. Ravindran Kurusamy, (below, second from right) President of Lexus Malaysia.

Guests of Lexus were treated to a delectable 8-course canape led by Chef Sherson Lian. As a host chef on the Asian Food Channel, he has received international recognition for his talent and was ever delighted to share the rationale behind every dish and its representation of Lexus. Lian additionally paired his cuisines with complementing cocktail creations, tickling and tantalizing the taste buds of everyone present.

“It is an honour to be a part of this evening with Lexus. The Lexus brand and I share the common goal of providing the best hospitality possible to create unforgettable experiences. Every dish served to tonight was meticulously thought through, and I believe that Lexus’ message of amazing experience marked by culinary gratification was successfully conveyed,” said Lian.

While guests and representatives from Lexus feasted on the exquisite cuisines, the night was also an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build new ones. “We hope that we were able to connect with our guests on a deeper level, and that they were able to experience Lexus’ hospitality at its finest. This evening’s affair is one to remember, as it is the night we introduce our guests to luxury in the form of our new cars, as well as a warm reception,” concluded Mr Ravindran Kurusamy.

This is the first of many events that will take place in 2018, and through these happenings, Lexus will continue to bring its partners, guests, and visitors on a journey to Experience Amazing.

Lexus Malaysia, a division of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, has announced that all authorised Lexus Centres across Malaysia are now accepting orders for its newest flagship luxury sedan, the 2018 LS.

The fifth generation LS reinvents the brand’s take on luxury after a decade, and is said to be a significant step up from its predecessor in terms of platform and powertrain as well as styling and craftsmanship.

Debuting last year at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the 2018 LS features Lexus’ first-ever twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 engine that delivers 415hp coupled with a 10-speed (yes, ten speeds) automatic transmission and an intuitive, predictive steering system – promising pure power, precise handling and excellent efficiency.

The new LS also boasts a finesse design language that pays tribute to the brand’s intricate Japanese craftsmanship. From the outside, Lexus’ new sedan sports a “new silhouette”, which has the appearance and appeal of a four-door coupe but maintains the roominess of a traditional 3 Box design. Its interior is meticulously crafted to feature Kiriko cut glass and a hand pleated door trim – both of which transform according to lighting conditions, creating a one of a kind space that epitomises luxury and elegance.

As far as safety is concerned, the luxury sedan is equipped with the Lexus Safety System – featuring the Pre-Collision System that helps to warn the driver on the possibility of a collision so they may perform an invasive manoeuvre; and the advanced Lane Departure Alert that is capable of detecting boundaries through improved recognition capability to offer continued performance on roads. Here’s a short video on the 2018 Lexus LS:

Proudly designed and manufactured at the brand’s Tahara plant, the 2018 Lexus LS is already a big hit in Japan with pre-orders for the new flagship sedan reaching 9,500 units, or nearly 1,600% higher than the sales goal of 600 units a month.

Closer to home, there has been much talk and anticipation on the luxury sedan with growing interests from Lexus fans, especially among chauffeur-driven top executives – a key market of the 2018 Lexus LS. While the 2018 Lexus LS is scheduled to arrive on Malaysian shores in the first quarter of 2018, customers who wish to be among the first to own Lexus’ newest flagship luxury sedan can now place their bookings at all Lexus Centres nationwide.

The 2018 Lexus LS comes with a comprehensive warranty of five (5) years covering unlimited mileage. Complete aftersales support is available at seven (7) locations around Malaysia where professional technicians with extensive training by Lexus are ready to serve.
