Renault

Although the Movement Control Order (MCO) has prevented events and gatherings from being held, TC Euro Cars (TCEC) today held a press briefing – online. The virtual media event by the franchise holder for Renault was the first by a car company in Malaysia.

“To stay ahead of the curve, here at TCEC, we kick-started our transformation journey last year. With the current COVID-19 pandemic and MCO, digital-first has been accelerated and we believe we are headed the right direction towards future-proofing our business,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of TC Euro Cars.

Mr. Wong said its Renault Subscription and E-Store offerings have been updated with the addition of the Renault Subscription Trial Plan, adjustments to the Subscription Fixed and Switch Plans and an attractive deal for Renault vehicles purchased via the E-Store.

“Be it for short-term, medium-term or long-term usage, there is a subscription plan available to suit customer needs,” he said. He added that more than 80% of TCEC’s customers prefer the Renault Subscription Plan and a 2-year term is the most commonly chosen.

Renault Captur

Renault Subscription Trial Plan
The Trial Plan is now available across from all Renault showrooms nationwide. Piloted early this year from the Renault PJ showroom in Selangor, the Trial Plan offers the Captur at RM399 per week.

More importantly, customers are now allowed to sign up unlimited times as opposed to the previous one-time only offer. The company hopes that the move will help customers who may have had their budgets impacted by the current situation, or who are not keen on long-term commitments in this time of uncertainty.

Fixed and Switch Plan
The Fixed and Switch Plans have also been adjusted to better meet customer needs and wants. To balance affordability and customer confidence, the Fixed Plan now includes a 3-year plan for the Captur and Koleos models. Previously, a 3-year subscription was offered only for the Megane R.S. 280 Cup.

While all monthly rates under the Fixed Plan are still inclusive of roadtax, insurance, regular servicing costs and an annual mileage cap of 20,000 kms, the new updates, allow customers to now top up for a total 40,000 kms, instead of the previous 30,000 kms.

TCEC Renault

As for the Switch Plan, this has been updated with the inclusion of the Switch Base Plan (Captur Trophy at RM1,999 per month) and Switch Prime (Koleos at RM3,199 per month). Under this new Prime Plan, customers will have 2 months of Renault family access. Both Switch Plans continue to offer all-inclusive costs and flexibility with no mileage cap, wear and tear coverage and the option to cancel at any time with no penalties.

TCEC Renault

Also available is an expanded list of optional accessories and access including security and solar films, child seats, digital video recorders and Singapore access. For affordability, the cost can be included in the monthly fee across the subscription duration instead of having to pay one lump sum initially.

There is also a Pre-Owned Captur Subscription which was launched on Renault E-Store and Shopee on last week. It has been well accepted with more than 100 paid bookings within 3 days and at present, all available units have been taken up.

Exclusive Online Deals
The Renault E-Store was launched in Malaysia early this year, a timely move considering how the MCO has prevented customers from going to showrooms. Special deals can be offered periodically on this platform and the latest, until May 31 2020, can save more with rebates equal to instalments for 6 months. Other online exclusives for new customers include free 5-year (or maximum of 100,000 kms) scheduled service and trade-in rewards worth up to RM8,000.

Customers who choose to Subscribe to a new Renault (Fixed or Switch plans) will enjoy a one-month free subscription. Those who opt for the Pre-Owned Captur Subscription plan will continue to enjoy 50% off in the first 6 months of their subscription fee.

Easy Life for Renault owners
Besides offering test-drives of up to 3 hours (in collaboration GoCar), as many customers may look to keep their vehicles for longer, TCEC is enhancing aftersales support in various ways. These encompass door-to-door service with vehicles collected for servicing and returned, promotions for tyres with a 25% discount, over 10% off on batteries and extended warranty for customers who need additional time to catch up on their servicing needs. There will be extended operating hours at the service centres once MCO is lifted.

TCEC Renault

Coming soon
TCEC will also be offering a new mobile application for Renault Subscription customers. Using this, customers will be able to manage their Subscription vehicle. Key functions will include location tracking, digital key to lock/unlock the car, trip history, car-sharing and other features. More details will be available when the app is launched in June.

“We are proud that no other offering in the industry is further ahead in the digital journey than Renault Subscription and Renault E-Store. The new norm will require social distancing. Consumers will need their personal transportation more than ever and we believe the revised subscription plans will be more appealing to them,” Mr. Wong said.

“I believe customers will still come to showrooms as there may be those who want to see and touch the cars, but appointments may be planned to reduce crowding. Customers will be wary of physical contact, of course, and for their peace of mind, showrooms will be sanitized at least 3 times daily. At all times, we will keep protective measures in mind. And as mentioned, we also have the 3-hour test-drives available – and no salesman will be in the car,” he added.

Book using the Renault E-Store
But the MCO is in effect, so owners can’t go to the showroom or service centre. Not a problem as there is the Renault E-Store at www.renault.com.my which can accept booking and payment online.

During the MCO, the Rencare team will also continue to support customers who need emergency assistance. The team is contactable at 1800-88-8663 (24 hours, 7 days).

 Deferred servicing/warranty extension
Renault owners who have had to defer their vehicle servicing due to the MCO need not worry about non-compliance which can affect their warranty. TCEC is providing additional time for servicing until May 28 2020 for all vehicles that were due for periodic servicing between March 18 and April 28, 2020. All service appointments will have a 30-day extension to catch-up on their service intervals.

There is also a 30-day extension until May 28, 2020 for all warranties that expire during the MCO period.

The designers were inspired by the world of motorsport to create a modern and dynamic design that reflects the technical performance of the vehicle. From the outside, the T 01 Racing is presented in three colours on an EKLA white background: glossy black, bright red and bright yellow.

The inside of the headlight covers is painted in bright red. Reflective retro stickers that are reminiscent of the world of motorsport are affixed to the outside of the vehicle. The painting of the Viscope outer sunvisor, the rims, the radiator grille and rearview mirror housing complete the sporty appearance. Optionally, a customer can order additional parts in carbonfibre, accessories for LED lighting or horns, or even a special paint job.

The spacious cabin has door sills also specially painted in bright red and bright yellow. An anthracite grey interior with carbonfibre elements is provided with red buttons that stand out clearly from the dashboard.

The T 01 Racing is transformed in the Used Trucks Factory, Renault’s own conversion and adaptation facility for used vehicles, using the same assembly procedures as for new vehicles. Only certified original parts are used, and the selling points are low mileage and a manufacturer’s guarantee of 12 months or 120,000 kms.

The MORPHOZ concept is Renault’s vision of personal, shareable, electric mobility of the future. Drawing on the Alliance’s new modular CMF-EV 100% electric platform, it offers a number of different configurations for power, capacity and range, as well as user options and boot space.

The concept is faithful to the brand’s DNA embodying Renault’s Family Petal design strategy and heralds a new family of electric models over the coming years. It represents changes in technology, society, the environment and also human behaviour. The MORPHOZ also supports the carmaker’s strategy is to become a supplier of smart mobility solutions for the cities and regions of the future.

Dual use of batteries
Being an electric vehicle (EV), batteries are naturally at the core and with the MORPHOZ concept, Renault is now looking at a different area: the dual use of batteries. When not being used for driving, the batteries remain in the car but can power appliances in the house or the local area via smart charging devices and V2G (Vehicle to Grid) bi-directional technology.

Batteries used in the extended Travel mode are taken out of the vehicle and stored in a charging station for use in other vehicles or to power equipment such as self-service bicycle charging stations or street lighting.

With such a battery-sharing system, there is no need to produce batteries with a nominal 90 kWh capacity for every vehicle. Limiting production in this way is thus good for the carbon footprint and the environment.

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

The new neighbourhood ecosystem
The MORPHOZ embodies the Me/We concept which says that what is one person’s can be shared. It challenges the idea of the car as private and instead encourages shared use. It meets all the family’s requirements, meaning they don’t have to buy a second or even a third vehicle when it’s not necessary or need a larger vehicle for occasional reasons.

It meets the needs of new kinds of community that are developing around digital infrastructures, regenerative resources and social well-being. As a single vehicle which can also serve the communal well-being, it suits new patterns of living in these urban communities, such as the co-living trend in housing.

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

The sharing capabilities of the MORPHOZ are central to this philosophy, with the removal of keys and starting cards, for example. It also anticipates regulations which will soon insist on car-sharing for all cars. Everything is accessed using the smartphone, which works as a digital key. This makes sharing with other people easier without the need to swap keys; drivers instead receive an unlocking code which allows access and use of the vehicle for a pre-determined period.

Smart City ecosystem
As a symbol of Groupe Renault’s vision of electric mobility in the years after 2025, the MORPHOZ is a key part of the transformation to Smart Cities, where connected technologies, smart and open data, IoT devices, smart networks, new materials and clean energies can be used to design and build a positive future.

Its Level 3 driving autonomy enhances the safety of everyone by removing human error behind almost 90% of road accidents. Its sensors also detect pedestrians and cyclists, actively alerting the driver to them in manual mode, in order to avoid accidents.

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

Its electric powertrain helps to improve air quality and means it can be used in areas that are out of bounds to vehicles with internal combustion engines. The shorter City version is ideal for city traffic, with a reduced footprint and less extensive vehicle facilities.

Connectivity and Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) recognises the driver on approach, activating a light sequence on the doors to indicate recognition, and unlocks/opens the doors. The cabin is crossed by a raised centre console which represents the ‘brain’ of the MORPHOZ. There is a special holder for the driver’s smartphone, which is then drawn into the console’s wooden panel to serve as the main data source. The AI will then, if authorised, use data and information from the smartphone to perform its tasks.

The AI lets the driver see the surrounding area by processing real-time data from external sensors and images from the vehicle cameras, especially the set which replace the door mirrors. Light displays on the inner doors and windows signal the presence of a pedestrian or a cyclist in the blind spot.

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

2020 Renault MORPHOZ

The social role of the AI on board is clear by the shared screen located between the seats on the centre console. This is where passengers can scroll through the music library on one of their smartphones or where they can play video games against each other. This screen also lets the users control the comfort of the cabin through the MULTI SENSE settings.

Like the new ZOE’s seat fabric, the cabin in the MORPHOZ uses a selection of recycled materials: wood for the dashboard, plastic for the inner doors and fabric for the seats.

Dedicated and adaptable electric platform
Like the CMF-B platform launched last year on the all-new Clio and used on the latest Captur, the CMF-EV allows engineers to design, build, adjust, and fine-tune electric vehicles more efficiently. The innovative architecture features a long wheelbase, reduced overhangs and a flat floor. A streamlined battery pack means the vehicle can be designed closer to the ground and with a lower roof to deliver improvements to aerodynamic performance.

The configurable concept can transform into two different modes: from the shorter City form to the longer Travel version. It is fully adaptable to fit the needs of drivers and passengers, with City mode fitted with the right battery capacity for day-to-day commuting or shopping while in Travel, it is able to accommodate the added capacity needed for long-distance journeys. The Travel Extender battery pack offers an additional 50 kWh of power, for a total capacity of 90 kWh and a total range of up to 700 kms.

Given its compact size, the Renault Twingo was destined to one day become an electric vehicle (EV). But 28 years ago, when it was introduced, EV technology was still not advanced and didn’t offer the efficiency and performance that would attract consumers, apart from the fact that the technology was expensive.

After three generations and almost 4 million cars sold in 25 countries, the Twingo now goes fully electric with its latest version – the Twingo Z.E. which will be launched at the Geneva Motorshow next month.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

Seventh EV developed by Renault
This is the seventh all-electric vehicle developed by Renault, joining the ZOE, Twizy quadricycle, Kangoo Z.E., Master Z.E., as well as the RSM SM3 Z.E. saloon (sold in South Korea), and the City K-ZE small SUV (sold in China).

Continuing with the 3.61-metre long model’s fun design, attractive personality and exclusive customisation possibilities, the addition of an electric powertrain offers personal mobility with zero emissions. Its electric rear-wheel drive and different driving modes make it fun and enjoyable to drive.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

The Twingo Z.E., which weighs 1,112 kgs, has a 60-kW powertrain which generates maximum torque of 160 Nm. This enables a claimed top speed of 135 km/h (0 to 100 km/h in 12.6 seconds) which is sufficient for motorway driving.

A ‘B mode’ gives drivers a choice of three levels for the regenerative braking function as soon as they release the accelerator pedal. In the most advanced configuration, the car decelerates significantly, which quickly regenerates the battery, reduces the need for braking and makes city driving easier. Thermal management is provided by a water-cooling system, a first in the Renault Z.E. range.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

Up to 215 kms range
Sitting on a platform engineered for EVs, the 22 kWh battery packs has the latest-generation lithium-ion cells developed in partnership with LG Chem. Depending on the cycle used, the range can be from 180 kms to 250 kms, and Renault believes that this means an owner can have a week of city driving without recharging.

An ‘Eco’ mode, activated by pushing a button on the centre console, extends operating range to around 215 kms on mixed journeys by limiting acceleration and top speed on motorways.

Flexible charging system
With its smart Cameloon charger (patented by Renault), the Twingo Z.E. can be charged at home, at work or using the AC power infrastructure up to 22 kW. The technology enables it to adapt to the power available at each charging station and make full use of existing facilities, especially in cities. As a result, Twingo Z.E. benefits from optimum charging time whatever the charging station.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

It is claimed to recharge up to 4 times faster than its competitors at stations most commonly found in public areas. Connection to a 22-kW charging station for just thirty minutes increases operating range by around 80 kms. However, from a home 2.3-kW outlet, a fully empty battery back would take at least 13.5 hours to ‘refill’ to 100%.

Compact but spacious within
Roomy and functional as ever, the passenger compartment retains all the customisation options offered on the range with the Z.E. logo identifying the all-electric aspect of Twingo Z.E. The 7-inch colour touchscreen, unique in the segment, offers access to Twingo’s new connectivity features.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

With 5 doors, a flat floor and a fully foldable passenger seat, the Twingo Z.E. provides a 2.31-metre loading length. With optimised placement of the battery pack, the size of the boot, closed by a handled tailgate, also remains the same.

2020 Renault TWINGO Z.E.

With the EASY LINK onboard system, charging time can be scheduled in order to take advantage of off-peak hours. Once on the road, the system displays the car’s range on a map in real time, adds the nearest charging stations on request and updates their availability in real time.

Outside the car, drivers can check the battery level during charging from their MY Renault app and remotely control air conditioning and heating to adjust the temperature of the passenger compartment during charging, without affecting the vehicle’s range. Drivers can also use the EV Route Planner feature to simulate a planned route and identify the necessary charging stations on the way.

TC Euro Cars (TCEC) has scored a first in the local auto industry with its move to e-commerce. The company, which represents Renault in Malaysia, has launched the new Renault E-Store on its website at www.renault.com.my .

Adding on from never having to visit a physical showroom with the Renault 3-hour test drive offering via GoCar, customers can now enjoy ultimate convenience and a hassle-free way to buy or take a subscription plan for a Renault. This fully digital process eliminates the time-consuming and tedious process that car-buyers have had to go through for decades.

Renault E-Store

Now, with the Renault E-Store, they can shop from the comfort of their home or office – just as they do shopping for other good online which is a growing trend nowadays. They don’t have to feel pressured by over-attentive salespersons and they can learn more about the model they are interested in at their convenience. They can also arrange for a test-drive and TCEC says that the process extends right to delivery of the registered vehicle.

To celebrate the launch of the new Renault E-Store, TCEC is extending a ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ offer to the first 50 customers who make their purchase online. Each of these early bird online customers will receive a free 6-month subscription (transferable among family members) for the Captur crossover.

Renault Koleos and Megane R.S.
Besides the Captur, the Koleos and Megane R.S. are also available for purchase at the Renault E-Store.

“We are proud to be an e-commerce first automotive brand. With the new Renault E-Store and more new offerings to come, we believe that we are leading the charge in digitalising the customer journey and, at the same time, disrupting the industry,” said Nicholas Tan, Chairman of TCEC.

The Megane has been one of Renault’s more successful models, with 7 million units sold globally since 1995. Over 4 generations, it has come to be a full range and, like the Volkswagen Golf with its GTI, has had a powerful variant in the R.S. line.

For 2020, the range includes a first for Renault in the compact segment – a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It uses technologies developed by the Alliance and the Renault Engineering Department and benefits from the electric-vehicle expertise acquired by Groupe Renault over the last 10 years, as well as its experience in Formula 1 racing.

The New Megane’s exterior design has gained sculpted and more dynamic lines in keeping with the Renault brand identity to offer even more character and sophistication. Its headlights now feature LED Pure Vision technology said to improve and increase the headlamp beam by nearly 30%, offering greater visibility, safety and driving comfort.

2020 Renault Megane R.S.

The headlamps, tail lights and fog lights are now all LED. The contour lines of the new rear lights have been raised to display a new trim design and the indicators have become dynamic. The New Megane also features a new, more sophisticated lower panel while the design of the wings is more pronounced, and they also feature door-handle lighting.

2020 Renault Megane R.S.

The revamped and modernised driver’s ‘techno cockpit’ has a new 9.3-inch screen for the multimedia system and a 10.2-inch screen for the dashboard. The 9.3-inch screen provides a display area twice the size of the 7-inch version. This vertical tablet fits perfectly into the dashboard and gives the passenger compartment a very modern look. The Renault EASY LINK multimedia system, inspired by smartphone codes and uses, aims to be more ergonomic, functional and user-friendly.

Renault’s Multi-Sense technology can change the characteristics to one of several different. The driver can choose settings that adjust the engine mapping, steering, ambient lighting and configuration of the digital display that replaces the dials to offer a personalised driving experience

Powertrains
Renault will continue to offer petrol and diesel engines since there will still be demand in many markets outside Europe where internal combustion engines may be preferred. The petrol engine displacement will be the Alliance 1.3 TCe which can be offered in outputs ranging from 115 bhp to 160 bhp. At the end of the year, the New Megane will also be available with the Alliance 1.0 TCe engine with a manual transmission.

The latest Megane Diesel will use a 1.5-litre Blue dCi engine adapted to new anti-pollution standards. Customers have the option of choosing the 95 bhp eco version with a 6-speed manual transmission or the 115 bhp version with a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic transmission.

2020 Renault Megane E-TECH Plug-in
2020 Renault Megane E-TECH Plug-in, estate version.

2020 Renault Megane E-TECH Plug-in

The highlight is of course the new E-TECH Plug-in hybrid powertrain which combines with a 4-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and uses an innovative multi-mode clutch-less gearbox transmission which optimises gearshifting.

The design draws on the experience of the Renault F1 Team, which shared its energy-management expertise (energy recovered during deceleration and braking is used to recharge the battery outside charging cycles) to enable the New Megane to operate with maximum energy efficiency. It is paired with a braking system developed by Renault’s electric vehicle experts.

The battery pack has an energy capacity of 9.8 kWh (400V) battery which can enable the New Megane to run on full-electric mode for up to 50 kms and up to a top speed of 85 mph (135 km/h), it is claimed.

New driver assistance systems
The New Megane’s driver-assistance systems include the Highway & Traffic Jam Companion, a Level 2 autonomous system that provides comfort and peace of mind while driving. Level 2 autonomous capability has adaptive cruise control (which can vary the speed to maintain a safe gap as well as operate from standstill) and lane-centering or lane-keeping control. It’s available in many cars today and can make driving easier but the driver still needs to pay attention to what is happening.

The New Megane R.S.
The high-performance New Megane R.S. adopts a range centred on the Sport chassis and the same single 300 bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged direct-injection engine as the TROPHY version. Torque has been increased by 30 Nm to 420 Nm on EDC transmission models and 400 Nm on manual transmission models. The exhaust system now includes a mechanical valve to adjust the ‘soundtrack’.

For decades, the traditional way of buying a car has required a down-payment of a certain percentage and then repayment of the loan – with interest included – every month for an agreed number of years. However, many people no longer want to be tied down by such a commitment and for them, TC Euro Cars (TCEC),  the sole franchise holder of Renault vehicles in Malaysia, offers the Renault Subscription scheme.

Two plans are available for the Renault Subscription scheme which started with the Captur and Koleos models and is now also available for the latest high-performance Megane R.S. 280 Cup.

Renault Megane R.S.

The Fixed Plan is a more structured plan, available for short periods of 1,2 or 3 years, with a monthly usage rate that covers annual roadtax, insurance premium and regular servicing costs. This plan starts from RM3,999 a month for the Megane R.S. 280 Cup.

Then there’s also the Switch Plan, offering more freedom and flexibility as buyers are given access to other Renault models with no change to the previously announced rates. The Switch Plan offers the Captur with the option of utilising both the Koleos and Megane R.S. within the subscription period.

Furthermore, the Switch Plan comes with no mileage caps, no cancellation penalties and fees are inclusive of insurance, annual roadtax and regular servicing costs. Replacement of wear and tear items for the Captur are also included under this plan.

“We believe that Subscription is the alternative that consumers are looking for in their vehicle ownership experience. With the updated Switch Plan, Renault Subscription is even more compelling as customers can now swap from the compact Captur to the luxurious new Koleos SUV, and over to the high-performance machine offered with the Megane R.S. The public interest in Renault Subscription has exceeded our expectations, so we believe we are on the right track,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO of TC Euro Cars, adding that only limited units of the Megane R.S. 280 Cup are available on Subscription.
