In the post COVID-19 world (we’re not there yet), close contact is going to be avoided or discouraged to minimise spread of coronavirus infection. Many industries will have to change the way they do things whether within their organisations and for those which deal with the outside world, interaction with customers and clients.

The auto industry, being one of those that has much interaction with customers, is undergoing change with processes that promote social distancing and contactless transactions. Greater attention is being paid to hygiene and the health of staff.

For carmakers like Lamborghini, which has long maintained a personal touch with its customers, there is also a need to review the interactive activities. In particular, the Ad Personam customisation program now has to take into consideration customers who may not wish to travel (or cannot) to the specialist department in Italy.

For such customers, there is now a new Ad Personam virtual studio offering consultation sessions to customers worldwide who want their new Lamborghini to be personalized. From this month, these customers can pre-book an initial consultation of around 2 hours via their dealership, either joining their sales specialist at the showroom or from another location, for their dedicated session with Lamborghini’s specialists.

They will be able to view extensive Ad Personam options on display during the video call to the Ad Personam studio. With the model present, design proposals and configuration suggestions from the Ad Personam team can be discussed using smartphones for walkarounds and to see close-up details. The virtual consultation is followed up with full proposals sent to the client, including renderings and even material samples.

“Lamborghini is always thinking dynamically about the best solutions to challenges, and our new virtual Ad Personam studio consultations have been carefully devised to support clients who, in times where we are all cautious about international travel, still want the special, one-to-one experience of creating an entirely personalized car,” said Giovanni Perosino, Chief Commercial Officer of Automobili Lamborghini.

“We still look forward to welcoming clients to Sant’ Agata Bolognese in the future but we expect more than 150 Ad Personam consultations to take place virtually within this year, and continuing as an option for the future. With the support of our dealers worldwide, who also have significant personalization experience and of course, samples and materials in their own dealerships, we have the exciting opportunity in an increasingly digital age to create one-off Lamborghini models virtually,” he explained.

2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Xago edition

To celebrate the new Ad Personam facility, Lamborghini announces the Aventador SVJ Xago special edition. Only 10 units are available to those customers specifying their Aventador SVJ virtually. Inspired by the hexagon cloud shapes at the North Pole on the planet Saturn and the strength of the hexagon in nature, the Xago celebrates the iconic ‘hexagonita’ theme in Lamborghini design.

The exterior of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Xago edition features a specially-created fading hexagonal silver effect, with a unique Ad Personam contrast colour livery for each car and gloss black Nireo Ad Personam rims.

The interior features an exclusive seat pattern with hexagonita theme, and special contrast colour matching the exterior. Each of the Aventador SVJ Xago models will be identified by a numbered plate.

Lamborghini Ad Personam

Lamborghini started its Ad Personam program in 2013 and opened its Ad Personam studio in 2016. Today, more than 50% of its cars are given additional attention by Ad Personam specialists after leaving the factory. This percentage has tripled over the last 3 years, with customers in the USA, Asia and UK being the largest number using the personalisation service.

Ten months after Lamborghini launched the Sian as its first production hybrid super sportscar, an open-top variant has been unveiled. Only 19 units will be produced – and all are already sold.

The Sian Roadster, as a true roadster, adds a new purity with the open-air cabin. The aerial view of the car is reminiscent of the iconic periscopio line inspired by the first Countach, running diagonally from the cockpit to the rear and culminating in the aerodynamic airstreamers behind driver and passenger.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

The long sculptured contours and characteristic aero wings give the Sian Roadster an unmistakably powerful profile. The car’s very low front, with integrated carbonfibre splitter, houses the iconic Lamborghini Y-shape headlights.

The extreme and strong rear of the car incorporates Lamborghini’s evocative hexagon design, including 6 hexagonal taillights inspired by the Countach. The rear wing is integrated within the profile and extends out only during the driving to enhance the performance.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

To optimize aerodynamic efficiency, airflow is directed through the front splitters and through the front bonnet, through the side air intakes and outlets and over the rear spoiler, with no loss of aerodynamic efficiency from the roadster’s roofless design.

Active cooling vanes on the rear use unique materials-science technology patented by Lamborghini. The operation of the vanes is triggered by the reaction of smart-material elements to the temperature generated by the exhaust system, causing them to rotate and providing an elegant and lightweight cooling solution.

The Sian Roadster makes its debut in Blu Uranus, especially selected by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, which works together with the Ad Personam department to entirely personalize the colour and finish of each client’s Roadster.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

The Oro Electrum wheels have a colour chosen by Lamborghini to signify electrification. The complementary interior is an elegant combination of white with Blu Glauco detailing and aluminium elements in Oro Electrum, New-design air vents produced via 3D printing allows customization with a client’s initials.

The Sian Roadster is powered by the same hybrid system as the coupe which provides the highest power possible via the lightest solution. It combines the V12 engine with a 48-volt e-motor, delivering 34 hp, which is incorporated into the gearbox to provide immediate response and improved performance. The e-motor also supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking with electric power.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

With the advanced technology, the engine, which incorporates titanium intake valves, has been uprated to 785 bhp. With an additional 34 bhp from the hybrid system, the maximum output is 819 bhp, giving the Sian Roadster a claimed capability of going over 350 km/h. From standstill, it is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.9 seconds.

The powertrain has Lamborghini’s innovative supercapacitor application – a world-first technology storing 10 times the power of a lithium-ion battery. Located in the bulkhead between cockpit and engine, it ensures perfect weight distribution.

Three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power, the electric system with the supercapacitor and e-motor weighs only 34 kgs. It thus delivers a remarkable weight-to-power ratio of 1.0 kg/hp. Symmetric power flow ensures the same efficiency in both charging and discharging cycles, the most lightweight and efficient hybrid solution.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

There’s also a highly sophisticated regenerative braking system, especially developed by the carmaker. The symmetric behaviour of the supercapacitor, contrary to normal Li-Ion batteries, can be charged and discharged with the same power. It fully charges the energy storage system every time the vehicle is being braked.

The energy stored is an instantly-available power boost, allowing the driver to draw immediately on increased torque when accelerating away (up to 130 km/h) when the e-motor automatically disconnects. This improves the elasticity maneuvers and makes it more than 10% faster than a car without this system.

2020 Lamborghini Sian Roadster

“The Sian Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini,” said Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman & CEO. “It is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies. The Sian’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sportscars, and the open-top Sian Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions.”

110 years ago, if you wanted to buy the popular Ford Model T, you had a choice of just one colour – black. Henry Ford decided to offer only one colour, largely because he wanted to maximize economies of scale by buying the biggest volume of paint so costs would be lower. Black was also quick-drying which appealed to him because he wanted to accelerate production.

Today, however, apart from limited edition models, a single colour would not go down well with customers who like freedom to choose. Still, there is a limit to colour choices for mass-produced models because the paint shop can only cater to a certain number of colours at one time. And of course, volume is again a consideration but definitely, there’s more than one colour to choose from!

2020 Lamborghini Urus

More exclusive colour choices
Because Lamborghini sells cars which are expensive and exclusive, it is willing to meet almost any demand by customers when it comes to colours. Its dedicated paint shop which opened in 2019 incorporates benchmarking Artificial Intelligence applications alongside combined craftsmanship and technologies, extending the potential and volume for exclusive color choices.

As well as the new pearl colours in yellow, orange and green, reflecting the customer demand for sporty and vibrant exteriors, it has now come out with a new design edition, Pearl Capsule, for ‘new adventures in colour’ for the Urus Super SUV.

2020 Lamborghini Urus

First exclusive customization option
This first exclusive customization option for the Urus is created by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile design department. The assertive two-tone exterior finish embraces Lamborghini’s traditional high-gloss 4-layer pearl colours of Giallo Inti, Arancio Borealis and Verde Mantis in combination with high-gloss black roof, rear diffuser, spoiler lip and other details. The sporty matt grey tailpipes are complemented by 23-inch high-gloss black rims with body colour accent.

2020 Lamborghini Urus

The interior trim is based on a unique 2-tone color combination, featuring the hexagon-shaped upholstery stitching Q-Citura with logo embroidery on the seat, plus carbonfibre and black anodized aluminium details. Available exclusively on the Pearl Capsule, the optional fully-electric seat features airy perforated Alcantara for exceptional comfort.

The Urus Pearl Capsule for the Urus offers an extended range of colors and features following the first full year of Urus production in 2019. With more than 8,300 SUVs delivered worldwide since its launch, the most popular colour options have been elegant hues of greys, closely followed by Lamborghini’s trademark yellow.

Lamborghini Urus

Enhancements for coming model year
Alongside enhanced standard and optional equipment, including the most comprehensive ADAS equipment in its segment, Urus owners will now be able to match their personality even more. They can choose from an updated standard colour palette and a continuously-expanding range of special colours, as well as further interior customization offered by Lamborghini Ad Personam.

“The Lamborghini Urus has attracted an extremely diverse clientele since its launch, with exceptionally varied lifestyles,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chairman & CEO, Stefano Domenicali. “Nearly 80% of those customers – of whom around 10% are women – are new to the Lamborghini brand, enjoying the versatility of their Urus whether for business, family outings or of course, leisure time. The colours preferred by owners has varied enormously, with a strong mix of more understated choices as well as traditional sporty Lamborghini colors.

“The next step for the Urus, appealing to a broad client base looking to continue their adventures everywhere from the city to the sand dunes, from the countryside to ski resorts, is to extend our Super SUV’s features and customizability. Lamborghini’s Ad Personam program and Lamborghini colors are an integral aspect of our brand. The new options allow Urus owners to choose exteriors and interiors reflecting their personality, lifestyle, and their chosen adventures in the Urus,” he explained.

2020 Lamborghini Urus

Besides more colours choices, the coming model year of the Urus will offer the richest level of standard equipment in terms of technology, safety and ADAS. Notable product improvements include an exclusive new key design and updated optional Parking Assistance Package, including state-of-the-art Intelligent Park Assist. This system allows the car to park itself by managing steering, throttle and brake for automatic parallel and perpendicular parking, at just the push of a button. Optional equipment includes a new premium Sensonum sound system, featuring a 730W amplifier and 17 speakers.

Everything is going digital these days and collecting stamps seems to be following the trend. Lamborghini, together with Bitstamps, is launching a digital stamp via an App designed to create and collect digital stamps. Each stamp is a ‘single’ digital object: its history and uniqueness are guaranteed by Blockchain technology. The stamp can be purchased, collected, or resold exactly like a paper stamp.

First Lamborghini digital stamp
The first collaboration is dedicated to the Huracan EVO RWD Spyder, a new model Lamborghini unveiled at the beginning of this month, following the company’s reopening after the COVID-19 shutdown. The Huracan EVO RWD Spyder stamp is available from today by downloading the Bitstamps App, and will be issued in a limited and numbered edition of 20,000 pieces.

The stamp is part of a themed series dedicated to the history of the Italian sportscar maker. Over 20 of its most iconic cars will form the Automobili Lamborghini Collection.

Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD Spyder
The recently-launched Huracan EVO RWD Spyder is the first model to be used for the digital stamp collection.

Within their collection album, Lamborghini fans will be able to admire their stamps, check the progress of their collection and the stamps not yet acquired, decide whether to give them as a gift by sending them with an e-card, or resell them on the Marketplace that will open in the next few months.

About Bitstamps
Working for a long time in the philatelic field, it was not difficult for Nicola Archilli, the CEO of Bitstamps, to notice how the trade in stamps evolved from negotiations in niches to specialized stores, to auction houses and subsequently to web sales. Specialized platforms now have millions of specimens on offer and the market is very dynamic, even if not referred to the rarest and most expensive specimens.

In the digital collectibles sector, there are innumerable types of products offered ranging from clothes for virtual dolls to plots of land where you can build digital cities, but what made him think a lot and land with confidence on the digital stamp was the choice of the largest producer American baseball players card.

Bitstamps
The first stamp in the world was issued in England in 1840 and known as the ‘Penny Black’. After exactly 180 years, Bitstamps commemorated the philately icon with the first collectible stamp in the world exclusively digital and certified with Blockchain technology.

In April 2012, the company came out with a new app through which it is possible to buy the digital cards of baseball players. This diversification of the product has led the company, which still continues to print paper cards, to double its turnover by dividing it more or less equally in the two sectors. The new product was a success without going to the detriment of the paper ‘competitor’ and allowed a strong expansion

The Bitstamps App can be downloaded at Google Play and Apple App stores.

With AR, simply tapping ‘See in AR’ brings views of the new open-top rear-wheel drive model to people’s driveways, gardens or even sitting rooms. The virtual experience enables the viewer to rotate and expand the size of the vehicle, up to a 1:1 scale, allowing close looks at both its exterior and interior details. Images of what is viewed can also be captured with a high level of photorealism.

“At a time of major business challenges, Lamborghini is innovating once again and exploring new methods of communication. New technologies have accelerated fast during this time of global emergency, and Lamborghini is pioneering exciting new possibilities. Lamborghini can now be in everyone’s home, thanks to Apple’s AR technology, which is available on hundreds of millions of AR-enabled devices around the world,” said Stefano Domenicali, Chairman & CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

0 – 100 in 3.5 seconds
The new Huracan EVO variant provides drivers with open-air driving pleasures, lightweight engineering, rear-wheel drive and a specially tuned Performance Traction Control System (P-TCS). 2020 Huracan EVO RWD Spyder

The aluminium and thermoplastic resin body sits on a lightweight hybrid chassis of aluminium and carbonfibre, with a dry weight of 1,509 kgs and a weight-to-power ratio of 2.47 kg/bhp. Front/rear weight distribution of 40:60, with double wishbone suspension and overlapped quadrilaterals and passive shock absorbers provide optimized driver feedback.

Ventilated and cross-drilled steel brakes are fitted to 19-inch rims with specially-developed Pirelli P Zero tyres. Customers can also order their car with optional 20-inch rims and carbon ceramic brakes.

2020 LAMBORGHINI Huracan EVO RWD Spyder

Similar aerodynamic qualities as coupe
Its design optimizes the integration and function of the extremely light soft top. Refined in the wind tunnel, the exterior lines ensure drag reduction and downforce matches that of the coupe without requiring additional aerodynamic features.

The specially tuned P-TCS traction control system is designed to consistently deliver torque and assuring traction in all conditions, even as the Spyder is ‘realigning’ after sharp cornering or drifting. Electronic intrusion, disliked by purist drivers, is minimized as the Huracan is specially engineered as an instinctive driver’s car with unfiltered physical feedback and maximum engagement.

COVID-19

PISTON.MY

If you follow news (and who does not?) about the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic that has swept the planet, you will read about the urgent need by hospitals in every country for medical equipment. The number of cases has been growing very, very fast – in some countries, it doubles every 3 days. Thousands of patients now require intensive care as their condition has become worse. No country was prepared for a crisis of such a scale and so the equipment and facilities were not more than what was thought to be sufficient for the population.

Ventilators are one of the items that are crucial as the patients suffering from COVID-19 have breathing difficulties. The virus attacks their lungs and they need assisted air intake otherwise they will not have enough air for their body. Ventilators can provide such assistance and companies around the world with the capability have been racing to develop and then make ventilators.

SEAT uses its engineering expertise
SEAT, the Spanish carmaker, is one of the companies that has developed automated ventilators with its expertise. Its engineers developed a total of 13 different prototypes were tested before the final design was agreed upon. The team is now testing the ventilators in collaboration with the local healthcare authority to get approval for mass production.

SEAT ventilators

SEAT ventilators
Parts from SEAT cars have been adapted for use in the ventilators.

The ventilators – made up of 80 electronic and mechanical components – utilize adapted windscreen wiper motors, gearbox shafts and printed gears. Each ventilator will undergo a thorough quality control check with ultraviolet light sterilization before being shipped out.

The facility where the ventilators will be made produces the new Leon model. 150 employees from different areas will work on modified workstations. “Taking an assembly line that manufactures subframes, a car part, and adapting it to make ventilators has been a lengthy, difficult job involving many areas of the company, and we managed to do it in the record time of one week,” said Sergio Arreciado, a member of SEAT’s Process Engineering team.
