The Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Festival makes it way to Medini City in Iskandar Puteri, Johor this weekend 19th to 21st January, and brings with it a totally immersing experience with non-stop motor racing action, A-list celebrity activities and impressive prizes including a brand new Toyota Vios Sports Edition that will be presented to a lucky visitor.

Having thrilled crowds in Penang and Kuala Lumpur with total attendance of 50,000 visitors, the Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Racing Festival is expected to attract a sizeable crowd in Medini City on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th January 2018, particularly as the excitement of the Vios Challenge continues to develop with great intensity.

With the championships in mid season and no runaway winner in sight, the duels are beginning to heat up in all three categories where some of the top racing drivers will be competing. Spectators can expect a thrilling weekend of racing on the street circuit that features one of the longest straights of the championship and a hairpin turn, promising lots of overtaking action.

One such race category that fans will definitely be keen to catch will be the Promotional Class where celebrity racers Fattah Amin, Shukri Yahaya, Diana Danielle, Janna Nick, Geraldine Gan, Danny Koo, Venice Min and Shawn Lee will be battling it out for glory. Shukri Yahaya took a popular win in the last event in MAEPS Serdang and he will be out to bring the battle to Shawn once again.

For celebrity watchers, it will be a starry event in Medini as apart from the eight racing celebrities, Media Prima’s Drama Sangat bus tour celebrities including Nazrief Nazri, Intan Najwa, Adiba Yunos, Aishah Azman, Raja Afiq, Ruhainies, Zie Zainal and Aliff Yasraff will be at the event meeting fans and giving away prizes and souvenirs during their meet and greet sessions.

The young at heart will also not be forgotten as superhero Ejen Ali and Comot will be making appearances throughout the weekend.

There will be lots of prizes and souvenirs to be given away throughout the weekend but the biggest prize will be a Toyota Vios Sports Edition that is being offered as the grand prize in the lucky draw.

Fans of Toyota cars will further be treated with a showcase of the latest models including the 2018 Toyota Vios and the show-stealing C-HR that remains one of the biggest attractions everywhere it goes. There will be test drives of most Toyota models as well.

Be sure to catch the stunt performance of Japanese World Champion drifters Masato Kawabata and Drift Samurai, Takahiro Imamura who will be out to thrill, performing their brilliant drift shows in a pair of Toyota 86 drift cars.

In keeping with UMW Toyota Motor’s efforts to promote healthy, safe and wholesome activities, the race track at the Toyota GAZOO Racing (TGR) Racing Festival in Johor will be open for an hour to cyclists who register on Saturday morning, allowing them an opportunity to experience the circuit in a safe and controlled manner.

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has announced that the order-taking of the new Toyota Vios will start effective from this week onward.

UMWT has started the New Year with upgrades to its bestselling model, the Toyota Vios. It will now give customers even better value for money. The 2018 model gets cosmetic changes on the exterior as well as interior, providing a fresh appearance.

Besides design refreshment, new accessories such as Parking Sensor, Shark Fin Antenna, and Illuminated Scuff Plates have been introduced. Vios will be the first model in its segment to have a Parking Sensor and this item will be offered as standard for TRD, GX and G variants.

A new DVD-AVX entertainment system with enhanced features is also available for this Vios and it is offered with a reverse camera as standard for all variants except Vios J (MT) and J (AT).

Existing advanced items such as Panoramic View Monitor and Digital Video Recorder, etc are still offered on top of the new accessories.

Toyota has revealed its third generation humanoid robot that it calls the T-HR3. The project is part of the automaker’s future mobility programme, which has brought to fruition many innovative and bizarre creations. This particular one was designed and developed by Toyota’s Partner Robot Division.

It will help the company explore new technologies for safely managing physical interactions between robots and their surroundings as well a remote movement system that allows for the robot to mimic the movement of its human operator.

Similar in purpose to Honda’s Asimo, the T-HR3 will help Toyota explore how advanced technologies can help to meet people’s unique mobility needs. It is an evolution of previous generation instrument-playing humanoid robots, which were created to study and develop precise joint movements.

“The Partner Robot team members are committed to using the technology in T-HR3 to develop friendly and helpful robots that coexist with humans and assist them in their daily lives.The core technologies developed for this platform will help inform and advance future development of robots,” said Akifumi Tamaoki, general manager, Partner Robot Division.

T-HR3 is controlled from a Master Maneuvering System, which allows a human operator to manipulate its movement through the use of wearable controls that map hand, arm and foot movements. Using the dead-mounted display, the operator is able to see exactly what the T-HR3 sees, making useful movements far more effective.

Toyota’s new toy is made up of motors, reduction gears and torque sensors that are connected to each of its joints. Working in unison, they operate 29 individual body parts, which allow the robot to mimic with precision, the movements of said operator.

In total, the T-HR3 weights 75kg, which is equivalent to a regular size adult male. It’s moving parts comprises of 32 axes and 10 fingers, which allow for easier and more human-like movement. Its creation is a testament to the ingenuity of Toyota, who, since the 1980s has been developing industrial robots to enhance its manufacturing processes.

Toyota will air a touching yet inspiring short promotional film in the US on NBCSN during the Winter Olympic Trials with an Olympic and Paralympic message that delivers hope and breaks new ground for Toyota. It aims to encapsulate the Japanese automaker’s evolution from being an automotive company to a mobility one.

The 1 minute long clip depicts the resilience of the human spirit and its ability to overcome almost insurmountable problems with the help of cutting edge tech. Throughout the video, several of Toyota’s machines that include electric wheel chairs, automated robots, assisted prosthetics and micro cars, can be seen improving the daily lives of those with mobility issues.

This film has been created as part of the company’s eight-year global sponsorship of The Olympic and Paralympic Games. The theme of this particular video is ‘Mobility For All’, and highlights the mobility stories of Olympic and Paralympic athletes and other individuals.

A total of 15 athletes are part of ‘Mobility For All’, including Tatyana McFadden, the world’s leading wheelchair racer, Brad Snyder, American Paralympic swimmer and former captain of the U.S. Naval Academy swim and Rami Anis, a swimmer from Syria, part of the Refugee Olympic Team.

According to the automaker, the latest video will be part of an entire series of short films that will be aired globally throughout The Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2018. Each of them will based on inspirational stories and feature Toyota’s range of mobility products that include concepts and actual production vehicles.

Through them, Toyota wants people to know of its commitment to making the world a better place with the development of better mobility solutions. Like its rival Honda, the company is heavily invested in changing how we perceive personal transportation and revolutionize the concept to allow for a more sustainable future.

Yet another scandal has hit Japan, and this time its from a company called Kobe Steel. Though this company maybe relatively unfamiliar to many, it is a key player in supplying the automotive industry with a whole host of parts that include doors and bonnets.

Based on an article posted by The Guardian, Kobe Steel has admitted that over the course a decade, it has falsified data regarding the strength and durability of its aluminium and copper products that are used in cars, aircraft, space rockets and defense equipment.

This issue affects a whole host of manufacturers that include Boeing, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru, Hitachi and several others. In fact, Hitachi has said that it used Kobe Steel parts in trains that it built for the UK market.

Boeing, the US based aircraft maker, has stated that it is currently inspecting Kobe Steel products that it had used, but for the moment at least, says that there is no evidence to suggest that the safety of the respective parts had been compromised in any way.

This news has many mainstream automakers scrambling to assess the extent of which Kobe Steel products were used in their vehicles. Though certain companies have said that safety may not be an issue despite the fact that Kobe Steel didn’t honour the specifications agreed upon, we won’t know for sure until further investigations are carried out.

The extent of the issue and the sectors that are affected by it are still unknown, but we hope that for the most part at least, that the issue is isolated to the Japanese market. That said, we will let you know more as this scandal begins to unravel in the coming weeks.

Ford Motor Company has contributed $5 million (RM21 million) to the American Center for Mobility (ACM) to support connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technology development. This will designate Ford as a Founder-level sponsor and member of a government-industry team that supports ACM’s efforts.

The investment will help ACM create an automated vehicle proving ground in Southeast Michigan. This is where companies will be able to develop their CAV technologies and work on other areas that include creating the appropriate standards and education programmes.

Located at Willow Run in Ypsilanti Township, the new non-profit 500-acre state-of-the-art testing site will be used for testing, validation, product development and education purposes. This facility’s first phase will be operational at the end of this year, signaling the beginning of major studies into autonomous transportation.

This latest investment brings ACM’s fundraising total to $95 million (RM397 million), which will go a long way in helping it accomplish its goal. This will also allow for better synergy between entities who share the same goal of creating more advanced autonomous systems.

“We couldn’t be more proud to have Ford Motor Company join the ranks as a Founder. When we first announced our plan to develop the American Center for Mobility, it may have seemed a little ambitious to some,” said John Maddox, president and CEO of ACM.

“However, we’re well along in making this a reality as national and global partners continue to support the facility,” he later added.

Ford’s contribution has allowed it to join ACM Founders Toyota Motor North America (TMNA, Toyota Research Institute (TRI) and AT&T in paving a path for the future of mobility.

Toyota North America has announced that it is conducting a safety recall of the 2016 model year Avalon Hybrid and Camry Hybrid vehicles due to a miss assembled front drive shaft issue. Apparently 671 vehicles are affected by this recall but only up to 42 of them are potential equipped with these shoddily built drive shafts.

These front drive shafts may have been miss assembled at the manufacturing plant. And when installed in the aforementioned vehicles, could cause vibration and components in the drive shaft assembly to come apart. This could then cause a loss in propulsion and the inability of the transmission to hold the vehicle stationary when the gear is left in the Park position.

Also, the lose of propulsion at higher speeds could result in an increased risk of a crash. If the parking brake isn’t applied in the affected vehicles, they could roll away, which is also increases the risk of ithem crashing into pedestrians or other cars.

The automaker has said that its dealers will check customer vehicles based on the serial numbers of the drive shafts and replace them at no cost to the customers should they be deemed to be part of the recall. All known owners of the involved vehicles will receive a notification by first class mail starting in early August.

This incident seems to be isolated only to North America and has no bearing to Toyota vehicles sold in other markets. Despite this recall, its good to know that established automakers like Toyota, are putting the safety of their customers before the importance of their quarterly sales figures.

The highly anticipated Marvel movie, Black Panther will feature a Lexus LC as the Protagonist’s ‘sidekick’. The Japanese automaker has teamed up with Marvel for a collaboration that will see the new 2018 Lexus LC be the car of choice for the Black Panther character in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, slated to hit theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, the film follows T’Challa, who, after the events of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War,” goes back home where he takes the place of his father as King of the technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda.

“Marvel continuously captures audiences through charismatic characters and inspiring stories — the ideal fit for Lexus’ mission to craft amazing, engaging experiences,” said Brian Bolain general manager, Lexus marketing. “And the LC’s aggressive styling, high performance and agile handling are a perfect fit for the Black Panther’s quick, cat-like reflexes and superhuman feats. We’re excited to see the duo in action.”

Taking the significance of this vehicle to the next level, Lexus also teamed up with Marvel Custom Solutions to create an original graphic novel by writer Fabian Nicieza and cover illustrations by artists Scott “Rahzzah” Wilson and Szymon Kudranski.

In the comic, the LEXUS LC 500 plays an important role in helping the Black Panther defeat a legendary villain in what is probably going to be an entertaining and well illustrated comic. No word yet on when exactly that this comic will go on sale, but it will probably be after the launch of the movie.

As a means to celebrate the partnership, Lexus and Marvel will host an exclusive Black Panther themed event on Friday, July 21 during Comic-Con after-hours. There will be special performances by DJ Lulo Café and a surprise headliner. It is at that invite-only event that the duo will be unveiling six variant covers for the graphic novel to industry guests and comic enthusiasts.

In case you didn’t know, the Lexus LC is a new sports car from Lexus with a 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 471bhp and 398Nm of torque. It is mated to a 10-speed electronically controlled Direct-Shift transmission with magnesium paddle shifters. Working together, the powertrain allows the car to accomplish the 0-100km/h sprint in a mere 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 270km/h.

Sporting an angular design that is both aggressive yet elegant, the LC 500 is touted as a luxury sports car that offers the best of both worlds.

The Lexus name is synonamous with highly engineered luxury cars that are engineered to perfection. That concept changed in 2011, when the automaker launched its first ever supercar, a major departure from what we were used to seeing from the brand, called the LFA.

Lexus’ parent company, Toyota, picked a small group of exremely experienced engineers and technicians to work on the project. The automaker even built a specialized factory dedicated to the production of the LFA alone. Its truly fascinating how this lightweight Japanese supercar came to be as well as the vast tooling and techniques required for its production.

The car was constructed from Carbon fibder-reinforced polymer (CFRP), which accounts for 65% of the car’s total body composition. And unlike most of its rivals, the LFA had a front mounted engine – and it was a work of art. This 560bhp 4.8-litre V10 had one of the most distinctive exhaust notes in automotive history.

Lexus, as a means to amplify the acoustic experience, enlisted the help of the world’s leading musical instrument manufacturer, Yamaha, to help with perfectly resonating the effects throughout the cabin for a more enjoyable driving experience.

The automaker opted for a V10 instead of a V8 due to the former’s ability to rev much higher and to allow for a more rapid engine response. In fact, Lexus stated that the engine needed just 0.6 seconds to rev from idle to its redline. That is why Lexus opted for a digital tachometer instead of a traditional analogue one, because the latter one, wouldn’t have been able to respond as quickly as required.

That said, we think it was just an excuse for its engineers and designers to build one of the most impressive and futuristic digital instrument display system that wouldn’t have looked out of place it been offered on more recent supercars.

The interior of the LFA, unlike that of a number of its competitors, was fitted with a combination of elegant and expensive materials befitting of a Lexus sedan. It’s switchgear was neatly laid out throughout the cabin, within the reach of the driver safe for the button that operates the rear spoiler. This button is located behind the driver’s seat – a very odd place indeed.

Each of the 500 LFA supercars, were hand built by a team of specialists in Toyota’s Motomatchi plant in Japan. And by the end of 2012, production ground to a halt after the 500th car rolled off the line. Lexus, was proud of what it had accomplished but has since stated that it is in no hurry to plan for a replacement to its state-of-the-art supercar.
