While some car manufacturers have commissioned specialist companies to make miniature cars for their little clientele (hopefully to become customers when they are older), Nissan once specially developed a model called the Datsun Baby for a children’s park near Tokyo.
The year was 1965 and the carmaker produced 100 units specifically for use in the park known as Kodomo no Kuni. Aside from the donation of the cars, Nissan also provided training materials for automobile traffic education supervised the design of its children’s automobile driving course.
Kodomo no Kuni had been established to commemorate the marriage between then-Crown Prince Akihito Shinno Denka and Crown Princess Michiko. It opened on National Children’s Day on May 5, 1965 to help educate and mold the next generation of children in a fun, recreational setting. The presentation of the children’s cars was a result of Nissan’s strong support for the park’s purpose and its mission.
Educating children about traffic conditions
The concept behind Nissan’s involvement was to use the Datsun Baby to educate children about real-life traffic conditions and safe motoring. This was especially imported during that time as motorisation was starting in Japan and more cars would be on the roads.
The car was based on the Cony Guppy, a 200 cc 2-passenger utility truck from Aichi Machine Industry Company Ltd. The bodywork was specially redesigned to be more sporty by Nissan to allow children to be able to sample a full-scale, fully-structured vehicle unlike any other of that time. It had a 4-wheel independent suspension system with double wishbones up front, and a spring-actuated self-turning feature on the steering wheel.
The automatic transmission with a torque converter was made by Okamura Corporation which had introduced Japan’s first domestic torque converter. For safety, there was a speed limiter that prevented the Baby from going faster than 30 km/h and the headlamps complied with the traffic regulations of that time.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) recently announced that the new Nissan X-Trail Facelift is now open for booking, and is expected to be launched sometime in April 2019. The new X-Trail Facelift now offers a new Hybrid variant and 3 Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) variants.

In line with the Government’s Sales and Service Tax (SST) implementation effective 1st September 2018, Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM), the sole distributor of Nissan vehicles in Malaysia, has announced the new pricing for its Nissan models inclusive of 10% Sales Tax.
Nissan Almera, Grand Livina, Serena S-Hybrid and X-Trail will be priced ranging from RM 69,800 to RM153,800*, and are lower compared to the Goods and Service Tax (GST) price structure, whereas for the Nissan Navara, the pickup’s price will remain at current 0% GST price while stocks last. This ranges from RM 77,330.97 for the 2.5L Single Cab to RM 119,869.08 for the fully loaded VL Plus (Double Cab). After-sales services by Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis Sdn Bhd (TCEAS) will be subjected to a 6% service tax for labor charge.
ETCM also introduced its ‘Malaysia Day Bonus’ campaign with attractive rebates up to RM 8,000* for selected Nissan models. Members of the public are invited to test drive the recently launched Navara VL Plus with Intelligent Around View Monitor (I-AVM) and other innovative Nissan models at any Nissan showrooms across the nation.

Tan Chong Ekspres Auto Servis Sdn Bhd (TCEAS) recently emerged as Champion in the Nissan Service Advisor Excellence Competency (NISAC) Award Asia Regional Contest held in Thailand.
Mr Ernest Chong Ruichen (below) from Nissan Kuching 3S Centre, who took national honours in the NISAC National Contest held in April 2018, was chosen to represent Malaysia for the regional competition. Being the youngest contestant, Ernest Chong topped the Service Advisor contest, beating other more experienced contestants from Hong Kong, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Philippines, Brunei and Sri Lanka. He was commended for his extraordinary soft skills, Nissan Sales and Service Way handling standards and customer’s centric mindset.
Nissan Service Advisor Excellence Competency (NISAC) Award Asia Regional Contest is a regional competition organised by Nissan Motor Co Ltd. (NML), aimed to recognise and award the best-skilled service advisor from After-Sales and Service divisions. The contest evaluation aspects involved method in welcoming customers, seriousness in meeting customer’s needs and wants, transparency for the customer’s peace of mind, and sincere explanation for customer’s thorough understanding,

Takata Airbag Inflator Replacement Service Campaign
TCEAS together with Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) would like to re-emphasize on the Takata airbag inflator replacement service campaign.
Customers with affected Nissan vehicles are advised to call the nearest TCEAS outlet for Takata airbag inflator replacement appointment. Selected TCEAS outlets have extended its operation hours and now open 365 days, making it easier for customers to service their vehicles on weekends, as well as to alleviate the capacities for the replacement activity. All labour and replacement parts for this replacement service campaign will be at no cost to owners.
