Jaguar’s The Art of Performance Tour will make its debut in Malaysia this month, as part of its tour across the Asia Pacific importer region. First introduced in Europe in 2016, the multi-city tour is a unique driving experience that provides consumers the opportunity to get up close and personal with the new, modern lineup of Jaguar vehicles.

Held from 16 to 18 March at the Setia City Convention Centre, The Art of Performance Tour Malaysia promises an unforgettable and thrilling driving experience. The public can look forward to putting the Jaguar XE, XF and F-PACE through their paces on a dynamic driving circuit, an on-road drive as well as Jaguar’s innovative Smart Cones course.

Unpredictable with a million different potential courses, Smart Cones is designed to measure the drivers’ skill and exploit the cars’ precise and agile handling. Inspired by the agility training game known as ‘Batak’, the system uses wireless technology to produce both a predetermined and a random course of intelligent illuminating cones, notifying drivers of their next target with only a moment’s notice.

As the car is driven, its precise co-ordinates are measured in relation to the cones and sent to a central computer system 100 times per second to track its performance. Every driver gets a score report that takes into account the model of the car used and driving conditions.

In addition to the driving experience, participants will also be among the first in Malaysia to preview and test drive the F-PACE 2.0L model, which will be launched in Malaysia this April. The F-PACE’s new 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium powertrain features a single twin-scroll turbo that produces 250PS and 365Nm of torque from only 1,200rpm. The F-PACE has also been designed and engineered for the most stringent global crash test requirements while reducing vehicle weight.

The 2017 Jaguar F-PACE has been named the winner of the 2017 World Car of the Year and won the World Car Design of the Year Award at the New York International Auto Show. In Malaysia, the F-PACE was a winner in the SUV and Crossover category (RM500,001 – RM700,000) at the 2017 Malaysian Car of The Year Awards, which was organised under the auspices of the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI).

To participate in the Art of Performance Tour Malaysia, members of the public must register at http://www.jaguar.com.my/promotions-events/the-art-of-performance-tour. Existing Jaguar-Land Rover customers are also invited to the event.

The Nürburgring lap times seem to be the yardstick to which automotive greatness is measured. Automakers’ bring their latest and greatest creations to what’s regarded as one of the most challenging tracks on earth, just to prove how quick they are. And breaking the lap record, allows you the proper bragging rights.

In the case of Jaguar, its business as usual. This time, the British automaker placed its hardcore track focused XE, named the XE SV Project 8, to lap the Ring in the shortest time possible. This nearly 600bhp car completed the 21km circuit in 7 minutes and 21.23 seconds making it the fastest four-door vehicle to get around the track.

John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director, said, “SVO exists to push the boundaries of performance, luxury and all-terrain capability. The hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 takes that principle to the limit, extracting supercar-beating performance from Jaguar’s most compact four-door sedan.”

“The Nürburgring Nordschleife record underlines our commitment to deliver the most extreme Jaguar ever to Project 8 clients, who will soon experience this sensational sedan for themselves,” he added.

It was nearly 11 seconds quicker than the previous record holder, and faster still, than some sports and supercars. Despite it looking very similar to the standard XE, Jaguar is adamant that 75% of Project 8’s mechanicals are new and that only the roof and front doors have been carried over.

The company’s SVO design and engineering team have worked their magic by turning a regular executive sedan into a fire breathing monster. Despite what many might say, making a sedan as fast as a sports car is no easy feat, it require re-engineering and extensive mechanical changes.

Unlike the base XE, this particular car gets a massive rear wing and other aerodynamic upgrades that set it apart from the rest of the Jaguar stable. It is powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that enables the car to sprint from 0-100km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 322km/h.

This won’t be the end of the story though, because Jag’s achievement won’t sit well with its competitors. They are probably already trying to figure out how to best the British automaker in the shortest amount of time possible.

Jaguar’s XF Sportbrake has enabled former British Olympic Skier Graham Bell to set a new Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest Towed Speed on Skies’. The task was a daunting one because Bell would have to battle the -28 degrees Celsius temperature at high speed at Jaguar Land Rover’s Revi Test Centre in the Arctic Circle.

Attempting this wasn’t an easy feat considering the relative dangers involved with high speed skiing. But the task was made easier thanks to the XF Sportbrake’s Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR) and All Surface Progress Control.

These systems oversee the power delivery of the car’s all-wheel-drive system and ensure that the XF remains planted and well within the control of the driver. Maintaining stability at high-speeds is something that is extremely important in a situation such as this.

As a result, not only did Bell break the previous record of just under 113 km/h, but managed did so by a huge margin. He was able to clock a time of 188 km/h which is about 76 km/h faster than the previous record. This is a testament to the capabilities of Jaguar’s AWD system, which kept the former Olympic skier out of harms way.

Speaking of the feat, Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK MD, said, “The XF Sportbrake’s superb traction, handling and high speed stability made it the perfect choice for this speed record attempt.”

“We’re extremely proud to have supported Graham in this incredible world-beating achievement – it’s this kind of trail-blazing activity that really tests our cars to their limits,” he later added.

This adds to the list achievements of the Jaguar XF family, which includes being ranked the “Large and Luxury Car” in the JD Power Survey. The latest crop of Jaguars are leaps and bounds better than their predecessors and evidently, many are taking notice of topic.

Jaguar has picked an unconventional way to prove how capacious its XJ’s cabin can be through the use of drones. The automaker staged a remote-controlled drone race called ‘Game of Drones’ to demonstrate how much room its flagship long-wheelbase saloon has to offer.

As part of the race, these high-speed mini aircraft, that were piloted by professional drone racers, flew through three cars on a course that was marked out with 13 gates that were the same shape as an XJL rear door.
Considered a marketing ploy, the drones that were travelling at close to 100km/h had to navigate their way through the door-shaped gates lit in Phosphor Blue and Red to highlight two of the XJ’s interior lighting options.

Speaking of this unique drone race, Brett Collis, a champion drone pilot, said, “I’ve been racing drones in competition for years, but this is a first for me. The course was a great test, but the fact we were able to go at such speeds proves how much space the doors of the Jaguar XJL gave us.”

“Despite having to fly through the cabin we were still pushing the drones to their top speeds,” He later added. These ‘to close for comfort’ drone maneuvers were executed to demonstrate the difference that it makes to have five extra inches of legroom with the long-wheelbase car, that that offered with the base car.

Jaguar’s XJ is the largest four door saloon that the company makes and it boasts an ‘exquisite’ interior that is bestowed with the latest technology. It also features airline style reclining seats with massage function, increased headroom, fold-out tables and specially tuned rear suspension to enhance ride comfort.

The car is also equipped with full LED headlights, all-wheel drive and All Surface Progress Control (ASPC), as well as the latest Touch Pro infotainment system. It’s basically Britain’s ultra luxury answer to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series.

Currently, the XJL and its more powerful sibling, the XJR575 are built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich plant alongside the XE, XF and F-TYPE. In recent years, the model has helped bolster the company’s yearly sales.

Jaguar is taking a bold step in electric racing by supporting a feeder series to Formula E called I-PACE eTrophy series. It’s a single make series which, beginning in 2018, will see 20 Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY racers fill the grid for the 10-race season.

Based on Jaguar’s first all-electric car, the I-PACE, these racers will be custom built by the automaker’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team in Warwickshire, UK. Based on what we can see, they will probably build upon the current design of the I-PACE.

Aerodynamic upgrades including lightening the chassis and and the addition of spoilers will be part of the upgrades. There will also be an FIA certified roll cage, safety harnesses as well as other components. This zero emission Motorsport series is the first of its kind outside Formula E.

These cars will race around the same circuits as the Formula E ones and their events will be held on the same race weekends as that of the main race series for the entire calendar year. This new all-electric series will also help to shine a spotlight on the talent of the up and coming racing drivers.

Speaking of the new series, Gerd Mäuser, Chairman, Jaguar Racing, said: “Jaguar returned to racing in 2016 with the mission ‘Race to Innovate’. With the launch of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY we have strengthened our commitment to battery electric vehicles, international motorsport and Formula E. As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world’s first production battery electric vehicle championship.”

He later added, “We’ve always said we want to prove our electrification technologies on the track – this is the proof. I am looking forward to seeing a full grid of Jaguar I-PACE racecars in late 2018, soon after the first Jaguar I-PACE hits the road in Europe. Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers.”

The British based automaker has participated in Formula E since last year, making it the first premium vehicle manufacturer to enter the racing series. And now, its commitment to this single make series leads us to believe that Jaguar is heavily invested in electric vehicles as being the future of personal and commercial mobility.

Jag’s latest moves are a nod to the British Government’s rather heavy-handed approach of banning petrol and diesel cars from city streets by 2040. Though forward thinking, it will take awhile before current Motorsports fans can be lured away from the visceral excitement that surround the current racing series.

Jaguar Land Rover has released information on some pretty interesting tech that it has been working on. It’s touted as an ‘intelligent and connected’ steering wheel that aims to revolutionize the future of mobility.

The device, fittingly, resembles a futuristic square-shaped steering wheel that rests on a circular stand. Similar in function to Amazon’s Echo and Google Home voice assistants, this device is home to JLR’s voice-activated AI assistant called Sayer.

According to the automaker, users will be able interact with it through voice commands, enabling Sayer to carry out hundreds of different tasks. For instance, Sayer could signal your membership of JLR’s on-demand service club.

This club allows for either sole vehicle ownership or the option of sharing your car with others in the community. Putting this into perspective, once autonomous vehicles are legalized in your country, Sayer will act as your transportation liaison officer.

If you don’t own a vehicle, Sayer can call upon the vehicle of your choosing and schedule it to show up at your doorstep at the stipulated pick-up time. This summarizes JLR’s vision of future mobility. A steering wheel could be the only part of a car that you might ever own.

Here’s a scenario that the automaker thinks will help play out Sayer’s true value:

“Need to be at a meeting two hours away from home by 8am tomorrow? Simply ask Sayer from the comfort of your living room and it will work out when you get up, when a car needs to autonomously arrive at your door and even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy driving yourself.”

Considered a well-sculptured art piece, Jaguar Land Rover’s intelligent steering wheel of the future, is designed to blend in with the rest of your future smart home’s decor.

And the intelligent assistant that resides in it was named after Malcom Sayer, one of the automaker’s most prominent designers who worked with the British marque from 1951 to 1970.

This interesting piece of tech will be showcased at the inaugural Tech Fest at Central St Martins art, design and technology college in London, UK. It’s an event that is open to the general public from 8th to 10th September to witness innovative tech creations.

Rockstars are well known for two things, over-the-top parties and having an extensive collection of valuable cars. The latter is true today as a number of exotics, belonging to the late J. Geils of the band and his namesake.

The collection of cars and motorcycles will be put up for auction at the upcoming Mecum’s Daytime Auction in Monterey, which we have covered in a previous article. These vehicles will go onto the auction block on 19th August without reserve, mind you, but should still fetch a respectable amount of money.

A number of noteworthy vehicles in J. Geils’ collection include a blue and grey 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE 2, 1967 Lancia Flaminia 2.8 3C and a 1967 Fiat Dino Spyder. As for his motorcycle collection, the two-wheelers that stand out the most are the 1983 Benelli 900 SEI, a 1976 MV Agusta 125 SS and a 1970 Ducati 350 Desmo.

Even if you aren’t a fan of this rocker, there’s no denying that he had an exquisite taste when it came to cherry-picking his vehicles. Besides this, most of them were probably well looked after by the late rockstar or his garage’s custodian and technicians.

This is especially true with his 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE. It still has its original 3.0-litre V12 engine and 5-speed gearbox. Though this isn’t surprising considering its value, but vehicles from that era would usually have had some repair work or replacement parts swapped onto them at some point in time.

Mecum’s Daytime Auction will be taking place from August 16th to the 19th and will see 600 vehicles rolling on and off the showroom floor within that timeframe. There are several big name cars like the Ferari LaFerrari, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita and 1958 Lister-Jaguar that will be part of the auction event.

So, stay tuned and we will let you know the outcome of this auction and whether any records were broken. High profile events such as these are bound to attract those from the upper echelon of society with deep pockets.

A team of 13 skilled restorers from Classic Motor Cars (CMC) in the UK, have spent the last two years working on a high-profile project. Its the restoration of a Pininfarina bodied XK120 SE, which is the only one of its kind.

The car was unveiled at the 1955 Geneva Motor Show and was delivered to Max Hoffman. Hoffman was an Austrian-born, New York-based importer of luxury European automobiles into the United States during the 1950s.

An avid fan of everything automotive, it has been said that he has inspired the production of special vehicles from their respective manufacturers. They were ‘refined’ versions of the ones you could buy off the showroom floors. This earned him a spot in the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2003.

The XK 120 is a special car in its own right, but one that has had Pininfarina involvement is considered far more desirable. CMC purchased the car from A German owner and brought it to the USA in 1978. The owner purchased the vehicle with the intention of restoring it, however that never happened.

CMC has decided to continue where he left off, and its employees have spent thousands of hours carrying out a full nut and bolt restoration. The car will be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours on August 20th, which will be the first time anyone outside CMC will be able to see it after its full restoration.

“We always said that we would unveil the car for the first time at Pebble Beach and that is exactly what we are going to do,” said Peter Neumark, Chairman of the Employee Ownership Trust.

He later added, “I will have the privilege of taking the cover off the car at the world famous Concours d’Elegance in California and I think that car collectors and aficionados from around the world are going to be astounded by what they see.”

Images of the complete car will only be revealed after the aforementioned date. As soon as they are out, we will try to get them up on the site.

Jaguar’s I-Pace Concept has been named Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2017 at the 16th North American Concept Vehicle Awards. Apart from that, it also bagged the award in the Production Preview Concept of the Year category.

Speaking of the accolade, Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design, said, “Our challenge was to design an electric vehicle that’s distinctively and unmistakably a Jaguar – and one which demonstrates that an electric vehicle can be visually dramatic as well as practical.”

He then added, “I think that the Jaguar I-Pace Concept has done exactly that, and is clearly at the forefront of the trend for more beautiful, more desirable electric vehicles. We’re very proud of it, and we’re delighted that the North American jurors have recognized us for succeeding in our mission.”

The award ceremony was held at the Concours d’Elegance of America, an upscale automotive event that plays host to a gathering of the elite as well as car shows and competitions. But the point of the North American Concept Vehicle Awards, is to give recognition to vehicles that will most likely shape the future of the automobile industry.

More than a dozen jurors were responsible for picking out the awards’ winners. They were involved in a selection process that included a total of 24 vehicles, each introduced to North America during this year’s motor shows in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto and New York.

See, the I-Pace concept is a precursor of the soon to be launched I-Pace road vehicle. It was meant to ready us for the road going all-electric version that is said to blend suave looks with with respectable performance and practicality.

It is slated for release sometime during the second half of 2018, which isn’t that far away. And unlike automakers like GM or Nissan, EV territory is considered uncharted waters for Jaguar. As such, there is a lot at stake with the I-Pace, because its success will determine how well Jaguar EVs of the future will be perceived by the general public.

Jaguar Land Rover has racked up another accolade and this time, its for the highly sought after F-PACE. It was awarded World Car of the Year and World Design Car of the Year 2017 by a panel of jurors. The mild off-roader has been tasked with leading Jaguar’s foray into uncharted waters for the UK based automaker, which is the SUV market.

Prior to the introduction of the F-PACE, Jaguar, since its inception, has never produced an SUV before. And as such, getting it right on your first attempt, is a remarkable feat that deserves praise. Like the rest of the current line-up the SUV shares the same design language utilised by the XF and XE cars. The prominent honeycomb grille occupies most of the front fascia and are complemented by the equally wide projector headlamps.

Overall, the proportions of the exterior have been well thought out and designed with respectable attention to detail. As a result, its no surprise that Jag walked home with both awards. And to commemorate the win, the UK representatives of the panel of jurors visited Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant, the location where the F-PACE is being produced.

Steve Fowler, World Car of the Year Juror and Editor in Chief at Auto Express said, “It’s been wonderful to present these awards to the Solihull workforce. The Jaguar F-PACE looks great, looks sporty and it looks like a Jaguar should. It’s built brilliantly.”

Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr. Ralf Speth and Solihull Operations Director Nigel Blenkinsop were handed the awards by World Car of the Year. Later, Blenkinsop paid tribute to the Solihull workforce who were responsible for the manufacture of the F-PACE as well as contributing to it being the fastest selling Jaguar of all time.

The F-PACE will face some serious competition as it goes up against more established models from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. However, based on past experiences, Jaguar has managed to carve out a section of the market due to its unique styling, sporty attributes and general appeal of the brand. We shall have to wait and see if it’s looks are able to win over many potential buyers and provide the brand with better sales numbers.
