Perodua

Yes, you read that headline right. In January 2018 alone, Perodua recorded 17,900 sales, its second highest-ever monthly market share of above 40%, against a total industry volume (TIV) of 43,930 units (Perodua recorded its highest ever monthly sales in August 2016 at 40.5%. Source: Carlist)

In January, all Perodua models retained their lead in their respective vehicle segments in Malaysia, with 9,029 Myvis, 4,085 Axias, 2,776 Bezzas and 1,803 Alzas sold.

“While we defer to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA)’s numbers, we are cautiously optimistic that for January 2018, our monthly market share is the highest ever in our history. This was spurred by deliveries of the new Myvi, as well as continued strong demand for our other models,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh at the company’s Chinese New Year Luncheon with the media and business partners here today.

“The new Myvi has racked up over 48,000 bookings to date, the 18,000th unit of which today we proudly deliver to Mr Wong Wai Cheng of Negeri Sembilan. We would also like to add that close to 20,000 units of the new Myvi have been delivered to date. Overall, over a million Myvis have been registered in Malaysia since 2005. This performance has been a great boost to the Malaysian automotive ecosystem as the better-than-expected demand for our latest offering as well as our current model line-up have resulted in better demand for local parts,” he added.

Aminar also said that Perodua is looking to purchase more than RM5 billion in components and parts this year from mainly local vendors. This will further contribute towards the growth of the Malaysian economy. All Perodua models have over 90% local content.

“To all Malaysians, we simply cannot thank you enough for your love and support for our humble hatchback through all these years. Your recognition spurs us on to work harder on bettering our products and services, because as always, You Matter Most,” he said.

“To those who have placed orders for the new Myvi and have yet to receive their cars, we sincerely apologise for the wait. Rest assured that we are ramping up production to get the cars to you as quickly as we can. The Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd plant will continue to work overtime until demand stabilises,” he continued.

Mr Wong, 25, was all smiles as Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin handed him the keys to his brand-new Lava Red Myvi 1.5 Advance.

“I am over the moon to be taking delivery of my new car. The minute I laid eyes on the new Myvi and saw how many sophisticated features I was getting for the price, I knew it was the vehicle for me,” said Mr Wong. “I’m always on the go. The Myvi’s compact dimensions make it very easy to park and manoeuvre, but it’s also very spacious inside. With six airbags and Advanced Safety Assist, I am well protected, and the built-in toll card reader is my favourite feature!” he added.

“We wish all our Chinese friends Xin Nian Kuai Le and Gong Xi Fa Cai. May the Year of the Dog bring more luck, prosperity and happiness to us all!” Datuk (Dr) Aminar concluded.

Owned and operated by authorised dealer Yusmanida Auto Sdn Bhd, the outlet occupies a built-up area of 16,000 sq ft on a total land area of 45,000 sq ft, and is staffed by a total of 65 employees including 30 sales advisors and 12 service advisors.

The opening of the outlet was officiated today by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Haji Ahmad Maslan. Also in attendance were Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Madani Sahari, Jeram State Assemblyman Dato’ Haji Amiruddin Setro and Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin.

Also in attendance were Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Madani Sahari, Jeram State Assemblyman Dato’ Haji Amiruddin Setro and Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Dato’ Dr Zahari Husin.

“Yusmanida Auto has been a Perodua dealer since 2003, previously operating a sales outlet on Jalan Meru, Klang,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Yusmanida Auto Sdn Bhd Managing Director Sarizal Yusman Yusoff said that the RM11 million 3S outlet began construction in August 2016. Building completed in April 2017 ahead of the start of operations in September 2017.

Yusmanida Auto’s new Perodua 3S centre is located at Wisma Yusmanida, Lot 28808, Persiaran E1/1, Seri Pristana, 47000 Saujana Utama, Sungai Buloh.

Perodua now has a total of 186 sales and 183 service outlets in Malaysia, as well as 24 Body & Paint outlets.

After a banner year in 2017, Perodua is now targeting sales of 209,000 vehicles for 2018 – a modest 2% jump from the 204,900 vehicles registered in 2017 – mainly due to continued strong demand for its current model line-up.

“The momentum carried by the Bezza in the earlier part of 2017 and the continued demand for our other models have helped make us the top-selling carmaker in Malaysia for the 12th year running,” said Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh (above).

“Based on our internal calculations, we expect the total industry volume to increase to 590,000 units in 2018, which would see our market share sustained at slightly above 35%,” he said.

On the current sales performance, Aminar said that the 204,900 figure in 2017 was above Perodua’s earlier target of 202,000; however, the 2017 performance was slightly lower than the 207,100 recorded in 2016, amidst challenging market conditions, intense competition and strict hire purchase guidelines.

“That being said, we are happy to say that we expect the numbers to climb back up this year due to favourable economic conditions as well as the continued momentum for the new Myvi,” he added.

The new Perodua Myvi (above)has garnered over 36,000 bookings since order-taking began in November 2017, and over 11,000 units have found homes to date.

“We expect more registrations moving forward, as most of the customers who placed orders last year wanted their cars delivered in 2018,” Aminar said.

“That being said, we are also doing our level best to meet demand especially for the 1.5 variants, which was beyond our expectations. Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, our manufacturing arm, is currently working overtime to ensure deliveries are made within an acceptable time frame,” he said, adding that Perodua will focus on maximising the sales potential of all its models in 2018 to meet the 209,000-unit target.

Datuk Aminar said that the increase in demand this year will also have a positive impact on vehicle production with an estimated 215,334 units to be produced at both its manufacturing facilities this year compared with 200,146 units produced in 2017.

Perodua’s intake growth has been positive in 2017, with the national car company expecting its service intakes to grow by 1.9% from 2.1 million intakes in 2017 to 2.14 million in 2018. From a corporate responsibility standpoint, Perodua will be undertaking a few long-term projects that will shape the youth and sports landscape.

Kicking them off is the Perodua Malaysia Masters, an international badminton tournament that is on-going this week at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, with the finals taking place this Sunday.

“Sponsored by our technical partner Daihatsu Motor Company of Japan, the Perodua Malaysia Masters will see top as well as up-and-coming Malaysian shuttlers duking it out with their international counterparts for victory,” said Datuk Aminar.

Perodua has bagged another award but this time its the BrandLaureate Best Brands Award Most Favourite Brand Automotive Sedan/Compact Cars 2016/2017″ by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF) last week.

The Malaysian automaker was the only automotive OEM which recieved an award at the event, which is an endorsement of how well received its cars are among Malaysian car buyers. Affordable cars and after-sales service are the main reasons that many flock to Perodua dealerships instead of those belong to competitor car companies.

“We are happy yet humbled of this recognition by the BrandLaureate as well as by the Malaysian public for their endorsement of our brand and their strong support. We will continue to improve ourselves, in all aspects, for our valued customers. This endorsement to all our models is a powerful one, particularly in a highly competitive market and we thank The BrandLaureate for this recognition,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

The APBF is a non-profit organisation founded in 2005 that is dedicated at highlighting the power of brands as a visual, auditory and sensory experience which is vital to the success of any business.

Perodua’s stalwart breadwinner, the Mvyi is about to reach a new milestone. The nameplate will see the one millionth Myvi rolling off the production line very soon. It’s a remarkable feat for any automaker but for Perodua, its a testament to the hard work and dedication of its employees, dealer network and parts distributors.

The first generation Myvi was launched in May 2005 and remained Malaysia’s best-selling car till the end of 2014. Despite this, it continues to be a very popular model in our country and a favourite of those looking for a B-segment city car that’s light on their wallets.

“So far, we have produced nearly one million Myvis since 2005 and this milestone will be reached somewhere this month,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

Besides Malaysia, the Myvi has been sold under the Perodua brand in 7 different countries which include Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Brunei, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Fiji and Nepal. The Myvi is actually based on the Daihatsu Sirion but Perodua makes certain design tweaks of their own to differentiate the Malaysian car from its Japanese counterpart.

Perodua’s biggest export market is Indonesia. It has sold 31,000 Myvi cars under the Sirion brand since 2007. Locally however, the Malaysian automaker has managed to sell 64,700 vehicles in the past four months, which is a 4.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Based on its estimates, Perodua says it should be able to capture 35.4% of the local market share, making it the most popular car brand in the country.

In order to keep the current momentum going, Perodua will focus on delivering its vehicles to customers in a timely manner to further improve customer satisfaction and after sales capabilities. There are currently 184 sales and 182 service centres in the country. So, if you own a Perodua, you can rest easy knowing that you have a legion of service centres that are able to tend to any issues you might be facing.

The launch ceremony was held at the authorized distributor’s sales showroom at Port-Louis, which is Mauritius’ capital and was hosted by the distributor’s Managing Director, Raouf Dusmohamud.

The Viva has been the best selling model in the island nation with 711 vehicles sold between 2008 and 2014. Since the partnership began in the mid 1990s, Perodua has sold the Kancil, Rusa, Kelisa, Kembara, Myvi, Viva, Axia, Alza and Bezza in the island of Mauritius.

“Mauritius is a strategic destination for us as this country is one of the most popular tourist destination spots in the world and having the Perodua Bezza here would give it the global exposure that it needs,” Perodua President & Chief Executive Officer, Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

Versions of the Bezza that are available to order over there include the Bezza 1.0L (Automatic and manual transmission) and the Bezza 1.3L Premium X (automatic and manual transmission). This year is shaping up to be a great one for Malaysia’s second largest local automaker. Perodua has recorded decent sales figures this quarter by registering nearly 50,300 vehicles so far which is an increase of 6.5% compared with last year’s 47,200 units. The company now commands a 35.9% market share with a total of 140,000 vehicle being sold so far this year.

In March alone, Perodua sold 19,500 vehicles compared with 17,300 vehicles it sold last March, which is a 13% increase. The company attributes its sales success this year to the launch of the face-lifted Axia and a number of aggressive sales promotions for various Perodua models.

“On our after sales business, with both service intakes and parts and accessories sales seen growth in the first quarter. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect sustained growth in our after sales business,” Perodua President & CEO Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh said.

The Malaysian automaker’s parts and accessories division has also posted a rise in revenue. It said that revenue rose to a notable 5% in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the same period last year by raking in RM65 million. It’s body and paint business on the other hand, saw a much higher increase in revenue at 17% compared to the same period last year. This has led to the automaker’s CEO acknowledging that the decision to delve into the body repair and paint business 7 years ago, was a savvy business decision on the part of Perodua.

In the first three months of this year, Perodua has produced 49,218 vehicles which is slightly higher than that recorded last year with 48,300 vehicle rolling of the production line. The slight increase was said to be due to the high-demand for the automaker’s B-segment sedan, the Perodua Bezza and the face-lifted Axia.

Things weren’t all rosy for Perodua though, it recorded a decrease in exported vehicles for the first quarter of 2017 with 941 vehicles shipped to six countries compared to 1,600 vehicles in 2016. Despite this, Perodua’s CEO is still confident that the company will hit the 5,000 units export mark in 2017, which was the same target set last year.

“We aim to steadily grow our regional reach as we further improve our operations to become globally competitive. Overall, we are cautiously optimistic of achieving our sales target of 202,000 units for the year. We also foresee that despite the challenges in the automotive industry, there will be modest growth for the industry this year,” said Datuk (Dr) Aminar Rashid Salleh.

Despite the current economic situation, Perodua has defied the odds by posting better and better sales each year. It has launched a number of value added vehicles recently, which have enticed many Malaysian car buyers to flock to Perodua dealerships around the country.
