Although your vehicle may have clocked much less mileage in the past two years due to restrictions on interstate travel and general limitations of movements, it still needs to be regularly serviced. Even though the mileage may be low and not reach the usual 5,000 or 10,000-km that many service intervals are set at, manufacturers also have a schedule based on months for low-mileage motorists. This is because although the vehicle is not used much, the oil may deteriorate after some time and need to be changed.

Therefore, regardless of the mileage, you would have to send in your vehicle at intervals of 6 months or a year, depending on the brand and model. This will also allow the service centre to carry out checks to ensure that everything is in good working order as well.

Although there are prescribed mileage intervals for servicing, low-mileage owners should follow the time-based intervals instead.

With the Hari Raya festivities coming up and now that interstate travel is not forbidden, many will be planning to take ‘balik kampung’ to celebrate with loved ones and friends. This makes it even more important to have the vehicle inspected and serviced, if that is due.

In connection with this, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) has a Raya Aftersales promotion which will be on until May 31, 2022. During the promotion period, Ford vehicle owners can save money on genuine parts as well as services.

“As we settle into a new way of living with COVID-19 in the endemic phase, we must all continue to take precautions to stay safe. With our Ford customers planning to ‘balik kampung’ and travel for the upcoming Raya holidays, we hope this service promotion will help them stay safe on the roads while enjoying more savings,” said Turse Zuhair, Managing Director, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion-Ford.

Save up to 20%
Owners who send their vehicle in for service during the campaign period will enjoy savings of up to 20% on lubricants as well as timing and brake packages. There’s also a 20% discount on selected parts and 10% discount on labour charges for the packages.

Other offers include add-on services such as wheel alignment and balancing which are important not only for tyre life but also safety. Improperly aligned wheels could affect the steering while unbalanced tyres may get worn out irregularly and grip may be affected. Additionally, air conditioning service is also available – which is important to ensure a comfortable journey. SDAC service centres can also provide polishing as well as sanitisation services.

For peace of mind, all vehicles will be given a free 27-point inspection conducted by Ford-certified technicians to ensure their vehicles are in tip-top condition.

Customers who spend a total of RM1,000 and above on any Raya campaign offer and other selected services will receive a free exclusive sports bag. Fee Ford Raya packets will also be available (while stocks last).

Red and orange are traditionally the colours used for Chinese New Year celebrations as they signify luck, prosperity and happiness. To welcome the new Year of the Water Tiger, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) is offering two of its popular Nissan models in the colours.

The  X-Trail 2.0L Mid version will come with Monarch Orange, while the Serena S-Hybrid will be available in a distinctive Radiant Red finish with a ‘floating‘ black roof.

As border crossings between states are now permitted, many Malaysians are travelling more out of their towns and cities. They may be going to visit loved ones in another state whom they could not see for a long time, or they may want to have a change of scenery after months of being restricted to their own state or district.

The tourism industry, which was severely impacted by loss of business, is ready to welcome all these travellers and support from Tourism Malaysia is helping to promote domestic tourism. Other companies related to travel are also providing incentives to travel and Petron Malaysia is one of them.

The petroleum company has a 5-month long campaign which offers prizes to those who purchase its fuel (they must be registered with the company’s loyalty program). Each purchase will earn the motorist an entry for lucky draws and if the cumulative purchase amount is RM250 in one month, they will also qualify for the Grand Prize lucky draw.

Grand prize, monthly and weekly winners

Prizes for the promotion, known as ‘Jom Jalan Jalan with Petron’, include holiday packages and cash. Six winners will win the Grand Prize of up to RM20,000 worth of travel packages, cash rewards and fuel. Besides the Grand Prize, there are also RM5,000 worth of prizes for another 10 customers. There are also 100 consolation prizes which will be given out every month, while 1,000 weekly winners will receive RM200 worth of PMiles points each.

The winners will be selected by region – North, East Coast, Central, South, Sabah and Sarawak – to ensure every region has their own winners. The promotion runs from this month until the end of March 2022.

Driving long distances soon? Be sure to check your vehicle first to avoid unnecessary problems

GoCar Malaysia – an on-demand app-based platform that offers ‘mobility-as-a-service’ – is running the GOLADIES campaign which provides free GoCar Garage trials with upgrade options to encourage more women drivers to experience the benefits of its digital car service and maintenance solution.

Using the GoCar App, the first 300 women customers to apply the relevant promo codes will receive a free or upgradable pit-stop oil change service (only premium Total or Shell branded oils).

The promo codes are as follow:
“PITSTOP1” for Mineral Oil service package, totally free (normal price RM98)
“PITSTOP2” for Semi-Synthetic Oil service package for only RM30 (normal price RM128)
“PITSTOP3” for Fully-Synthetic Oil service package for only RM100 (normal price RM198)

They can also enjoy having their car serviced without needing to take time off work or leave their homes. GoCar’s GoValet door-to-door delivery service will be available for free during the campaign period. Other benefits include free 2-hour use of a GoCar vehicle, free car wash and sanitisation and a free 31-point vehicle inspection to ensure their vehicle is in tip-top condition. This would be particularly useful now that many people are keen on making long trips after over a year of restrictions.

The one-time-only promo codes must be used between  October 21 and November 30, 2021, but customers will have until December 31, 2021 to make their service appointments. The GOLADIES campaign is available only within the Klang Valley area. Vehicles will be serviced at the GoCar Garage Hub in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“GoCar Garage is the latest offering in our increasing focus on mobility-as-a-service to harness technology to improve customer experiences. We understand that car servicing is generally not an enjoyable experience, and the prospect of unexpected costs can be unsettling. For women, there also tends to be greater concerns about being overcharged or taken advantage of, which is why our GoCar Garage solution is ideal for them,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of GoCar Malaysia.

“With our seamless end-to-end platform, they can complete the entire servicing process with just their mobilephones. Furthermore, they can be assured of OEM-level service excellence as our technicians are trained to work on any make and model of passenger vehicle,” Mr. Wong added. “More importantly, we are the only third-party car service centre to provide upfront quotations for pre-approval so they can rest assured of full transparency in our pricing.”

Through the GoCar mobile app, customers can easily schedule and confirm their service appointments, select or request required services, make payments and arrange for door-to-door delivery, anytime and from anywhere. In addition to the 45-minute oil change, other services include battery inspection and replacement, tyre services, air conditioning repair and maintenance, brake repair and maintenance, engine cooling system and replacement, electrical diagnosis as well as body and paint repairs.

The mobile app tracks all requested services and generates quotations to mitigate any possibilities of unapproved mark-ups. Furthermore, these cost breakdowns will only be generated if the technicians think a procedure is required after inspection. Work will only begin after customers give their confirmation and approval.

With the constant pressure to increase sales volumes, car companies often focus more on getting new customers to buy their products, offering special deals at various times of the year as incentives. However, there are also those that do not forget their loyal customers too, especially those who have stayed with the brand over the years.

As a show of appreciation for such customers, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) is offering an additional savings for maintenance service to Volkswagen Care Plus (VCP) members. Under the VCP programme, members are entitled to three 20% service discount vouchers and from now until December 31, 2021, a further 10% discount will be given to make it a total of 30%.

Volkswagen Genuine Parts include batteries, which come with a 24-month warranty.

100% genuine parts assured
The service discount vouchers can be used at all authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. Apart from services and repairs that are carried out by qualified and experienced technicians in accordance with Volkswagen’s global standards, owners are also assured that all parts used are 100% genuine parts. The importance of using genuine parts cannot be understated. Just like Volkswagen vehicles, the genuine parts are manufactured to the same high standards with strict quality control. They have quality, safety and reliability and will last for a long period of usage.

Only available with app
This promotion is only available by using the new Volkswagen Cares app. The app makes it easy to manage service bookings online, obtain roadside assistance and access the Volkswagen dealer network (with a dealer locator feature). It can be downloaded on the Apple App Store for iOS users, and the Google Play store for Android users.

VCP is an exclusive programme for Volkswagen owners with a vehicle that is 5 years and older. It also comes with benefits such as 2 years of complimentary roadside assistance, including battery support 24 hours a day.

Volkswagen owners can get more with VIP

Staying at home more than going for casual outings is the ‘New Normal’ in this age of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation in different countries varies, the main thing is to minimize close contact so many of the usual activities we used to enjoy are not possible – for now. In Malaysia, we have been having the Movement Control Order (MCO) for over a year and this has largely restricted leaving the home, except for essential or emergency matters or to go to work (with permission from the authorities).

Fortunately, this is the 21st century where we have the internet, so even though people cannot meet face to face, they can still remain in regular contact via the various online channels. Perhaps it’s just not the same as sitting at the mamak stall with your friends but it is certainly better than 30 years ago when such a situation would have meant isolation and much more boredom. Now you can even go racing with your friends online!

‘Paint’ a digital canvas
For families with little ones, Mazda Malaysia (represented by Bermaz Motor) has an interactive colouring contest which is ideal at this #stayathome time. It’s a digital age activity where children can ‘paint’ a digital canvas on their computer or tablet (a smartphone would be too small).

There are five different drawings to colour, four of them with current Mazda models and one of the Mazda RX Vision concept car. There doesn’t seem to be a limit on the entries that can be submitted so participants can probably choose one or all the drawings offered.

Cash prizes and Mazda Premium Merchandise
The drawing tools are simple to use (like MS Paint) and once completed, they can be printed out as well. To join the contest, the completed image needs to be attached to the submission form available at the website. All submissions must reach Mazda Malaysia by August 18, 2021. Cash prizes and Mazda Premium Merchandise will be given as prizes for the entries judged to be the best.

Click here to go to the Mazda Interactive Colouring Contest page and if you are interested in knowing more about the models in the drawings, you can get information at www.mazda.com.my as well as take a virtual tour of the Mazda Malaysia flagship showroom in Glenmarie, Selangor.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri has just passed but for Shell Malaysia, the festive atmosphere continues and to celebrate the festivity, motorists can get extra rewards when they fuel up at Shell stations nationwide. The company has extended the ‘Ekstra Ganjaran Setiap Hari’ BonusLink loyalty programme promotion that awards customers up to 4x points from now until July 31, 2021.

“We continuously look for ways to support and delight our customers as they are at the heart of everything we do. In the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we are giving extra rewards to our customers through the extension of the BonusLink loyalty programme promotion so that more Malaysians can earn points and redeem special treats from Shell. It’s simple, quick, and definitely rewarding,” said Shairan Huzani Husain, MD of Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd.

RM50 of fuel purchases
To participate, customers simply need to swipe their BonusLink card, or use the BLINK app at Shell and pump a minimum of RM50 of Shell fuels in a single receipt. They can easily multiply their points by double, triple – and even quadruple – when they make up to 4 visits per month.

The point multiplication is only applicable within the same month and will reset on the 1st of every month, until July 31, 2021. Customers can sign up for BonusLink at any Shell station nationwide or register by downloading the BLINK app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

In addition, customers can redeem special treats in-store with as low as 100 BonusLink Points (for a limited time). Treats include popular favourites such as Yeo’s canned drink, Coca-Cola Klasik, Nescafe Tarik, Himalaya Salt candy, and Shell SELECT Keropok Ikan.

Help from Shell
“We want Malaysians to continue to enjoy exciting rewards that we have to offer with ‘Ekstra Ganjaran Setiap Hari’. With the traveling restrictions being enforced, we understand that it may be challenging for Malaysians to truly experience up to 4x points with BonusLink every time they refuel at Shell. We hope with this extension, Malaysians will be able to make the most out of their journeys with Shell,” Encik Shairan said.

He explained that the extension is also Shell’s way of helping out in the economic uncertainties Malaysians are experiencing with the nationwide MCO. “We understand it has not been easy for all; we will continue to stand with our customers, and by providing them with the extra value every time they refuel at Shell, we hope to help more Malaysians to make the most of their Ringgit. We hope our little effort will go some ways in helping Malaysians to go further,” added Encik Shairan.

The Shell outlet that does not sell fuel or lubricants

Doing shopping online was already gaining popularity among Malaysians before the COVID-19 pandemic started. It offered convenience and an easier way to check out more choices, plus having the goods delivered right to your doorstep.

When the pandemic started and physical contact was discouraged to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, online shopping was already established and with the push by banks to get people to use electronic transactions, e-commerce boomed.

Even car companies started to use online channels as one of their marketing tools, expanding from just having websites that provided information to actually selling as well. Of course, this may not fully replace the personal experience of visiting a showroom, touching the vehicles and sitting in them and, of course, going for a test-drive.

What the online selling approach can do is to start the buying process without the customer having to travel to a showroom and take the process some way along before any physical contact may be necessary. In fact, some companies even offer test-drives if required by sending over the vehicle to the home or office.

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn. Bhd. (ETCM) is among the companies that sees online shopping as the way to offer its customers a convenient and secure new Nissan vehicle purchasing experience. They can now do so at the Nissan Flagship Store on the Lazada e-commerce platform.

“We are excited to expand our Nissan models on Lazada, making it readily available to everyone who prefers the convenience of shopping at their fingertips. In this challenging time of COVID-19 pandemic, digitalisation has been fast-tracked and we are confident that this move is another way for the brand to enhance its services and at the same time offer great deals when purchasing a new Nissan on a digital application,” said Christopher Tan, ETCM Sales & Marketing Director.

The full range of Nissan models distributed by ETCM in Malaysia can be found at the Nissan Flagship store, including the latest Navara pick-up truck. ETCM may from time to time have special promotions exclusively for those who book online, saving money or getting extras with their purchase.

In conjunction with the opening of the Nissan Flagship Store, the first 55 customers who book the new Almera 1.0L Turbo, Navara, X-Trail or Serena S-Hybrid will receive a free Nescafe Coffee Machine worth RM 598. The booking fee starts from as low as RM250.

Other promotions available include an Urban accessories package (worth up to RM5,500) with the Almera Turbo and Flexi Financing from RM540 monthly. There’s also a Special Civil Servants Promotion for the model (VL variant)  with a starting price from RM71,906.

The X-Trail comes with the IMPUL or Aero Edition accessories package worth up to RM5,600, while the Serena S-Hybrid comes with free maintenance service for the first 3 years of ownership, with parts and labour costs included.

Booking online is as easy as making other online purchases. You just select the model you want to purchase and add it to your cart (which would be a pretty big one!). You can choose a method of making payment for the booking fee and submit your details. A representative of ETCM will then contact you and provide assistance through the rest of the process.

Click here to visit the Nissan Flagship Store or you can also visit www.nissan.com.my for information on Nissan vehicles and services from ETCM in Malaysia.

The Tiguan, Volkswagen’s bestselling model, has received feature upgrades for the 2021 Allspace R-Line version. The upgrades provide additional convenience to occupants with respect to using personal devices and smartphones.

While most cars have USB ports nowadays – for recharging devices or accessing data and content – it’s still the transitional stage when the latest smartphones come with the larger, more efficient USB-C ports but the ports in the cars are the older USB ports which are smaller and of a different shape too.

Now the latest Tiguan Allspace R-Line comes with USB-C ports which can handle higher power, so recharging is faster and data transfer speeds are also faster. The good thing about a USB-C port is that you can insert the cable either way, instead of having to look for the right side up.

Connectivity is also improved with wireless App-Connect for Apple Car Play. This allows mirroring apps from the iPhone onto the infotainment system and accessing them using the touchscreen. So instead of having to look at a Waze map on the small phone screen, you can view it on the larger 9.2-inch colour display on the dashboard.

Priced from RM209,637 (excluding insurance), the Tiguan Allspace R-Line has a powerful 2.0TSI turbocharged direct injection petrol engine with an efficient and slick 7-speed wet clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG). The engine’s 220 ps/350 Nm goes to all four wheels with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system distributing power flows front and rear intelligently.

Besides a 20% discount on Volkswagen engine oil, customers will also receive a car-care kit if they spend a minimum of RM1,200 when they send their vehicle for servicing at an authorised dealership.

Aftersales Raya Campaign
Until June 13, 2021, Volkswagen owners who send their vehicles for servicing at authorized Volkswagen dealerships can get a 20% discount on Volkswagen Genuine Oil. Those who spend a minimum of RM1,200 during the visit will receive a complimentary car care kit and free Raya packets (while stocks last).

Visit www.bhpetrol.com.my for more information.

Volkswagen at ACE
The latest Tiguan Allspace R-Line and other Volkswagen models are on display at the Auto Car Expo (ACE) at Setia City Convention Centre in Selangor this weekend. Besides ongoing promotions, there’s also an additional RM1,000 cash rebate for purchases made at the event. If you’re not ready to buy a brand new Volkswagen, there are also quality pre-owned units at the event from Das WeltAuto.

Those who book a Passat Elegance and R-Line will receive a complimentary all-expenses paid trip to the Pangkor Laut Resort in Perak. Additionally, the Passat Elegance comes with 1-year of free insurance coverage worth up to RM5,500, while the Passat R-Line comes with free petrol for a year (worth RM2,500).

Volkswagen models are available for viewing and test-drives at all authorized dealerships nationwide. To locate a showroom in Malaysia, visit www.volkswagen.com.my.

With the Hari Raya festive period in the coming months, there may be additional expenditures to prepare for the celebration. To help save for that, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) has a service promotion which will help Ford owners save money so they have more to spend for their celebrations.

From now until May 31, 2021, the company is offering savings when customers book a service during this period, they can benefit from savings of up to 20% on selected parts and engine oil. Further savings of 20% are also available on brake and timing belt packages, up to 20% discount on a lubricant package, plus 10% discount for labour charges for the packages mentioned (terms and conditions apply).

Other rewards too
For added peace-of-mind, Ford vehicles will receive a free 27-point vehicle  inspection conducted by Ford-certified technicians to ensure their vehicles are in tip-top  condition. While there may be a restriction on long-distance travel at this time, it is still a good idea to have the vehicle checked periodically so any issues can be identified early and addressed before they worsen (and cost more to fix!).

Additionally, each customer who spends more than RM350 in a single receipt will receive an exclusive Ford travel mug and all customers bringing their vehicles for servicing will also receive free green packets (subject to stock availability).

Genuine Ford Parts with warranty
As the sold distributor of Ford in Malaysia, SDAC will always ensure that only Genuine or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are used when servicing at any of the 39 authorised Ford service centres nationwide.

With Genuine Ford Parts, customers can be certain of the highest standards of quality, fit and  finish as the parts are designed for specific Ford vehicles to ensure superior performance. When purchased at the service centre, they are also covered by a warranty for a period of 12 months or 20,000 kms (whichever occurs first), excluding wear and tear parts.

An easy way to book a service appointment
For the convenience of owners, a service appointment can be booked online via the Ford website at anytime, from anywhere. All you need is a smartphone or other device with an internet connection. The e-Service Appointment is available for 7 authorised Ford Service Centres – Ford Ara Damansara, Ford  Petaling Jaya 2, Ford Juru, Ford Butterworth, Ford Kuching, Ford Kota Kinabalu and Ford  Tawau.

Response to the request for an appointment will be prompt and the owner will immediately know  the available vehicle service time slots at the chosen dealership as well as select and confirm their preferred schedule, up to one month in  advance. To make an e-Service Appointment booking, click here.

Alternatively, customers can call an authorised Ford Service Centre directly or contact the  Customer Care Hotline at 1300 38 3181.

SDAC adheres to the government’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all its outlets to combat COVID-19 pandemic. Customers are required to follow the requirements such as MySejahtera registration, temperature scanning and social distancing for the safety of everyone. While arranging an appointment in advance is better, the owners can still make use of the comfortable customer lounges if they are waiting for their vehicle, and enjoy a nasi lemak or drink too.
