Shell Malaysia

We once took for granted the freedom of being able to drive wherever in the country we wanted to go, whether to balik kampung, have a holiday or just look for new eating places. And then came the Movement Control Order which stopped all interstate crossings as one measure to stop the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Then we realised how much we missed the freedom of travel.

Now that the restrictions are lifted and we can go everywhere again, Malaysians are starting to travel for leisure again. Seemingly to celebrate this, Shell Malaysia is offering its customers RM5 Shell e-vouchers for BonusLink Points collected at Shell stations nationwide in the months of November and December 2021.

The ‘Every Little Point Counts’ campaign, as it is known, applies not just to fuel purchases but for every purchase made at Shell station nationwide. Customers can accelerate their BonusLink Point collection by getting their must-have road trip necessities at Shell stations. Be it big or small, every transaction at a Shell station earns BonusLink Points.

To participate, customers simply need to swipe their BonusLink card or use the BLINK app with any purchase and receive BonusLink Points. Once they accumulate 200 standard points, a RM5 e-voucher will be sent to them on the BLINK app or to the email address which is registered with BonusLink. The e-voucher can be used immediately at any Shell station in Malaysia. It can be redeemed for purchases from as low as 100 points. The Shell voucher for 200 standard BonusLink Points is given once in the month of November and December, respectively

If you do not already have a BonusLink account, you can sign up for one at any Shell station or use the BLINK app that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. First-time users will be rewarded with a RM4 Shell voucher and 100 BonusLink Points as a welcome offer.

Shell Malaysia realizes dreams of local SMEs

Wherever Shell has been operating, it always cares about the communities around it and in Malaysia, Shell Malaysia has constantly been looking for ways to uplift local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In August last year, the company started its “Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell” programme to help local SMEs expand their reach with an opportunity to sell their products through the Shell Select stores located at the stations.

With Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell, Shell looks to partner with SMEs who supply snacks, confectionaries, non-alcoholic beverages, and ready-to-eat meals. The initiative is open for Malaysians aged 18 and above, and the selected SMEs will have the opportunity to promote their products at a national, regional, or specific site listing as decided by Shell.

The company has now announced an expansion of Select store offerings to include products from 29 selected entrepreneurs of the programme, alongside essential groceries available at the stores. Shell Select shelves in Malaysia are now stocked with a wider selection of snacks, confectionaries, non-alcoholic drinks, and ready-to-eat meals from the local SMEs, including Joe Flizzow x deli2go’s gourmet chicken burger, murtabak ayam with lava cheese, murtabak kambing and locally sourced pineapple juice.

In addition, customers can also find essential groceries such as flour, sugar, cooking oil, biscuits, sauces, sardines, noodles, coconut milk, and various beverages. In the spirit of Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, customers can enjoy special promotions at selected Shell stations until the end of this month.

Shell has always opened its doors to local SMEs and provided them with an avenue to promote their products at Shell Select stores. ‘Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell’ will give Malaysian entrepreneurs an extra boost and the opportunity to scale up their businesses. In the month of October this year, Shell Malaysia will be participating in the Ministry of Domestic Trade, and Consumer Affairs Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia to continue to help raise the economic prosperity of SMEs in Malaysia.

“We’re happy to welcome on board the entrepreneurs of ‘Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell‘. We currently have 29 local partners selected through the programme that are supplying their products to Shell Select stores, among which include newly appointed Shell Private Label local partners. This, ‘for Malaysians by Malaysians’ effort exemplifies our commitment to meet the daily needs of our community, which combine local SMEs’ innovative offerings and our extended essential groceries of quality and variety,” said Seow Lee Ming, General Manager Mobility, Malaysia & Singapore.

Ms. Seow also gave assurance that the well-being of customers is a No.1 priority for the company. “We strive to provide a safe and comfortable environment at our stations with strict SOPs while continuously improving our products and services in line with our commitment to make life’s journey better. Kita jaga kita,” he said.

The Shell outlet that does not sell fuel or lubricants

Shell Malaysia and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Malaysia today hosted a virtual forum in conjunction with the launch of Shell Malaysia’s “The Tree, The Sky, The Sun: A Pathway towards Malaysia’s Carbon Neutral Future”.

The Tree, The Sky, The Sun tells the story of how Malaysia could reach for the sky – becoming carbon-neutral by 2065 – with its unique advantages of tree and sun. Shell’s story illustrates a technically possible yet challenging pathway for this country to meet the goal of the Paris Agreement to keep the rise in global average temperature to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with a stretch goal of 1.5°C.

Developed by Shell in consultation with key local stakeholders, Shell’s pathway forum gathered more than 1,500 participants and stakeholders from the government, private sector, media, academia, non-governmental organisations, and energy consumers. The launch also saw a roundtable discussion by the CEO Action Network, featuring energy leaders and representatives from Shell, The Ministry of Environment and Water, Climate Governance Malaysia, and Boston Consulting Group.

Becoming a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050
“It is exciting to see Malaysia having open and more transparent discussions on the true scale of the climate challenge and the actions needed for achieving carbon-neutrality. By publishing The Tree, The Sky, The Sun, Shell hopes to contribute to the national conversation about Malaysia’s energy transition and to the framing of the nation’s priorities in the run-up to COP26 and beyond. This is in line with the global ambition embodied in Shell’s Powering Progress strategy to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050,” said Ivan Tan, Chairman of Shell Malaysia.

The Tree, The Sky, The Sun combines policy-making with science-based targets to help us all see the benefits and opportunities of a sustainable future more clearly. The support of everyone – from energy producers to energy consumers – will be critical for achieving the milestones described by Shell’s aspirational pathway. We hope today’s gathering will spur more informed conversations about how we can all contribute towards building a carbon-neutral energy system for Malaysia and the world,” explained Marco Winter, Executive Director of MDBC.

5 significant influences to moderate emissions
The pathway described by The Tree, The Sky, The Sun highlights 5 critical ‘increase levers’ that are likely to have the greatest influence on moderating carbon emissions in Malaysia. These levers are: 1) the increase in forest acreage and density; 2) the introduction and gradual increase in the carbon price; 3) the emphasis on energy efficiency; 4) the greater push for electrification; and 5) a more widespread use of renewables, especially solar energy.

Solar has become the country’s single largest source of energy, as coal has been phased out. Factories like this one in Selangor make substantial use of solar energy which is available in abundance with our tropical sunshine.

Shell’s aspirational pathway reveals that the Malaysian energy system of 2065 will look significantly different from today. The economy-wide transformation required to achieve a carbon-neutral state will be underpinned by carbon pricing, or the external cost of carbon, which is phased in starting from 2026, the commencement year of the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026 – 2030). This drives reallocation of capital and resources toward low-carbon and energy-efficient choices.

Renewable energy sources to dominate by 2065
By 2065, renewable sources of energy will dominate a deeply electrified energy system. Solar has become the country’s single largest source of energy, coal has been phased out, while the remaining natural gas in the energy mix acts primarily as a means of supporting the use of renewable energy sources. Biofuel has displaced oil as the preferred liquid fuel for transportation and is used increasingly to meet the demand of difficult-to-electrify sectors such as aviation and shipping.

Reforestation of Malaysia’s land mass can capture up to 29 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

Gains in energy efficiency lead to a marginal increase in the country’s final energy demand, despite healthy economic growth during this period. Any remaining emissions from the energy system are removed by nature or technology – reforestation of an additional 5.8% of Malaysia’s land mass can capture up to 29 million tonnes of CO2 each year, effectively bringing forward Malaysia’s carbon-neutral date by 15 years to 2065.

Major shift required
Ultimately, the point at which Malaysia achieves carbon-neutrality depends on how aggressively these levers discussed are pursued in steering the economy towards a more sustainable post-pandemic recovery. Other pathways are possible and depend on societal and policy preferences, but a major shift in how society produces and consumes energy is required to limit the rise in global temperature and address the risks of climate change.

Crucially, it will take robust policy frameworks and more open public engagement to create societal support for action and enable the development of lower-carbon solutions and green technologies. Strong collaboration across government, business, and society will be crucial to make progress at the pace required for Malaysia’s energy system to be carbon-neutral by 2065.

Toyota Mobility Foundation’s CATCH offers two solutions to address Kuala Lumpur’s mobility and city planning challenges

The National Vaccination Program in Malaysia is free of charge.

A Shell outlet that doesn’t sell fuel or lubricants? That’s pretty unusual but there is actually such a place. It’s Shell Malaysia’s first stand-alone deli out of the Shell retail stations and it’s located at the Abdullah Hukum LRT station in Kuala Lumpur (at the end of Jalan Bangsar where the New Pantai Expressway.NPE starts).

This is the first of Shell’s initiatives to go beyond the forecourt of its station network to give Malaysians a convenient ‘pit-stop’ during their daily commutes to ‘refuel’ themselves. At the deli by Shell, as the outlet is known, they can have a warm meal, caffeine boost, or a quick bite.

Explaining the new development, Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd said: “As a mobility retailer, we are constantly innovating with the customer at the heart of our decision-making. We’re looking after not just vehicles, but people on their journey. As people’s busy lives require even more on the move convenience, we took this bold step to offer convenience and great food and drinks to commuters beyond our stations”.

Designed to provide extra convenience to Malaysians in their daily commutes, deli by Shell offers meals and beverages on-the-go featuring Shell’s signature deli2go delicacies, as well as local favourites including nasi lemak bungkus, ikan bilis doughnut, and Buttermilk Chicken rice bowl. There are than 20 food items on the current menu, including combos that provide a drink as well.

“LRT riders can now enjoy extra convenience at deli by Shell amidst their busy schedules. We want customers to enjoy Malaysian comfort food, whether it is a hot cup of Kopi O or a pack of freshly prepared nasi lemak. Shell strives to provide customers with that extra ‘oomph’!” he said.

Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell aims to give support to aspiring SME entrepreneurs

Shell FuelSave 95 is a high quality, proven petrol with robust capabilities that deliver extra kilometres. Now, with Shell Malaysia’s latest brand campaign – Shell FuelSave 95 Ekstra Kilometre, Ternyata Berbeza – motorists are invited to take a refreshed look at its Shell FuelSave 95 proposition.

Benefits of Shell FuelSave 95
Designed with DYNAFLEX technology, Shell FuelSave 95 saves fuel with reduced friction by up to 90% in critical engine parts to maximize fuel economy. At the same time, it also keeps the engine clean with up to 95% of deposit formation prevented. Finally, there is the extra protection available against wear, corrosion, and deposit build-up, thanks to its ‘Triple Action’ formula.

These key benefits align closely with the findings from a consumer study which revealed that Malaysians chose ‘better mileage’ and ‘cost-savings’ as their top considerations for a quality maingrade fuel. Taking a leaf from the study, Shell Malaysia embarked on the refreshed brand campaign to give Malaysians what they asked for in top quality maingrade fuels: extra kilometres without extra cost.

Invitation to experience
“We place customers at the heart of everything we do; all our fuels are developed with their needs in mind. With the current COVID-19 pandemic affecting many Malaysian households financially, we resonate strongly with our customers and understand that a little extra goes a long way. Shell FuelSave 95 aspires to deliver instant fuel economy from the very first drop and is the smart choice for customers. But don’t take my word for it, try it today and experience for yourself the difference of Extra!” said Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn. Bhd.

To initiate the launch of the campaign, Shell treated Malaysians to a campaign teaser video showcasing not all fuels are created the same, while highlighting Shell’s promise of Extra. There will be more engaging content in this campaign, including a heart-warming TVC that follows the story of a loving Dad who takes care of his baby, with the help of Shell FuelSave 95.

To make the journey extra rewarding, Shell Malaysia has partnered with BonusLink to give customers up to 4X Points whenever they spend a minimum of RM50 to refuel at Shell.

Most motorists will leave it to the authorised service centres maintain their vehicles to provide the right engine oil specified and approved by the manufacturer. Some of these engine oils have specific formulations with high quality components and additives that enable the engines to run at their best.

For those who are no longer bound by warranty conditions of the manufacturer which usually require them to use the engine oil supplied by the authorised service centre, Shell Malaysia offers a premium quality oil with proven performance – the new Shell Helix Professional range.

Shell Helix Ultra Professional

For demanding requirements
While the existing Shell Helix Ultra range caters to the wide and varied needs of the mainstream consumer market, Helix Professional is specially tailored to meet the demanding requirements and specifications of a select group of car engine manufacturers.

According to Shell Lubricants General Manager for Malaysia and Singapore, Nyon Kam Yew, the new Shell Helix Professional range enables the car manufacturers’ official service centres and specialist workshops to deliver more value via customised service packages to benefit their customers.

“This is yet another innovative solution from Shell, the top lubricant supplier in the world for the past 13 consecutive years and the largest provider of finished lubricants to automakers. With the new Shell Helix Professional range, these businesses can now incorporate a genuine, premium quality engine oil with proven performance from a trusted brand in special value service packages,” he said.

Two grades, fully synthetic
The Helix Professional range is available with two grades – Helix Ultra Professional ABB 5W-40 and Helix HX7 Professional SN 5W-30. Developed for high performance petrol and diesel engines, the fully synthetic Helix Ultra Professional ABB 5W-40 is formulated with Shell’s proprietary PurePlus Technology that uses a 99.5% pure base oil made from natural gas.

Both engine oils also have Shell’s Active Cleansing Technology to keep the engine close to factory-cleanliness. This technology provides resistance to physical and chemical degradation and prevents build-up of performance-robbing deposits. The wear and corrosion protection is also superior, even in extreme operating conditions.

Besides maintaining performance at high level, the engine oils provide enhanced fuel economy as well as superior sludge and wear protection to keep maintenance costs low.

3 months ago, during the Ramadan period, Shell Malaysia created opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to sell their delicacies at Shell stations. The nationwide initiative involving 950 stations, was aimed at supporting local and small-time food vendors by providing them an avenue to market their goods, especially during the difficult time this year.

A new initiative by Shell Malaysia will enable SMEs with relevant products to sell them at the stations.

Now the petroleum company is again giving support to SMEs with a new initiative that encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to realise their dreams. Known as Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell, the Shell initiative is designed to help local SMEs expand their reach with an opportunity to sell their products through the Shell Select stores located at the stations.

The initiative is part of Shell’s continuous effort to serve and drive impact to communities while increasing its product offers in store.

“Shell Malaysia has a long-lasting commitment in making life’s journeys better for our customers and the communities where we operate. The positive outcome of our past partnerships with local SMEs have inspired us to launch Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell. This initiative is one of our contributing roles to raise the economic prosperity of SMEs in Malaysia and bolster the entrepreneurial economy, especially during this unprecedented time. We have worked on many collaborations with SMEs in the past, and it is inspiring to see the quality of products our local SMEs bring to the table,” said Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.

Shell has always opened its doors to local SMEs and provided them with an avenue to promote their products at Shell Select stores. For instance, Zainon Salleh, who runs a humble keropok business in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, received the Private Label Contract with Shell earlier this year and her keropok is now available nationwide.

Zainon Salleh’s small keropok business in Kelantan has grown, thanks to Shell choosing her as one of the suppliers for its station stores.

“When I first made my keropok, marketing it to local shops in my hometown was a challenge. Through Shell’s help, I can now see my products reaching more people in all parts of the country. I am truly grateful to Shell for not just giving me this opportunity but for also enabling me in providing a source of income for other women through my business,” she said.

With Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell, Shell looks to partner with SMEs who supply snacks, confectionaries, non-alcoholic beverages, and ready-to-eat meals. SMEs are encouraged to take this opportunity to register their businesses and stand a chance to place their products under the Private Label Contract with Shell. This initiative is open for Malaysians aged 18 and above whose businesses must be registered and have a valid business registration number.

This initiative will award three deserving SMEs with a Private Label Contract with Shell that consists of a permanent store offering in Shell Select stores nationwide. On top of that, 27 other SMEs will also have the opportunity to promote their products at a national, regional, or specific site listing as decided by Shell.

Aspiring SME owners can find more information and submit their entries online at www.shell.com.my/MalaysianDream from now until September 11. 2020. Entries will be evaluated according to the product quality, innovation, and distribution capabilities of the business. In addition to this, Shell invites Malaysians to vote for the products that deserve to be on Select shelves nationwide on the ‘Realisasi Impianmu Bersama Shell’ website.

Shell’s Helix range of engine oils have been in the market since the 1980s and over the years, the formulation has constantly been improved as engine technology advanced and driving conditions changed. For motorists, the ability to protect and lubricate well has long been proven and Helix is a trusted product.

Now Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd has introduced two new Helix engine oils that focus more on the benefits to users and less on technical specifications, making it easier to choose the right engine oil based on one’s driving style and needs. Compatible with all 0W, 5W or 10W specification oils, both lubricants are suitable for most types of vehicles on Malaysian roads today.

Shell Helix Power and Protect

Engine oils are traditionally `low involvement’ products. While Malaysians are known for their love for cars, the majority are put off by technical terms and tend to leave their vehicles’ maintenance, especially the critical oil change process, to their workshops or service centres.

“With the new Shell Helix Power and Shell Helix Protect, we aim to return the important engine oil decision-making to the car owners.  As the products’ names suggest, one gives you more power and the other gives you more protection. Simply choose one that suits your driving style or needs,” said Nyon Kam Yew, Shell Lubricants General Manager for Malaysia and Singapore.

With PurePlus Technology, an ultra-pure base oil made from natural gas, the new Helix Power and Helix Protect are specially designed to cater to two main driving environments – highways and rugged terrain – where there is a demand more power and acceleration; and stop-start traffic in cities that put engines under tremendous stress, thereby needing more protection.

Driving conditions
The new Shell Helix oils can provide better protection in congested city conditions or performance even in off-road conditions.

Priced at RM280 for a 4-litre pack, Helix Power has special performance-focused additives help to maximise engine power and enable faster acceleration as well as smoother drives. The engine protection-focused additives in Helix Protect help cleanse engine components for longer engine life in cars that operate under stressful stop-start driving conditions in urban centres. The recommended retail price is RM240 for a 4-litre pack.

As low viscosity fully synthetic engine oils, both lubricants can flow faster to coat and protect key moving engine components during start-up. This can contribute to less wear from cold starts, better fuel economy, lower carbon emissions and lower maintenance costs from longer oil drain intervals.

“The new Shell Helix Power and Shell Helix Protect are smarter and more sustainable choices that reflect Shell’s commitment to provide more and cleaner energy solutions in a responsible way,” Mr. Nyon added.

In conjunction with the launch of these new products, Shell Malaysia will give every customer a free replica Scuderia Ferrari racing car with the purchase of a 4-litre pack of Helix Power or Helix Protect from any participating workshop. The offer is on while stocks last.

Shell Untuk Pasaran Malaysia

Official Shell Helix products suited for the Malaysian market conditions have the ‘Untuk Pasaran Malaysia’ labels. The front label can be peeled back to reveal a unique QR code for quick product authentication while the label at the back features information in English and Bahasa Malaysia. The QR code also enables easy registration for the Shell Advantage Rewards (SHARE) programme that rewards customers with goodies that include a sign-up bonus, Shell Helix Engine Warranty (SHEW) and free Shell Helix products (terms and conditions apply).

Siti Zubaidah, Shell Station retailer in Pontian, Johor, invited Azizah, a local vendor to sell her kuih at the station. “When I was informed about the #RamadanWithShell campaign, Azizah’s offering came to mind. Her spread of local kuih is delicious and I was extremely excited to provide her a platform to sell her Ramadan delicacies,” said Zubaidah.

“With the Movement Control Order which can make it difficult for small businesses like mine to thrive, this initiative by Shell is a welcome help as I am able to continue selling my kuih here at the Shell Station,” said Azizah, a single mother with 5 kids. “I am extremely thankful to Puan Zubaidah and Shell for inviting me to sell my selections of local kuih during this Ramadan month.”

Part-time vendor Mazlan and his 14-year-old son Mohd Alif Mazlan has been able to sell many bottles of sugarcane juice at a Shell station too. “In the beginning, we were rather worried for this year’s Ramadan. Every year, we would sell air tebu at the local Ramadan bazaar, and things looked bleak this year without the yearly Ramadan bazaar. Thankfully, with the Shell initiative, we are able to sell about 30-40 bottles a day at Shell Station Inderapura in Kuantan, Pahang. Thanks to Shell for helping us through this difficult time and providing us the avenue to promote our product.”

“At Shell, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Now more so than ever, with the uncertainties and unpredictability brought about by COVID-19, we need to hold steadfast to the values that define us as an organization and enables us to contribute back to Malaysians,” said Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.

“Our latest initiative allows us to help our fellow Malaysians carry on conducting their businesses. We believe in doing things that matter and, at the same time, we try to make a difference in the lives of those we serve,” he added.

While most Malaysians are staying at home during this period of the Movement Control Order (MCO), there are also many who are in essential services who are working daily. Apart from the brave and dedicated frontliners in the healthcare services, there are also those who ensure that supplies of food, equipment, materials and other essential items are not disrupted.

These are the truck drivers who have to collect the goods from the port or warehouses and then drive long distances across the country. No doubt their journeys are different now with less traffic on the roads but the driving is still the same, perhaps with completion in a shorter time.

Recently, as part of the Shell Rimula #HeroKami campaign, Shell Malaysia has been distributing face masks to the truck drivers to provide them with protection against the possibility of getting infected by the virus.

The distribution has been done in the Port Klang, Selangor area and so far, some 20,000 face masks have been given out. The masks were handed over at selected participating truck service centres and the Northport.
